History

On 3 October 1934 route 248 Ilford station to Leytonstone was renumbered 147. In May 1948 it was extended to [[Redbridge railway station|Redbridge station]. In June 1954 it was extended south to North Woolwich.[1]

In July 1964 it was cut back to Royal Albert Dock and converted to AEC Routemaster operation. In July 1971 the route was converted to one man operation with ingle deck buses. The unreliability of such buses saw their replacement with Daimler Fleetlines in November 1975.[1]

In May 1999 it was extended to Canning Town station, and in August 2000 the Leyland Titans were replaced by Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident 2s. A new contract was commenced by the existing operator, Stagecoach London, on 10 May 2004.[1]
