Likova is situated north on the border with Kosovo. It is believed that the village was inhabited early because of its easy access to water and its fertile earth. Earliest signs of civilization are thought to be from the Ilyrian era as several Illyrian artifacts have been found in and around the village. In 1962 a preserved mummy was found during a well opening in a private property. The mummy contained rings, a crown and a sword. The mummy was an elderly male, most likely with royal or noble status.

The finding mentioned above was never documented as the current time communist Yugoslav authorities had the body removed and never to be seen again. The village has also been engaged and occupied by the Serbian knight Dusan. (See Car Dusan) in the early 1300s. And had a small Serbian population until the late 80s.

Its believed that the name of the village comes from the Christian Albanian family name of Lika.

Lipkovo was a central strategic village during the 2001 armed conflict between the Albanian National Liberation Army and the FYROM Army. It has today a water dam which supplies water and electricity to the Kumanovo region.

Its highest peak is the Hill of Ahmet at 832 meters. It is believed that the hill is an inactive volcano, however there have never been any geological examinations of this.

The village also was a safe haven for the Nazis during WW2. The village had a vast recruitment to the Waffen 21st Scanderbeg Division which fought for liberation from the Slavs.

The area and the forests around Lipkovo set good conditions for wildlife and there have been encounters with bears, wolves, lynx and jackals. Animals of pray include hare, roe dear and other small mammals.
