#REDIRECT [[Jericho (2006 TV series)#Jerichos Armaments]] {{R to section}}
In the aftermath of the nuclear detonations across the United States, many rogue groups of bandits, criminals and mercenary's, such as Ravenwood Solutions, formed to take advantage of the chaos that followed to steal supplies or treasure for their own ends. In response to this threat, and at the urging of Jake Green for a proper security force to protect Jericho's lives and property following the deaths of most of their Sheriff's Department, Mayor Johnston Green authorized Jake to form the Jericho Defenders, which is to be an official security force for the town during the chaotic times they are living in following the attacks.

The Defenders themselves originally numbered 10, as it was preceded by the Jericho Sheriff's Department. 6 members were killed in the early season by escaped convicts, but shortly after the group forms, it expands by 20 members. Roger Hammond's group of 53 refugees expanded the group again, and this number could have expanded to hundreds when Jake asked for all able-bodied over-16-year-olds to enlist.

The group itself is officially led by Sheriff Jimmy Taylor, due to his position as Sheriff of Jericho and head of all law enforcement in the town, with new Mayor Gray Anderson as his superior and the one who gives orders. However, Former-Mayor Johnston Green's military expertise make him head of all military-related operation with the group and normally has the support of Jericho's civilian population and normally usurps Anderson's decisions. Jake is also more of an able-bodied field military leader than Taylor and trains new recruits; making him the main group commander.

Weapons and Equipment the Defenders use is G36's, M-14's, M-16's, A2's and other shotguns, semi-automatics and side-arms either salvaged from past events or from the town's armoury. Robert Hawkins, the groups best sniper, supplied a box filled with M1 Carbine rifles and a large stash of ammunition, significantly improving the Defenders defensive capabilities. The group uses pick-up trucks, cargo trucks, cars and vans for transport, but has a single M1 Abrams Tank that was given by a group of Fake Marines.

The Defenders are now currently defending Jericho from an invasion by the New Bern Militia, which seeks to conquer the town and steal many of its farms and salt supply due to the desperate situation of their own town. The Defenders were able to fight back the initial waves of attacks, but Johnston Green was killed. New Bern then sent in several hundred more men by trucks and by train, all personally led by New Bern Town Manager and Sheriff Phil Constantino, to re-engage the Defenders. The season one finale ended just as the firefight resumed.
