The Social Icons

The Social Icons are an independent Canadian rock band from Ottawa, Ontario. Formerly Nick Danger and the Danger City Rebels, the band is made up of Nickolai Dangeroso on vocals and guitar, Terry O'Reilly on bass and Seve "Chunkk" Neilson on drums.

History

Nick Danger and the Danger City Rebels decided to re-brand themselves The Social Icons in 2009. After the departure of original bassist "Popsicle" Pete Connell in 2006, they recruited ex-Tremolo bassist Terry O'Reilly. Although they played a few more gigs as Nick Danger, they agreed that a name change was necessary. The sonic direction of their music had evolved. Dangeroso's original country/rockabilly/retro-rock sound had broadened to include other influences, including O'Reilly's 90's grunge-rock inspired bass stylings and Nielson's funk-infused drum beats.

In January of 2010, they released a music video for "Pop is Falling Apart", a song appearing on their initial Social Icons Ep, released on Vollwert Records in Germany. The 4-track recording was released on a limited edition run of mini discs called "Edition 59", where only 59 copies are made.

Both "Pop is Falling Apart" and follow-up single "Lou Reed" proved popular on CKCU FM, Ottawa's local Carleton University radio station. In March 2010, the song "Stay" was released as the debut single from their new disc.

On April 10, 2010, TSI released their first Lp, titled "I'm there...you're here". The CD release party was held that same day at Capital City Music Hall and was promoted on CKCU.
