Setarchidae is a small family of scorpionfishes.[1]
Not all classifications recognise this family; Nelson and ITIS include it in the family Scorpaenidae.[2][3]
They are small marine fishes, growing up to 25 cm, and are found in tropical and subtropical waters throughout the world.
Species
There are five species in three genera:
- Genus Ectreposebastes
- Midwater scorpionfish, Ectreposebastes imus Garman, 1899.
- Pelagic scorpionfish, Ectreposebastes niger (Fourmanoir, 1971).
- Genus Lioscorpius
- Lioscorpius longiceps Günther, 1880.
- Genus Setarches
- Deepwater scorpionfish, Setarches guentheri Johnson, 1862.
- Setarches longimanus (Alcock, 1894).
