Deadline 3 : Wiki project topic selection (Shinhee Kim, Minkyo Jeong)

Hello, professor. I wanna tell you about the formation of a team for main wiki project and the topics. The team members are Jeong Minkyo, Kim Shinhee, and we are planning to do one English wiki and one Korean. I’m leaving a message on behalf of the team, and if you give us an feedback, we'll check it out together. : )

English Wikipedia Topic : Housing patterns of people in their 20s and 30s in Korea
Reason for Selection: Currently, housing problems in South Korea cause housing types such as "sharehouses" or "one-room" among the younger generation. We would like to take note of this.
Korean Wikipedia topic : Up-cycling (Korean, ‘새활용’)
Reason for Selection: it was considered a notable social phenomenon as a new alternative to the use of disposable products and the seriousness of environmental problems.

Please check our topic and give us feedback. Thank you!! Kyokyoyaaaaa talk💬 11:04, 24 March 2021 (UTC) Shinhee Kim (talk) 11:05, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Shinhee Kim and Kyokyoyaaaaa, As for your topic. 1) Expanding ko:새활용 with Upcycling is a good idea - approved. Howver, 2) " Housing Types of 2030 Generation in Korea" needs more consideration. The issue is interesting, but the title itself is unclear. You say "housing patterns", which makes more sense, to it should be Housing patterns of 2030 Generation in Korea. But what is the "2030 Generation in Korea"? The 2030 generation has not been born yet. Please consider that Wikipedia is not a place for original research (please see WP:NOR/ko:위키백과:독자 연구 금지] as well as the WP:GNG/ko:위키백과:문서 등재 기준 guidelines. After you read those, and still want to work on that topic, please tell me what academic/newspaper sources you intend to use.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:06, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, professor,Piotrus. I'd like to explain what you said.
There seems to have been an error in our expression. It is regrettable that what we intended was misrepresented.
We are going to work on a project about "Housing patterns of people in their 20s and 30s in Korea." So, it's not about the population born in 2030, it's a project about current young adult generation in Korea.
Currently, housing problems in South Korea cause housing types such as "sharehouses" or "one-room" among the younger generation. We would like to take note of this and proceed with the project. Because it is about the current housing patterns of young people, it is expected to be possible through finding out existing academic and news materials, not new research. There seems to be no problem with originality because it is about the current phenomenon. I wonder if it would be okay to do it this way.
Please check our topic again and give us feedback. : )
Thank you. Kyokyoyaaaaa talk💬 11:48, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kyokyoyaaaaa, Ah, now I understand. The idea is very good, as long as you can find reliable sources for it. I recommend you submit the list of such sources to me soon (it is required for the outline deadline anyway). However, it is also a small section of the (very poor) article on Real estate in South Korea. Perhaps it would be better to reconsider your topic as writing about the 'Real estate in South Korea' in general, in which you could have a section about the 'Housing patterns of people in their 20s and 30s in Korea'? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:09, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Piotrus Hello, professor! I understood what you said, and when I checked the article or thesis on the related topic, I thought it would be a little difficult for us to proceed. So we decided to change the subject, and the newly set topic is "Korean Proverbs." When I looked up related information, I think we could organize the folklore characteristics related to Korean proverbs by investigating the type and origin of Korean proverbs. Academic papers related to the study of proverbial types, such as ethnicity, were also found. I look forward to hearing from you if I can proceed with the changed topic. Thank you. :) Shinhee Kim (talk) 10:51, 27 March 2021 (UTC), Kyokyoyaaaaa talk💬 10:53, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kyokyoyaaaaa, Yes, the topic of Korean proverbs is interesting and should be written about. Is there a corresponding Korean Wikipeda artice? In either case, the topic approved! Please add it to our dashboard under your assigned topics. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:16, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itaewon_Class#cite_note-8 Hello, I'm Baek Ji Woo. Please check it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jiwoo2020 (talkcontribs) 13:29, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jiwoo2020, I am afraid I can't verify that you have added this reference (or any other) on English Wikipedia: [1]. Which article did you edit? If possible, please locate and provide me with a WP:DIFF for your edit. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:18, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Added quotes and modified footnotes. I'm attaching it to make sure it's correct.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choi_Ji-woo Incorrect link uploaded. I'm sorry.Jiwoo2020 (talk) 16:28, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jiwoo2020, Better, but reviewing your edits, I noticed that while you did correctly add a reference to the paragraph that beings with "Choi majored in aerobic dance..." you also removed another reference from an earlier part of the article, and deleted the section heading 'personal life'. I have therefore restored the previous version. Please try to add your reference again, this time without removing any other existing content. You are halfway there! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:46, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choi_Ji-wooFootnote [53] has been added without deletion. Please check the additional blog assignments, too.Jiwoo2020 (talk) 16:33, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Subin3754, Good job adding references here and here. Assignment completed! Just one question: in the last edit, you removed information about the concern in Japan - why? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:41, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As a result of my search, I deleted it because I couldn't find any articles or documents that could prove that I was going to have a concert in Japan. --Subin3754 (talk) 09:47, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Subin3754, Excellent job explaining your reasons, and I will award you extra credit for doing so here. In the future, I suggest you include such an explanation in your Wikipedia:Edit summary. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:49, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Shinhee Kim, Good job adding the reference on Korean Wikipedia. I encourage you do also add it to the English article if it is missing that information (this would count for weekly edits too). Your weekly edits look good, I see no errors, very well done - keep up the good job! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:44, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline 3 (Week 4) - Yeseo Lim

Hello, professor! I'm Yeseo Lim. I finished Dealine 3. But I'm not sure if I did it right. I'd appreciate your feedback after checking. Thank you! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_development --Ivisy6952 (talk) 10:45, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ivisy6952, Unfortunately, there were several problems with your edits there and they have been undone by another volunteer. The problems are 1) Namu Wiki is not considered a reliable source and cannot be used as a reference in Wikipedia 2) your reference was a bare URL and was not formatted with a citation template. Please try again, adding a reference to a reliable source (newspaper/book/magazine/journal) and formatting it correctly. Good luck and let me know when your make up edit is ready for a review! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:40, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that there were some problems in the process of carrying out the assignment, and I corrected them. I modified the URL to the correct form and used a Korean article as the reference. Please check the link above again! Thank you always. Have a nice day, professor! --Ivisy6952 (talk) 07:24, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ivisy6952, Your second attempt [3] appears to be well-formatted, although I recommend you use citation templates. I am not sure why User:MrOllie reverted your second try (without providing any justification). Let's ask him here. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:38, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Piotrus, For something as simple as a definition of GDP I think we can find something a little more accessible to our English readers than a Korean language newspaper. MrOllie (talk) 13:03, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
MrOllie, While I agree the source is not the best, given the language, how about {{better source needed}}? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:58, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Piotrus, I just added a cite to the IMF's definition. MrOllie (talk) 14:03, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
MrOllie, Elegant solution, thank you :) On a side note, do note that one of my concerns here is to explain best practices to the new (student) editors. Too often they may not realize what they did wrong or how they could do things better unless we explain it to them in detail. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:06, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it would be a good idea to add Korean articles to translate English articles into Korean. However, in the future, I will try to find more suitable materials. Thank you!--Ivisy6952 (talk) 03:55, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline 3/ PARK CHAEJEONG

Hello, professor.

I added a reference to [live article(outside the sandbox)].

Also I changed [the external link to internal link] (about Yeo Jin-goo), which you mentioned last talk message, so please check it too :) Pkccccj 15:36, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pkccccj, Good job here. But regarding [4], references are added at the end of a sentence, not a heading. Heading should not have references. Please move your reference to the end of the sentence for which it verifies the facts therein (the end of the 'Synopsis' section?). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:41, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DeadLine 3(week 4): Jeong Hyeon-su

Hello professor, I edited this wiki article. Please check it. Did I do correctly? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lee_Yong-soo_(activist)&action=history --Crocus131 (talk) 22:31, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Crocus131, Yes, good job with this edit. The content is relevant and well referenced, but please double check grammar/vocabulary. For example, you need to capitalize ramseyer into Ramseyer in the last sentence. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:43, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I finished Deadline 3 (Week 4)

@Piotrus: Hello, professor. I finished Deadline 3 (Week 4). Did I do well? I'll do additional EDIT work after your review. I've added a citation related to Hapkido. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hapkido Please check it. Thank you. --Hyeonyoung Lee 21 (talk) 06:25, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hyeonyoung Lee 21, Pretty good, although another volunteer, User:Trappist the monk made some minor fixes [5] (you can thank him using the Wikipedia:Thanks function). Can you clarify if you cite a particular page (190) or did you want to indicate the work (thesis) has 190 pages total? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:35, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My dashboard activity history is displayed strangely. / Suyoung Han

Hello Professor, I am Suyoung Han. I am currently editing Wikipedia, and I checked the activities in the program dashboard.

However, the details were summarized as having written topics that are different from what I edited.

1. I have edited Kkoma Gimbap/Nude Gimbap in the Gimbap section, but the details say that I have written "ไนต์อินทูดรีมส์ ".

2. Also, I edited images of the English Wikipedia Siheung, but the description is written as Q1018337.

Each topic is clearly marked with my ID in the history.

What should I do if topics I wrote and topics in the dashboard activity are different? Thanks for reading my question! --Swamming (talk) 08:44, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Swamming, Hmmm. According to the website status, "The Dashboard is still having problems with database corruption. ". Don't worry about it too much as I can review your articles using other tools. I will award you extra credit for reporting this issue to me in detail :) Ping User:Sage (Wiki Ed) in case you find this error report helpful. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:42, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline3 (Week4) / Giyeon Woo

Hello, professor. I am done with my deadline3 assignment. Please check whether I did it correctly or not. Thank you!--Woo-Giyeon (talk) 09:28, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Woo-Giyeon, I see [6]. The reference is formatted correctly, but please explain which part of the paragraph does the text support? The reference you added is about the British Parliament, which is not that relevant to the section you referenced. Best, please quote here the Wikipedia text that you are referencing, and then the text from the website you linked that supports it. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:46, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If possible, I'd like to post a photo of myself, but I can't take this picture

So it's okay? or Something should do that? Capoco1234 (talk) 11:30, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Capoco1234, I am afraid that uploading modified images is not allowed. According to copyright, the modification does not give any ownership of the original image, and as such, the image needs to be deleted (ping User:Masur, User:-revi). You can only upload images that you have taken or created yourself, or that are in the public domain or otherwise are freely licenced. If you want to uploaded a photo of someone, found on another website, you need to contact them for permission which they need to forward to Wikipedia volunteers reviewing copyright issues. See commons:Commons:메일 양식 for the text you can use to send them and that they'll need to send to Wikipedia if they want this photo to be used here. I've done Deadline 3 and weekly wiki edits

Dear Professor Piotrus

I've done Deadline3 and weekly wiki edits. You can see what I've done here. Thanks a lot.

SangminChoe (talk) 11:32, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SangminChoe, Nicely done with referencing here and in the other articles, and well done linking to your Korean Wikipedia contribution page. Good job! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:58, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copy edit

Hi Piotrus.

Sorry to disturb you but I have been working tirelessly for two months now on the article 'Sigismund III Vasa' and I was wondering whether you can copy edit it (check any mistakes, restructure sentences, grammar etc.). All the references I have included are published book sources with attached page numbers. I have still the 'Legacy' section to do but other than that it is almost complete. My goal is to eventually nominate it and upgrade it to a GA or perhaps FA status (fingers crossed). Oliszydlowski (talk) 12:40, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oliszydlowski, Sure, I'll take a look at it soon! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:26, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline 3 (Week 4): Adding an inline reference (citation), Minkyo Jeong

Hello, professor! I finished weekly 10 edits and adding an citation in this page :) Also, I registered main Wiki topic in the dashboard system.

Actually, I'm not sure that I did it in a right way... please check my assignments and give me feedback. Thank you :) Kyokyoyaaaaa talk💬 13:12, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kyokyoyaaaaa, Good job adding the reference here. But I am not sure where are your other weekly edits? The weekly edits don't count edits for your main project/deadlines/posting to my talk page. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:31, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, professor, Piotrus. I did it on March 22. Please check my edit here.Kyokyoyaaaaa talk💬 03:38, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kyokyoyaaaaa, Ah, yes. Those are good, particularly here, but in [7], consider the rules for external links. We don't generally add links - such as to the companies websites - in the article body. Links in the article body should be only for other Wikipedia articles. The place for any external links is in the both section of the article called 'external links', so I suggest you fix your edits accordingly. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:07, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I finished the assignment for deadline 3 (week 4) -WANG XIAOLING

Hello Professor, I’m Wang Xiaoling of collective intelligence, I finished the assignment for deadline 3 (week 4). This is the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zheng_Shuang_(actress,_born_1991)&diff=1014633603&oldid=1014633421. I also completed 10 Wikipedia task edits this week. In addition, I edited Wikipedia 30 times. Can I get extra credits? Wikipedia has been edited 40 times in total this week. Also please check the blog post about extra credits. Regarding the extra credits task for blogging, I wrote about my thoughts on the book "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life", but the professor left me a message saying that my blog was wrong(This is a reply to my blog link: https://socwiki2021.blogspot.com/2021/03/w3-thoughts-on-reading-presentation-of.html). Can I not get extra credits for writing other books?

Please check my homework, thank you!^^ WANG XIAOLING995 13:37, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WANG XIAOLING995, Good job adding referenced content here, and your other edits look good too. For future extra credit, if you are interested in Chinese film controversies, maybe you could translate the article zh:赵立新 to English?
Do note that per MOS:BIRTHPLACE, information on birthplace is preferred in the body of the article, not its lead. Some of your edits have been reverted; please move the birth place information to the lower section.
Regarding your blog, the blog itself is very good, but you posted it in the wrong blog (the book is for our 'Everday Life' class, but you blogged about it in our 'Collective Intelligence' class blog). If you got invited to the wrong blog, please send me an email about this and I'll invite you to the correct blog so you can copy your blogs there. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:49, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus, 1) I can translate zh:赵立新 to English Wikipedia. How long is the deadline? 2) Thank you professor for your feedback, I will pay attention next time! 3)In the syllabus:"b) you can blog about the question poised in the syllabus for a given week (for some weeks it’s the same as a) above, but for some weeks it is different). The structure of the blog post should be similar to that of a), also you are welcome to incorporate other materials than simply the assigned readings for next week (you can also discuss the past readings, lectures, and anything else you find on your own). "

It seems that can write other books to get extra credits. I don’t know that this book is also available in other classes of the professor. I think this book is very famous and interesting so I want to write my thoughts about this book. I have written 4 blogs about this book. Can I get extra credits? Or if write a blog about this book, its won’t get extra credits? thank you!^^professor. Have a nice day~ WANG XIAOLING995 05:57, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WANG XIAOLING995, There is no deadline for extra credit projects (well, the deadline would be the end of the class in late June). You can get extra credit for blogging about the book, just note that the credits will be applied to the class this book is relevant to (so if you blog about Goffman's Presentation... then the credits will be awarded for the Everday Life class). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 17:10, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus, 1)Can I get extra credits by writing articles in other books through my blog? 2)If I make additional credits for Wikipedia editing, and the editor makes a mistake and is withdrawn, can I still earn additional credits?

Thank you professor for replying to me patiently, I wish you have a good day. WANG XIAOLING995 01:42, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WANG XIAOLING995, If they are books that are assigned reading to our course, yes. Other than that, the preferred venue to earn extra credits is to do more Wikipedia edits, as it is more productive than blogging. Regarding making an edit that was a mistake, you can earn extra credit if you acknowledge what was the mistake and fix it either directly or by making a similar edit that is not a mistake. For example, if you add a sentence that is removed because it contained grammatical errors or was unreferenced, you can get credit by restoring that sentence with grammatical error fixed and/or the reference provided, as necessary. I hope this helps! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:29, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus, Already understand, thank you professor, I will work hard. have a good day^^ WANG XIAOLING995 03:01, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline3 : week4 Youngsil Lee

Hello, @Piotrus: This week, I finished editing 10 Wikipedia content with a reference addition and also registered Wikipedia main project topics on the dashboard. Please give me feedback after checking. Thank you.--Youngsil (talk) 14:57, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Youngsil, Well done adding referenced content. It looks good, but keep in mind the importance of not only grammar/vocabulary but style. For example, "and made it with all his heart" likely needs rewriting or removing as it doesn't sound encyclopedic. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:03, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Piotrus: Professor, I've made 10 edits. please check it Hyeonyoung Lee 21 (talk) 15:01, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hyeonyoung Lee 21, Good start, but please try to add references to the content you add. For example, [8] - what reliable source confirms that it is famous in those regions? Who is the source of this finding? Or this? You may find that your edits are reverted if no reliable source is provided, particularly for issues related to medicine. See also WP:MEDRS. Deadline3 Assignment ?(WiKi, Chaehyoseung)

Hello professor, I am Chaehyoseung.I finish Deadline3(week4) Assignment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mijoo#Television_shows Please chaek this link. I add some content and add links too. --Chaehyoseung (talk) 16:56, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chaehyoseung, Good job editing a table, but what you added are external links, not references. Please try to add correctly formated references (which should take the form of footnotes) and let me know when you are done. Good luck! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:19, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Chaehyoseung, Unfortunately, this is still not correct. You now added an external link into a text; this is generally not allowed as it resembles spam - see also the friendly message & explanation another volunteer, User:Paper9oll, left for you at User_talk:Chaehyoseung#April_2021. You need to format your addition as a reference, in the form of a footnote that is not just a bare URL but specifies the author, publisher, date, title, an d so on. Please see WP:CITE and watch our course video tutorial on adding references. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:05, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Piotrus: Hi there, your student added Naver Search result as reference which is not consider reliable source hence this is the reason why I reverted the edit. Would recommended to use primary source or secondary source (preferably news source) instead. I have since added the supporting references to the unsourced content which was previously added by another editor. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 06:27, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Professor, I try again this assignment. Please check this link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dana_(South_Korean_singer). I added external link. thank you.--Chaehyoseung (talk) 06:15, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chaehyoseung, I am afraid you are repeating your previous mistakes and even confirming this here ("I added external link" - yes, and this is NOT what the assignment requires - you should add a reference instead). Please stop, read the Wikipedia rules I and others linked, watch our video, and also read this talk page where many of your colleagues have reported their correct submissions (and compare them to yours). In your latest edit, already reverted by another volunteer, you have added external links (not references) and linked google search results (not acceptable) and youtube (also not acceptable). A reference should be a direct link to a newspaper, magazine or such, and correctly formatted (like described above). You can see an example of how a reference is added, correctly, here - this edit is courtesy of volunteer Paper9oll. Please study it carefully and compare it to yours [10]. Can you see the difference? You need not only to use the correct code (for references), but ensure that your references are reliable. Given that you have repeated the same error several times, I recommend that you first submit a reference in your sandbox, then I'll review it, and only then you should add it to the mainspace. [week4] Lee Yerin

Hello, professor, I'm Yerin Lee.

First of all 1. Blog posting 2. Commenting 3. Editing 10 Wikipedia topics 4. Selecting topics I've finished, please check!

In addition, I have a question. First of all, I finished editing 10 Wikipedia this week on Saturday, March 27th, but when I checked, the Korean editing was not recorded on the dashboard, and a small number of English compilation was deleted. In this case, do I need to edit it additionally?

Secondly, please check my article subject ko: Independent bookstores.

Thank you always.--Yellieyellie (talk) 18:24, 28 March 2021 (UTC)@Lee yerin[reply]

Dashboard tool is experiencing some trouble, but don't worry, I can still monitor your activity using other tools. Regarding the content you added that has been reverted / deleted, please check messages I and others left on your talk, it explains why some of it was removed. For example, this was poorly formatted, unreferenced and of unclear relevance. Are those official instagram accounts of Hanyang? If so, they could be added to the external links section; they don't need their own subsections. But don't worry, may of your other edits are good and have not been deleted.
Regarding Independent bookstore, it is an interesting topic but the article is not very good. You can translate it to Korean for extra credit, but for the main project, please choose a different topic. See User:Piotrus/Ideas for students. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:29, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Assignment Deadlin 3: Jung Eunjin & Yun Chanmi

Hello, professor. We checked your feedback. And we understood everything.

We added a reference[1] to the "인지 편향."

Based on the references added to this article, we will continue the translation process.

I think we can add more accurate and diverse references through the translation process.

So we completed Deadline 3. Is it correct?

Please check it. And we're sorry to late.

Now we will start working on Deadline 4. Thank you for reading it. Have a nice day! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eunjin Jung (talkcontribs) 07:20, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Eunjin Jung, Good job with [11], it is correctly done. However, as I noted before, this deadline is individual, not a group. Both of you have to add a reference, each from their own account. So one of you still needs to finish this assignment. Good luck! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:26, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chanmi0618, First, please in mind that this deadline is individual. Each of you has to complete it using their own account (and report it here). The edit to Korean Wikipedia seems good, but I had to undo your edit to English Wikipedia since it was not in English: [12]. Please remember to use English on English Wikipedia. Finally, please remember to WP:SIGN your posts when posting on talk pages. Please let me know if you fix the edit on the 'women in South Korea' page so I can review it again. Deadline 3(again) - Eunsun Choi

Professor, I left a talk few days ago, but didn't receive your comment!

I told

"Hellp, professor! I finished Deadline 3 (week 4) assignment. I edited this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surveillance_capitalism#Response adding reference number 37. Could you check my assignment? And also I edited this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Social_Dilemma#Scientific_basis adding reference number 16. I am not sure whether I'm going well or not but sure that editing wikipedia makes me more and more interested. Still not good enough, I'll try to do my best to follow this class!"

Please check again and give me an advice. Thank you. :) --This is silverline (talk) 16:34, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is silverline, Good job! Here are thoughts on how you can improve those edits: 1) The reference here is well-formatted, but that sentence was already referenced. Keeping in mind this is English Wikipedia, what is the benefit of the reference you added for most readers? Also, when adding Korean-language references to English Wikipedia, I suggest you see the optional 'translated title' parameter and add an English translation of the Korean title (do not remove the Korean title, both should be visible). 2) Re [13], when adding a citation to a book, please add the page number(s) for the pages you consulted. Readers who want to read more about this issue may not want to read the entire book and instead may want to look at the specific page or two which contain the relevant information.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:36, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline3- Oh Serin

Hello, professor. I started editing Wikipedia. But the subject I set was harder than I thought. It will take some time to add more content. (I'll try to add it as soon as possible) Could you check if I'm editing it correctly?

Here's a link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:IQ#References — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ohserin (talkcontribs) 17:02, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ohserin, Dear Oh Serin. It's a good start, but since you want to translate the article to Korean, you should copy your sandbox to Korean Wikipedia (where you have a sandbox too). The sooner you do so the better, as technical parts like code (including references) will not copy well, so some of the work you do here, in English Wikipedia's sandbox, is wasted as you'll have to do it again from scratch on the Korean side.
Also, please remember to WP:SIGN your talk page posts. Good luck! Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:51, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week4. Thank you for your feedback

@Piotrus: Thank you for your reply. I also thanked User: Trappist the monk for helping me with my revision 'Hapkido'. The whole page is 190 pages, and the part I’ve quoted is pages 13-21. Should I correct my citation information? Also, what exactly does "volume" mean? Is it correct to write "Volume = p.190, Pages = 13-21"? Sorry for being awkward at Wikipedia. ㅠㅠ Thank you for your help. Have a nice day :-) Hyeonyoung Lee 21 (talk) 02:30, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hyeonyoung Lee 21, Great that you learned how to send a thank you note to other editors :) And yes, please correct the information to list pages 13-21. I think it is usually not necessary to report the total number of pages (190). Nothing to be sorry for, learning how to write quality content takes time and you are making good progress! Questions about the reference

@Piotrus: Hello Professor. Thanks for the detailed feedback on my assignment. First, the source of information for 19 is Doosan Encyclopedia. Could it be a good reference?

Second, the source of this finding is the Encyclopedia of Korean Ethnic Culture and the source of this information is Doosan Encyclopedia. Can various Korean encyclopedias be a good reference??

--Hyeonyoung Lee 21 (talk) 03:14, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hyeonyoung Lee 21, Yes, Korean encyclopedias like the Doosan Encyclopedia or the specialized Encyclopedia of Korean Ethnic Culture (which likely needs an article about itself to be written) - or encyclopedias in general - are reliable sources. See also WP:RS which answers your question: "Reputable tertiary sources, such as introductory-level university textbooks, almanacs, and encyclopedias, may be cited". I recommend reading the RS page, it is very helpful in understanding what 'reliable' means on Wikipedia. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:21, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As you answered, I copied the translation of "Vogue(magazine)" into my sandbox to a Wikipedia article in Korea. I'll also attach a link to Korean Wikipedia, so please take a look. Since you said that references are not copied well, from now on, I will translate and modify them right away in Korean Wikipedia articles, not in my sandbox. The reason why I wrote draft into my sandbox was to do deadline 4. Is my assignment completely confirmed?

Deadline 3 (Week 4) - Gaeun Um (retry)

Hello, professor:) I retried my assignment. My number is 44. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_inequality#cite_ref-81 Here is the link. Please check it! Thank you so much!--Garongronga (talk) 15:04, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Garongronga, I am afraid your edit was badly formatted and therefore was reverted by another volunteer here. You can try again but please format the reference correctly, so that the external link is within the citation template. Also, for such topics on English Wikipedia, English references should be easy to find. You may be better off adding a Korean language reference to a Korean topic in this case. It is allowed to add Korean language reference to English Wikipedia, but if you want to do it here, please provide a translated quotation that supports the claim(s) you are referencing. Deadline3 (Week4) retry : Jeong Hyerin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangul#Reforms_and_prohibition_under_Japanese_rule Hello professor, I am sending you a revised assignment. The footnote in the link above has been modified. The footnote modified is [37]. Please check!--Heeyrin (talk) 15:05, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Heeyrin, I have reviewed your addition. Unfortunatey, the code is not correct. Please format the reference properly (make sure to provide information such as the author, publisher, date, translated title and relevant quote), it does not look correct right now. I recommend you study how to use Wikipedia:Citation templates. Also, see our video on how to add references where I demonstrate how to do so with the correct formatting. Hello, professor.

Hello, Professor. I'm Park Chae Jeong.

To do the editing task, I've added a new post to Wikipedia for the k-drama 괴물 which I enjoy watching these days. However, there was already a drama information article called Beyond Evil (TV series) :(:( I wrote 'Monster (K-drama)' without knowing it.

  • I translated 괴물 to monster incorrectly into a Korean translation, so I added it without knowing if there were any existing drama-related articles.

I want to delete it, but I can't delete it. What should I do? Please help me. Pkccccj 16:59, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pkccccj, Ah, that's a shame. In the future, it is always good to first double-check if there is a WP:INTERWIKI language link in a Korean article you'd like to translate. For now, I have used a Wikipedia:Redirect to retarget your article to the existing one but your submission is still accessible through history so you can still copy your content form here (you can click edit buttons to copy more easily). Try to add any information from your version that is not present in the existing article there (this is called merging). Good experience, well done reporting the issue to me, and keep up the good job! Your edits are not wasted and will be considered for our assignments. I finished Deadline 4 (week5) / Younji Ha

Hello, professor. I did part of Wikipedia article translation, which is assignment for Deadline 4 (Week 5). Because I translated English article into Korean, I wrote them in my sandbox page in Korean Wikipedia.

https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EC%82%AC%EC%9A%A9%EC%9E%90:Younjihaa/%EC%97%B0%EC%8A%B5%EC%9E%A5

(To avoid confusion while translating, the title of each paragraph have not been translated.)

Also I have some questions while translating.

1. I the original article, the content was directly linked to another wiki document (for additional explanation of the content), but if there is no document in Korean, is it okay not to link the article? (I haven't added any links yet. And I will add it later.)

2. The original article quoted a particular person, should this be translated into Korean? (Or should I write both the original and the Korean translation?)

Please check. Thank you.--Younjihaa (talk) 18:40, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Younjihaa, Excellent questions! Links are important. If there is no existing Korean Wikipedia article, you can make red links - see WP:RED. There is also an advanced template that can be used for this purpose you can experiment with - see ko:틀:임시링크. Regarding quotes, I believe they should be translated. Keep up the good job! Inquiries about dashboard history for program

Hello, professor. I'm jisoo jung. I'm contacting you to ask how I can solve the problem of the article I edited. I edited 'Siheung' and I checked it out later and it came out in the form of 'https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1018337'. If you tell me how to solve it, I'll edit it again. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Newuser04 (talkcontribs) 03:27, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
