Little request

Hi Matty,

Since you're such an ace at updating football player statistics, I have a little request for you regarding (what else) the Gilberto Silva article. Since it will be 'main paged' on May 16th, I think it's very important that the stats are 100% perfect, since so many people will be viewing it that day. Do you think you could double check all the stats and add on his recent appearances? I know it's a little cheeky of me to ask this, but the reason I do ask is that I'm abroad at the moment, and I can only access Wikipedia from an internet cafe - it makes editing a complete nightmare. Anyway, if you'd be so kind as to spare a few Wiki-minutes doing the aforementioned, I'd be eternally grateful, and if you don't have time, then of course don't worry in the slightest.

All the best. GilbertoSilvaFan 21:52, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Hutchings

Have you got a source that his name is actually Christopher, not Chris or Christian?  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  15:58, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great. Never heard of that site before. Laters.  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  16:27, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Brown

Much in the same way that Jean-Claude Darcheville or Alan Gow have signed for Rangers - he is still a Hibs player and can't go anywhere until the transfer window opens. WATP  (talk)(contribs) 15:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps one for a discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football then, I can't think of any way in which a player who isn't out of contract would be permitted to move outside the window. I also think Brown would be eligible for selection for Hibs' game this weekend, were he not suspended. Could be wrong though. WATP  (talk)(contribs) 15:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please give me a refrence of a book/URL of Steve Evans' full name (Stephen J. Evans). Reply on my talk page. Kingjamie 13:25, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for that site, will use in future Kingjamie 13:29, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your vandalism

You fully new you were deleting a perfectly good edit. Kingjeff 17:18, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not crystal Balling at all. He has a legal contract with Everton. In fact your comment is crystal Balling. Kingjeff 17:23, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your last comment just shows how rediculus you are. There is nothing wrong with putting next season's row on. Kingjeff 17:28, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The July 1st thing has already started here. Kingjeff 17:32, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your last comment just proves my point even further. Since when is telling you about a discussion bad mouthing someone. Kingjeff 17:45, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a reason for calling you rediculus. You're saying to put all years of a contract into a stats table. I find that very rediculus. Kingjeff 17:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't seen anything saying he won't be there. He has a contract for the 2007-08 season with Everton. Kingjeff 17:55, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Armstrong

As far as I know there has been no official confirmation that Craig Armstrong has definitely signed for Gillingham, it certainly isn't on the GFC or CTFC websites and the BBC just say something like "reports are claiming"........ ChrisTheDude 20:52, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair play, I'd missed that page, but personally I'd still be inclined to leave it off the club's page until they officially announce it themselves ChrisTheDude 20:55, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Roy Carroll

According to West Ham (buried down the bottom of the page), "Hammers goalkeeper Roy Carroll has asked to leave Upton Park so that he can play regular first team football and has been granted a free transfer". The Roy Carroll article has been edited as if that means he's gone. I think whether he really has or not depends on your definition of "gone". Hope this helps ;-) Struway (talk) 11:40, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Markviduka.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Markviduka.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. DrFrench 20:24, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Squad Details

Hi, I am quite new to updating Wiki and notice you do a lot of non-league including Grays and am after a bit of help.

Do you know how I can update the following as when I add/removes players to the current squad they don't appear straight away. I'd like to remove the link from 'Jamie Stuart' too as the Jamie Stuart link, directs to the wrong Jamie Stuart.

Is the data for the current squad box held elsewhere or is it just taken from the Grays Athletic page with the Squad listed?

Regards.

Peer review of Margate F.C.

Hi Matty

You made some excellent comments on the Peer Review of Gillingham F.C. and I was wondering, if you had a spare moment or ten, if you could maybe take a look at another PR I've put up, namely this one. I've only had one response so far and I'd really like the input of at least one more experienced WP:FOOTBALL editor before I put it up for FA.

All the best

Recent edits to Hull City

Hi Matty,

I'm sorry, but I couldn't disagree more with your comments on the Hull City article. I think the current (latest) season is bound to be covered in more detail than one from 50 years ago (unless it was a particularly notable one where we won the FA Cup or something!) - especially with Wikpedia being a dynamic rather than a static encyclopedia. Admittedly, this is my instinct and feeling rather than any official Wikipedia policy that I'm aware of.

The current edit of the article has a one-line summary of the current season which tells us only that Peter Taylor left and was replaced by Phil Parkinson. It makes no mention of some significant occurences:

  • A season of struggle which ended with us escaping relegation by the skin of our teeth (goal difference, effectively).
  • Our first ever million-pound player.
  • Our first ever win in a televised game.
  • The sacking of Phil Parkinson and the appointment of Phil Brown.
  • The return to the club of Dean Windass (which would be on the scale of Alan Smith returning to Leeds).

Do you really think that removing all this information improves the article? Because I think quite the opposite!

Regards,

Hi again Matty.
Thanks for your reply and the link to the article on recentism. I did notice that it's not a (capital P) Policy as such, and also says that recentism isn't necessarily always a bad thing. I also noticed however that the template at the bottom of the Hull City page has links to separate History and Seasons articles, and I can certainly see the argument that the main Hull City article should be more of a brief summary while these separate articles go into more depth. I still think though that it's been pruned back a little too far and I'd like to add a little back. I think I'll go ahead and do that, and I welcome any comments or criticisms you may have on it.
On the other hand, I'm now of the opinion that much of the History section from the main article could be moved to the separate History article ! But I will leave that alone for the moment.
Best wishes,
Beve 14:40, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They are a bit POV aren't they? Especially that last one - every club has Premiership aspirations (but for some it's a more realistic prospect than others!). I rather like them though, but I'm a bit biased I suppose.

I don't know when that badge was used. I vaguely have a recollection that David Lloyd's son or somebody designed a godawful new badge when Lloyd was the owner, but don't quote me on that.
I'm pretty sure that our crest features a tiger rather than a lion though! ;-)

I don't know of one, I'm afraid. Beve 18:20, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hogan Ephraim

Stop editing this players details, Hogan's listed number of 27 is correct.

Yes there are 2 listed, this is deliberate, it is because BOTH are still listed as #27 by the club.

It is a club error, not a Wikipedia error, and will be resolved when squad numbers are released for the next season.

Knowles, Kedwell, O'Connor

Hi, I agree that the articles for Danny Kedwell, Aaron O'Connor might not have the status required for an article for non-league footballers.

Was wondering what status the player needs for it to be eligible? Is it just a league appearance? Jimbo online 15:02, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right thanks. How do I go about deleting an article? Is it just adding the following?
