A mysterious woman from the future named Bianca arrives to take Chris' powers and bring him back forcefully to the future. Leo discovers that Bianca is actually a Phoenix – part of an elite assassin family of witches. In a series of flash-forwards, it is revealed that Chris and Bianca are engaged in the future, and together conspired to send Chris back in time to save baby Wyatt from turning evil. Unable to stop Chris from returning to the future with Bianca, Piper, Phoebe and Paige provide him with a spell, which will give him back his powers and return him to the present. Meanwhile, Piper tells Phoebe and Paige that they can't put their lives on hold for the craft and convinces Paige to move in with Richard, and Phoebe to join Jason in Hong Kong. With the Charmed Ones scattered, the Power of Three is in danger.

Phoenix Families

Descendants from the Witch Trials with vengeance in their hearts, the Phoenix are a family of assassin witches who are elite, very powerful and who are born with a distinctive birthmark of the Phoenix, symbolizing their rise from Salem's ashes. They have no allegiance other than to seek their vengeance and they will seek out and kill any bounty they're hired to bring down. They have the power to shimmer, cast energy balls, conjure items (including athames), reform, and steal other witches' powers

• The episode title is based on the common phrase criss-crossed, meaning mixed-up or jumbled up.
• The Charmed Ones and Leo discover that Chris is part witch and part whitelighter in this episode.
• The book Bianca was looking for, the Grimoire, was previously seen in the fourth season's episode We're Off to See the Wizard, though with a completely different appearance, and was (supossedly) only managed by high level demons. After the events of that previous episode, the book's whereabouts or its existence was never mentioned again, until this episode. Although some theories assume that the book shown in this episode was simply a grimoire (specifically that belonging to the Phoenixes), rather than "the Grimoire" mentioned earlier in the series.
• In another episode the Book of Shadows was shown to have a page referencing Arabic legends. On that page was this entry regarding the traditional Phoenix: A Phoenix is a bird which incinerates at the end of its lifespan, then regenerates itself from the ashes. In Egyptian folklore the Phoenix resembles the sun, dying each night to be reborn in the morning.
• This episode reveals Chris's purpose for coming to the past: to stop Wyatt from becoming evil in the future (although Leo and the sisters won't discover this until 'Prince Charmed', two episodes later).
• Several of the Charmed Ones' costumes from previous episodes are shown in this episodes as relics from the past once they are killed in the future. The dress worn by Paige's past life, the bra and tail worn by Phoebe as a mermaid, the red cape worn by Piper as Little Red Riding Hood, and the superheroe costumes to name a few, were seen.
• This is the first episode to reveal the adult Wyatt Halliwell and is the first appearance of actor Wes Ramsey as Wyatt.
• In this episode, it is shown that witches can shimmer; previously shimmering had been portrayed as an exclusively demonic ability.
• In this episode, Evil Wyatt is able to touch the Book of Shadows, which reflects the morality of the Halliwells and won't let anyone of opposing morality touch it. However, Chris is also able to touch the book.
• Chris-Crossed was the highest-rated non-premiere episode since season three's "All Halliwell's Eve", rating 6.2 million viewers. No subsequent episodes rated higher.
• Phoebe is seen speaking Mandarin Chinese, showing off how she would be prepared to travel in Hong Kong with Jason. However, Cantonese Chinese is the main language spoken there, making her very ill-prepared.
• In this episode, Chris is wearing different clothes when he travels through the portal in his flashback than what he was wearing when he first appeared in "Oh My Goddess (Part 1)", even though that was meant to be the memory of him first coming to the past. It is likely the once Chris came to the past he worked on his plan to get rid of Leo before going to prepare the sisters to fight the Titans.
• When Chris, Bianca and Wyatt are in the attic the book of shadows is real, but in Chris memories the book in the atic was a hologram and he had to summon it.
• When the girls put Chris power's spell under the floorboard it was roll on, but when Chris take it out the paper is folded.
• Phoebe is able to sense Chris'love for Bianca, even though Chris took the empath-blocking potion a few episodes previous.
