Hüseyin Avni Bey

Lt. Colonel (in Turkish, Yarbay) Huseyin Avni bey was born at Bitola (in Turkish, Manastir) in today's Macedonia. His father was a District Governor (in Turkish, Kaymakam).

He was the commander of the 57th Infantry Regiment Ottoman in Gallipoli. As he was made the commander of 57th Regiment he was a Major (in Turkish, Binbasi). The regiment was training at Rodosto (in Turkish, Tekirdag). They received orders to transfer to Gallipoli. On February 24th the Regiment arrived to Maydos with a steamship. After the battles of April 25-28th 1915 he was made Lt.Col. On August 13th 1915 he was killed by a bomb shell which hit his command post.

His uniform is presented in the Military Museum (in Turkish, Askeri Muze) in Istanbul. His family got the surmane “Ariburun” after the new social reforms of Turkish Republic. His son Tekin Ariburun entered to Military School and graduated in 1925 as infantry leutenant. In December 7th he joined to the air force. On May 1969 he was made Commander of Turkish Air Force. He retired after the miliatry coup on June 3rd 196o. He candidated to Turkish Presidency but lost.
