Chongqing Medical University (CQMU; 重庆医科大学) formerly, Chongqing Medical College, was founded in 1956 in Chongqing, China. It was originally a branch of the Shanghai First Medical College (now called Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University ), and got its present name in 1985.

The main campus of CQMU occupies an area of 580,000 square meters. Buildings occupy an area of 780,000 square meters. The total assets of this university including teaching, scientific research and medical treatment amount to 634,940,000.00 RMB. This includes a library with more than 800,000 books. The university has acquired an area of 1,533,410 square meters for a second campus, the planning and preparation for the construction of the second campus has already commenced and some teaching already takes place on site as well. The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University

Established in 1957, The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University is a large general hospital which integrates clinical practice, teaching, research, prevention and health care, and in February 1994, it developed the Clinical Medical College of Chongqing Medical University on its base. The hospital is located on No.1 Friendship Road, Yuanjiagang, Yuzhong District, Chongqing City and is near the Olympic Games Centre, that encompasses nearly 127,000 m2 The hospital has become the largest general hospital of Chongqing city, with the most advanced equipments and technical resources after 50 years of evolution. It has 32 clinical departments, 6 medical technical departments and 2,000 beds. It receives about 1,000,000 outpatients, 40,000 inpatients and 50,000 emergency cases annually, and has a success rate of over 96% in rescue of critical patients. The hospital has a strong academically oriented faculty with a rich clinical experience. It has 90 professors and 243 associate professors, among whom 46 are tutors doctor, 153 are masters, 43 are experts enjoying government subsides, 24 are entitled or nominated as the first academic leaders of Chongqing City and 44 are appointed as directors or associate directors of the Chongqing Medical Association. The hospital is well equipped with the most advanced medical technologies. It has 64 Slice and 16 Slice Spiral CT Scanner, MRI, High Intensity Focusing Ultrasonic Therapy System (HIFU), Single Photon Emitter Computerized Tomography (SPECT), Innova Tabulate Detector, Digital Subtraction Angiography System (DSA), Linear Accelerator, Surgery Navigation System for Neurosurgery, Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber and a variety of endoscopes.

The hospital has 22 medical centers including Chongqing Organ Transplantation Centre, Chongqing Neurosurgery Centre, Chongqing Diabetes Mellitus Centre and so on. The Second Clinical College and Affiliated Hospital

Dr. Games. H. McCartney established the Second Clinical College and Affiliated Hospital (SCCAH), Chongqing Medical University (CQMU), on October 2, 1892, (then named Kuan Ren Hospital -- the Hospital of Benevolence). With a history of 110 years, SCCAH has developed into a modern teaching hospital covering modern medicine and medical research. It has a registered capacity of 805 beds, and is employing 1200 staffs, 86% of whom are medical specialists and 224 of whom are professors or associated professors. SCCAH runs 54 clinical and technical divisions or departments. Among them, the departments of Infectious Diseases and the Institute for Viral Hepatitis are the key components of the National Key Department of China for Infectious Diseases. Among the key departments of Chongqing are Gynecology and Obstetrics, General Surgery, Neuro-Medicine, Neuro-Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Digestive Medicine, Biomedical Engineering Geriatrics, Endocrinology and the Science of Metabolism. All of them are the nation's pioneers in clinical medicine and research and have developed 10 medical centers of Chongqing. The Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University

The Children's Hospital from Shanghai Medical University was established in 1956 and is affiliated with the Chongqing Medical University (CHCMU). It is one of the top pediatric hospitals as well as leading research and teaching institutions in China. The CHCMU was one of the first pediatric departments in China to offer MD and PhD programs and postdoctoral trainings. It received national excellent awards several times for its public health services. The CHCMU is a 800-bed pediatric hospital that has annual outpatient visits of over 900,000 and 30,000 inpatient. Among its 1242 faculty, the hospital has 180 faculties at ranks of full professor and associate professor. There are 21 PhD advisor faculty and 12 national recognized faculty members receive government allowance. Many faculty members are actively involved in Chinese national professional societies and hold leadership positions in Chinese Pediatric Societies within the Chinese Medical Association. As a comprehensive pediatric hospital, CHCMU is designated as the only one in the region that is qualified for providing medical care for foreign nationals. It is also the center under national network for pediatric critical care, asthma, laser applications, intensive care for newborns and premature babies. The hospital has 28 clinical divisions and departments that provide services ranging internal and surgical medicine, infection and digestion, critical care, ENT, stomatology, ophthalmology, stomatology, psychology. The Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology

The Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology, CQMU, has a total building size of 15,810m2, a staff of 299 people, of whom there are 32 with doctor or master degrees. Now there are 7 professors, 28 associate professors, 1 doctoral supervisor and 17 Master degree candidate's tutors. Hospital has 15 clinic and technological sections, 3 treatment centers. In the year of 2001, the hospital became the Stomatology Hospital Affiliated to the CQMU and the Department of Stomatology was established at the same time, under which 5 teaching sections of the Oral Medicine, the Oral and Maxilla-facial Surgery, the Prosthodontics, the Orthodontics, the Children's Dental Diseases and Preventive-Pedodontics were organized. The lab for the teaching of oral clinic technology was set up, which is among the first class of its kind in the country. The Hospital is authorized to tutor the graduate students and entitle them with master degree. Hospital has a great amount of dental-specialized equipments and facilities, which are advanced as the first class in the country, including 138 imported Chairs for Dental treatment, the Orthognathic Surgery Micromotivity Operation System, the Oral Endoscopic System, CR Video-tape System, Dental Pure-titanium Casting Unit and Dental Laser Seal Unit, etc. Besides, a central-controlled computer management system has been equipped. The hospital, one of the advanced in the comprehensive capability of dental health care in the country, with its excellent equipments and techniques, well accumulated experiences, noble morals has become an important stomatology base. The Hospital has set up the Sections of Oral Prevention, Orthodontics, Cosmetic Plastics and Oral Implant Center, and played a leading role in applying the new material of the baked-porcelain tooth and the new restorative techniques of adelomorphic artificial tooth and artificial implant tooth, which supplied the lack in Chongqing area at that time. Now, the hospital has successfully performed some key technological projects advanced in our country, such as reconstruction of mandibular large-scale defect with fibular free flap, micro-therapy of root canal, the modern orthodontic technique of Demon self-locking system, the maximal anchorage control technique of MIA (micro-implant anchorage), the bimaxillary osteotomy of orthognathic surgery to correct the jaw deformities and the restoration by oral implantation etc. During the period from 2002 to 2006, the Hospital has got 47 scientific research projects on different levels and the total fund along with them is as much as 3.2 million Yuan. 7 academic books on oral medicine and 160 essays have been published. The Hospital has won 3 Prizes of Science Research Achievements from the province, municipality and ministry respectively. It is planned that in 3-5 years, the Hospital will build itself into one general hospital with two branches and several community clinics. Hospital has strengthened academic exchange at home and abroad. Cooperation agreements have been reached with several University of Japan, France, England, and etc. there are more than 5 foreign professors or experts come to the hospital to give lectures every year and 8 foreign experts have been entitled to be visiting professors by the hospital.

Neurology, The university has the base of American College of Cardiology (ACC) Education Center in the First Affiliated Hospital. The university has 29 municipal key disciplines. In addition, it has two state key laboratories of Ministry of Education, one state key laboratory of Chongqing and Ministry of Education, one national engineering research center, 15 municipal key laboratories, 11 research institutes, 4 research centers and 20 research laboratories. 25 specialties are offered at the undergraduate level, mainly Clinical Medicine (Pediatrics, Reproductive Medicine, Rescue Medicine, General Practitioner), Oral Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Image Medicine, Anesthesia, Biomedical Engineering , Pharmacology, Nursing etc.

Foreign students come from USA, Canada, Korea, Taiwan, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, etc. The foreign students involve in many academic and extra curricular activities.
