Lei Han is a professor of cardiovascular medicine, doctoral supervisor (tutor of Ph.D. or Doctorate student) and the President of Chongqing Medical University.

Career

He got Bachelor’s Degree (MBBS) in clinical medicine from Chongqing Medical University in 1982, and got Master’s Degree (MD) in cardiovascular medicine in 1987.

From 1992 to 1997 he studied abroad in Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) of Harvard University in the United States of America.

From 1996 to 2004, he was successively appointed Vice-president and Dean of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University.

In 2004, he was appointed as the president of the Chongiqng Medical University and Deputy Secretary of the party committee. He was devoted in clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research work in cardiovascular medicine department for over 20 years. He is very rich in clinical experience and exquisite medical technology. He is expert in general treatment and interventional therapy of cardiovascular diseases. He successively accomplished scientific research projects like National Natural Science Foundation, National Ministry of Education “Higher School Teachers Aid Program” Project, Doctoral Education Fund of the Ministry of Education, Natural Science Foundation of Chongqing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission Project, the Chongqing Municipal Public Health Bureau Multi-level Research Project. Over 60 papers and over 6 monographs were published in major national and international journals.

From 1996 to 2006 he trained 23 graduates, including 11 doctoral students, 12 Master’s Degree (MD) students (2 foreign students). He was honored with "Outstanding Young Expert" award by the National Ministry of Health and with "Special Government Allowances" winner by the State Council.

He is the Chairman of the Committee of Cardiovascular Experts and the Chongqing Branch of the National Committee of China Society of Biomedical Engineering Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology, Vice-President of the Chongqing Medical Association and Chongqing College of Biomedical Engineering, Chairman of Cardiac Pacing and Cardiac Arrhythmia Professionals Committee, Judge of the National Natural Science Foundation Committee, Editorial Member of the Chinese Journal “The Cardiac Arrhythmia” and over 40 other posts.

Cardiology department of the First Affiliated Hospital was founded in 1958, later the famous cardiovascular expert Lin Qi, Chen Yunzhen, led by Professor Lei Han, gradually established the academic and professional reputation and status of cardiology department of the First Affiliated Hospital of the Chongqing Medical University to National level.

Recent Work

Due to the consistent effort of Prof. Lei Han in clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research work in cardiovascular medicine and various achievements made in cardiovascular field in his leadership, the First Affiliated Hospital has been selected as one of the 65 ACC Education Centers in China and the only one in Chongqing municipality that has received the qualification. On August 25, 2010, the opening ceremony of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Education Center was held in the First Affiliated Hospital of the Chongqing Medical University in his leadership. During the ceremony Prof. Lei Han (President of Chongqing Medical University) said that the relationship of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University with the ACC will have 3 significant advantages:

1. High level of academic exchanges and training activities with world’s top international academic exchange platform. 2. Develop social responsibility, most advanced academic thinking and clinical practices. 3. Improve the level of public education, and improve the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Namely “3 things” are very important, they are: public awareness, treatment and control and public participation in heart disease prevention.

Considering the contributions made and reforms brought by Prof. Lei Han in the cardiovascular field in Chongqing Medical University and in Chongqing Municipality to give hope to the people of Chongqing, one can’t deny the fact that he is a “Hero” for the people of Chongqing. Now, he is aimed to uplift the cardiovascular medicine level of Chongqing to International level by working together with American College of Cardiology (ACC) and to build the Chongqing Municipality as the heart of China in cardiovascular field.
