Hayatullah Khan Durrani (Pashto, Urdu,Persian: حیات الله خان درانی ) is a Pakistani, cave Explorer and Mountaineer.

He was born on 22nd April 1963 in the ethnic Pashtun Durrani tribe of Sadozai family in Quetta Balochistan, Pakistan.

His activities span a wide range of adventure sports. He is an explorer, a mountaineer, a caver, an environmentalist, an organizer, a rescuer and an actor.

Hayatullah Khan Durrani played a significant role in the promotion of Mountaineering and caving adventure sports in Pakistan, including Rock-climbing. He is the founder of Cave exploration Adventure Sports in Pakistan.


Education Career

Hayatullah Khan Durrani obtained a Master's degree in Sociology from Balochistan University, Quetta Balochistan in 1987,

He is currently performing the duties of the post of Deputy Superintendent (OPS) and Secretary Sports of Pakistan Customs Sports Board, Quetta, and media officer of Modern Customs Collectorate MCC Quetta, Balochistan.

Adventure Sports career

On 6th September 1984 Hayatullah Khan Durrani founded and established Chiltan Adventures Association, Balochistan (caab), the First and only Caving Adventure sports Organization in Pakistan and first Mountaineering Adventure sports and Rescue Organization in Quetta Balochistan and he has headed the association ever since. On 14th August 1994 he founded Pakistan Cave Research and Caving Federation (pcra) for Caving and Rescue activities in Pakistan. In 1994 and 1999 his pursuit of adventure sports activities took him to Derbyshire, United Kingdom, where he obtained a Caving and Rock-Climbing advance course from the Orpheus Caving Club unit of British Cave Research Association & British Caving Association. BBC Radio Derby interviewed him for the Pak-Britain caving expedition.

He has spent a major part of his life promoting Mountain climbing and Caving (Speleology) sports to the youth of Pakistan. He has an individual international record of exploring 128 caves in Pakistan. Since 1984 he has celebrated every Nation-day event by hoisting the Pakistani National flag on mountains in Pakistan and aboard. His tradition of hoisting National flag on mountains top has acquired a unique status in the country. On the basis of meritorious services the General Assembly of the Union of International Speleology (39 represented countries in Athens Greece 14th ICS 2005) voted on having Pakistan as a member country to the Union Internationale de Spéléologie.

On 14th August 2005, in recognition of his life long services to Caving, Mountain Adventure, as Juniper Defender and water Sports in Pakistan, the honorable President, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, conferred "President's Award for Pride of Performance" on him.[1]

Environmental work

Hayatullah Khan Durrani is also involved in conserving junipers & the wildlife of Ziarat & Zarghoon areas. He is trying to establish a Juniper Defenders center at Chautair Valley, Ziarat, to educate people and to create awareness especially among young people for the protection of this important ecosystem, to take remedial measures to stop the destruction of this valuable world heritage forest and the endangered species within.

Rescue work

An eleven-member team of the Pakistan Cave Research Association (PCRA) and Chiltan Adventure Association of Balochistan (CAAB) joined hands with teams from other countries carried out search and rescue operations in Balakot, one of the worst-hit areas of the October 8 earth quake in Pakistan, The team also visited various relief camps established in the area and provided relief goods and cash money to the affectees in Balakot and shinkyari district of NWFP. The PCRA and CAAB Search and Rescue team was led by as commander Mr. Hayatullah Khan Durrani (Pride-of-Performance) ( Internationally renowned mountaineer and Cave Explorer ) the team also includes Malik Abdul Rahim Babai Team Chairman and Ms Rahilla Durrani Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, a member of the Balochistan Assembly,

During the past many years the rescue squad of caab, pcra and hdwsa recovered death bodies of different young boys from thorkhazai dame Loralai, Mannah dame Duki, Khoshal hotel Killi Hanna chashma.

The rescue squad of caab, pcra and hdwsa headed by Hayatullah Khan Durrani visited the Killi waham and other mounted small villages the most effected area of 29th October 2008 Ziarat earthquake. They camp over there for four days and distributed food stuff, blankets and warm clothe among effected Survivors outside their collapsed houses.


as Actor

Being an actor, Hayatullah Khan Durrani performed in PTV serials as well as a renowned 13 episode serial titled : "Palay Shah" Palay Khan and assorted most popular play Pakistani Bahiyoun produced by Sajjad Ahmad and “Barf Ka Sooraj” “Deeway” and documentary film for the protection of juniper forests, “Gul Zameen” and Pakistan’s first documentary on caving “Caves in Balochistan” produced and Directed by Dur Mohammad Kassi of Ptv Quetta center and more. He also participated in many stage and live programmes of PTV as caving and mountaineering sports legend of Pakistan.
