A short break

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW...the picture from OCONTO, WI was NOT DOWNTOWN.... just a pic from the highway... you may want to edit that!!!! -JC

Hi- I will be taking a short break. I feel a litte discourage with some recent edits. One of them was with Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of the Lincoln, Nebraska diocese. Someone put in what I thought was vandalism a paragraph about the sexual abuse scandal & with no citation added at all. Also I reverted changes in the Medford, Wisconsin article about notable people and got reverted. I just found out I was personally attack back in May of 2007 regarding the Medford, WI article. Consequently, I will be taking a short break. Besides, I have some things pertaing to my alma mater my high school this winter.I probably will come back after Monday January 28, 2008. Please send my greetings to the crew at WikiProject Wisconsin especially Users:OrangeMike and Merenta who edits the Waukesha related articles. Most likely I may will return sooner then Monday. Many thanks for your kindness and understanding.RFD (talk) 13:52, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted both and given warnings to each of the other parties. The other editor on the Medford, Wisconsin article appears to be doing vanity edits. I didn't see any good edits from the account, and I saw several uncivil comments, so I gave a final warning. The edits to the Bruskewitz clearly violate WP:BLP since they are unsourced and very controversial, so I reverted them. Royalbroil 15:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for your help and kindness. RFD (talk) 16:43, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I did not stay away from Wikipedia too long as you can tell. Enjoy the trivia contest in Appleton. I still have Founders Day involving my alma mater Aquinas HS in La Crosse this weekend. I will not be doing too much with Wikipedia during that time.Thanks-RFD (talk) 13:49, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! We were in 34th place at the first checkin at 3:00am, 5 hours into it. I got 4.5 hours of sleep last night. Royalbroil 13:54, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Founders Day at Aquinas HS went well. I started an article about John Catlin. He was acting governor of the Wisconsin territory that was not part of Wisconsin when it was admitted to the union on May 29, 1848. I can not stay away from Wikipedia too long. Fair use rationale for Image:NASCAR99CoverArt.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NASCAR99CoverArt.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 14:34, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't mess with fair use anymore, so I removed it from the article so it can be deleted easier. Royalbroil 14:50, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks!

Hey Royalbroil, I just wanted to say thank you for your kind words and support in my RFA. I was taken back the amount of support I received and will work hard to live up to those expectations. I look forward to working with you in the future, and if you ever need anything, feel free to come and ask!! I hope all is going well.

I have 30 hours left in a 50 hour wikibreak while doing a trivia contest. I haven't picked DYK hooks for several days and I won't be doing any for 2 days. I put in my opinion in favor if it gets a minor change on the suggestions page. With it being already 2 days past, I doubt it would be selected. I notice that User:BorgQueen has been updating a lot this past week. Maybe that's who you should talk to. Royalbroil 23:39, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

AWB

Several times I have found my watchlist glowing with your edits related to combining the various Christian music WikiProjects into one. You should consider getting an Auto Wiki Browser to automate this process. You should easily be here long enough to meet the requirements. You shouldn't need to have anyone vouch for you, but I would if you need it. Royalbroil 21:32, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks I haven't had a chance to really research AWB yet. Since most of the major project edits are done I probably won't be doing a lot of heavy lifting like that for a while. If something else comes up I'll look deeper into it. Thanks again. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 10:57, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Importance Ratings

My only concern is that your rating system is a bit too bottom heavy. Perhaps combine the top two categories into Top Importance, move Mid up to High, and add in a Mid category for extremely important aspects within one of our areas, such as famous bands, or whatever, and let the low importance stuff include the less important bands. I don't think it's right for a band like dc talk or Jars of Clay to be rated as low importance, when it's going to be getting a lot more traffic than a band like Blaster the Rocket Man, and therefore needs to be of a higher quality. -- PEPSI2786talk 03:42, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would put dc talk and Jars of Clay both at "High" importance because they are well known even to mainstream audiences (especially Jars of Clay). Royalbroil 03:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I moved the discussion to the Project's discussion page. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 10:57, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image

Thanks for deleting it - I just screwed up naming it when I uploaded it from Commons (only my second time updating DYK to the the Main Page and the first time the image was on WP, so I just protected it then). The Archives DYK links to the correct (Commons) version of the image, so it should be fine.

Thanks for doing the DYK update - I saw it was overdue, but had no time to do the notifications (though I would have had time just to copy to the main template and purge the cache). Has there ever been discussion of having a bot do the notices (perhaps with the name of the admin who did the Update given, in case there were questions)? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Having bots to update the template were proposed several times, with the last time here. I don't remember reading a proposal that a bot would do the notifications. It sounds like a good concept. Royalbroil 15:14, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the link. I will try and bring it up on the DYK talk in a day or two, along with the idea to have a "DYK update how to guide" for inexperienced admins - perhaps if there was a clear guide, more admins would help. I also think it would be a place to put information like the script from Lar, and whatever other time saving ideas/tricks people have. Thanks again, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:42, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fond du Lac, Wisconsin

The sentence should be sourced or else be removed. I don't watch that much television and with most of the movies, television shows, sports, etc. I am not familiar with most of them. Semi-protection of the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin is in order-this is an edit war going on. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 14:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I look at the Point Place article that this is based upon. The article also claims Kenosha, Wisconsin as well. There was a tag that the Point Place article is from mainly one source and needs to be rewritten with more then one source. Therefore, to resolve the Fond du Lac article edit problems, attention has to be given to the Point Place article as well. Incidentally, I never heard of Point Place until now. Thank you-RFD (talk) 14:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I was glad to help out. The Point Place website mentions the program is based upon Green Bay, Wisconsin but it could anywhere in Wisconsin. Whoever, put that in in the Fond du Lac article thought it was that city. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 15:03, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Copy edit swap

Hi Royalbroil, That sounds great! I'm stepping out right now, but I'll get to it when I return in a few hours. Cheers, -- twelsht (talk) 18:14, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

For now, I made a few minor edits, some of which (as it turned out) echoed comments in the archived PR. The piece seems quite comprehensive, but it could benefit from the introduction of a "Personal life" section. It sounds as though Kulwicki was absorbed by his work and had few close friends. Still, information about his relationship with family members, etc., would help to humanize him. Given that Kulwicki was widely identified as Polish American, I was surprised that there were few references to his ethnic background in the article. Perhaps you should at least mention that his parents (or one of them) were of Polish origin. I will be away from the computer for a couple days because of an unforeseen development. But I'll be more than happy to write a review on Monday. Cheers, -- twelsht (talk) 04:15, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Your characterization of him as being absorbed by his work and having few close friends is exactly right. That's exactly what he was known for: quiet, studious, loner, laughed at by some of the other drivers. I don't want to say bad things about him in his article. That's why there's no "personal life" section. He was known for not dating because he didn't find women up to his standards. His mother and brother died when he was young, so he only had his father who either lived on the road or was working at the shop. His father was very well-known in the state and region for building awesome engines so I'm sure that he was contantly working.
Kulwicki greatly changed NASCAR - it used to be a family sport and now it extremely businesslike with long days and living to work (vs. working to live). I wouldn't say that he was widely known as a Polish American, but it only came up at times during life, like the article conveys. I added that his city was known as a Polish American city. I don't know about Kulwicki's father heritage and stated that we was buried in his mother's family plot like other Polish Americans. Royalbroil 00:45, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Royalbroil, Thanks for your comments on Jack Warner! I haven't had a chance to look at them closely, but all of them appeared to be constructive and actionable. As you suggested, it may be possible to locate a free use image of Warner as a studio exec, given that his career traces back to 1918. I'll act on your recommendations this evening. For now, I printed up a copy of Alan Kulwicki (it's easier for me to review the hard copy of an article). I'll be ready with some comments later today. Cheers, -- twelsht (talk) 16:29, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

IROC project

One other possibility regarding what to do with the above project comes to mind, although you might not find it a particularly good one.

I am not myself a particular fan of motorsports, so I don't know how many if any other defunct racing organizations are out there. If there are many or even any others, then it might not be a bad idea to propose that they be included within the scope of the reorganized group as well. Also, and this is very much something with which reasonable people could disagree, it might be worthwhile to perhaps consider setting it up as a joint subproject with Wikipedia:WikiProject History. For what little it might be worth, I have personally gotten the definite impression that the average editor, or even average project, gives at best secondary consideration to content relating to historical matters, and the same might be true of the motorsport project as well. If that is the case, then the content might get a bit more focused attention as a subproject of a group which is specifically devoted to historical matters. Anyway, just an idea. Re-wording

Yep - but it'll probably be Monday as I'm busy today. Will leave my comments here. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 09:34, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is there a designated 'Polish-American' section of the cemetary? If so, how about:"Kulwicki was buried in the family plot in the Polish-American area of the Saint Adalbert Cemetery in Milwaukee." If there is not a designated area, how about: "Kulwicki was buried in the family plot at the Saint Adalbert Cemetery in Milwaukee, in an area where there are many Polish-American graves." The latter is a bit clumsy, and also requires you have a source for the fact that the other graves are Polish-American. How does one identify a Polish-American grave? I'll come back to this later, but let me know what you think of those two. 4u1e (talk) 17:29, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I like the second option better. It didn't appear to be an official Polish-American section, but the section was different. The rest of the cemetery has one stone to mark the person that's buried there. Several stones in that Polish American section had the name of the family written in large letters on a large stone, with the family member's names written in small letters along the base of the stone. Here's the full picture of the family gravestone. Do you think that this topic is important enough to spend time on? I don't think it's worth much time. Royalbroil 01:12, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Advice wanted

Hey Royalbroil! I wanted to ask you a question about what to do with images that are potentially violating Wikipedia copyright rules. Recently a new user, Hellcat854, uploaded and added images to the Kutless and Flyleaf articles. There's no description or copyright information on either image. While I haven't actually searched around for copyright info on those pictures, I've seen them all over the web quite a few times (especially the Kutless one), and they seem professional; so I'm suspecting they're copyrighted. I've already talked with the user who uploaded them, requesting more info about the images, but they haven't returned since then.

I've never quite dealt with this type of thing before, and neither have I really observed what happens in a case like this, so I wanted to ask someone with more experience what to do and where to go next with this. Do we try to get copyright info on the pictures, then flag them for deletion if sufficient information is gathered? Yahoo! Fantasy Sports

Page has been nominated. Please go to the articles for deletion page to enter the discussion. -UWMSports (talk) 19:03, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I agree with your points on the discussion in keeping the article. I think keeping a list that shows the start/end dates is relevant. The fifth year of something is meaningless, but the start and end certainly is meaningful. If you want, we can fix up that page together over the next couple days. My main concern right now is SportsMaster's attitude. You've been defending him and he doesn't even reply to your comments. I really don't want to contribute to it if he keeps reverting our edits.-UWMSports (talk) 20:36, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
UWM is a college sports program. There are millions of usernames that say "YankeesFan" or "GoIrish". -UWMSports (talk) 20:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm defending the need for having that article, not SportsMaster's edits or attitude. Contributors generally don't mess around real long with someone who doesn't work well with others before they get frustrated like you are right now. Let it go, it will pass. I recommend that you stop watching his contributions. Others will eventually see his edits and deal with them if they're bad. It's very frustrating to spend time working on an article just for someone to delete it.
I hope that many people want to improve the article! If a few people spend a half hour on it it will turn into a great article! Royalbroil 21:02, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Lets merge Yahoo! Fantasy Sports and Yahoo! Sports together. Both need alot of work, I think together they can help each other out greatly. -UWMSports (talk) 00:22, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I respectfully disagree. I think that enough information could be found to make a decent article. Royalbroil 01:10, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, lets see what happens over the next week or so. If I'm proven wrong then I will tip my hat to you guys. Both pages have been around way over a year though, but hopefully something can be done with them. -UWMSports (talk) 03:27, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I apologize if it wasn't written clearly. But to say it doesn't look any less than an advertisement than something else falls under WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS. However, no decision was reached on its suggested deletion. I say we merge the article without getting everyone involved again if no one upgrades the article from its current state the next few days. -UWMSports (talk) 17:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Caroline Ingalls/Dismont Cryteer

Hi- I had to revert some edits to the Caroline Ingalls articles on grounds of vandalism and a possible hoax. An editor started an article about Dismont Cryterr who supposedly married Caroline Ingalls after the death of Charles Ingalls. They were the parents of Laura Ingalls Wilder. I did a google search of Dismont Cryterr and came up with no information.I am trying to assume good faith and not to bite new editors but I personally feel Dismont Cryterr does not exist and this is a hoax or experiment being done. Racing in Illinois

Actually, I think the way you have it is closer to what Wiki should be. I really didn't have any "historic" information in the "History" section. If I can do enough digging, I might be able to come up with the beginnings of racing in Illinois, which would make a "History" section needed.

If you do the Racing in Wisconsin article, remember that CORR and SODA both started there, and that the WSORR is now the prevalant off road racing sanctioning body in the area. Jgrace1294 (talk) 20:29, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yea, I went to one or two SODA race at Road America. I love off-road racing. One of my short to medium-term goals is create article about the big CORR and SODA racers. Hi, sorry about editing the talk page while you were doing your review on this article. I didn't realize you were adding any more right away. Anyhow, I hope you don't mind that I've been working on your concerns while you're doing the review. I just happened to have some free time tonight. As for the article, I think I've overdone the "out of universe" thing in some areas, as this was the first wrestling biography article I've written, so your suggestions on how to fix awkward phrases are greatly appreciated. Thanks for offering to do the review. GaryColemanFan (talk) 03:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again for the review. I believe I've fixed everything from your list except the hall of fame thing. As I explain on the article's talk page, the SLAM! Wrestling Canadian Hall of Fame isn't a real hall of fame so much as the name of a website. Please let me know if anything else needs fixing. Best wishes, GaryColemanFan (talk) 06:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've made all of the new changes you requested. The reason that the Yukon Lumberjacks thing didn't make sense is because it's not true. They were inspired by a different Yukon Eric, so I changed the information. Please let me know if there's anything else that needs to be done. Thanks againn, GaryColemanFan (talk) 16:23, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
My intention wasn't to annoy anyone. I had discussed an idea with another editor about trying to make a focused effort to reduce the backlog by asking each of the sports projects to review two articles. If you think this will just come across as unwanted spam, I am willing to remove the requests. GaryColemanFan (talk) 19:20, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry about the misunderstanding. I would love to see the backlog reduced, so I really appreciate editors like you offering to review articles. Adoption

I was wondering if you would be able to adopt met as a user on Wikipedia. I used to edit Wikipedia anomlysly and just began with a user name. I have noticed that I don't know too much about the technicality of Wikipedia and a lot of the "in-site concepts." I noticed you were an administator, so you have been around here a while now and know what Wikipedia is about. If you are unable to for any reason that is fine, and I could have someone elese (another administrator) that may adopt me as a user on Wikipedia. Thanks for reading my message.

--Tlayden (talk) 19:49, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Problem

I have been seeing people talk behind my back about me. Mostly about my adoption program. I would like you to check User talk:Toddst1. You'll notice it around the bottom. I would like your opinion.--RyRy5 talk 06:56, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for answering. That edit was a mistake, and I'm sorry if it caused any trouble. I thought is was a page blanking with a nonsense edit summary.
When I siad "Until I am an Admin", that only meant if I could ask her once more for adoption when I'm an admin with more experience. I looked at my archive and I didn't know that she sent me a message, telling me she doesn't want to talk to me again. It was probably becuase Queerbubbles and another person sent me 2 messages in a few minutes. One was at the bottum and the other, a few messages up. I then must have only read the bottom message. That's why I always check the history of my talk page to see if anybody but who sent me the bottom message sent me another one.
I have 5 adoptees. One has been inactive for a long time (User:Tubesurfer). The adoption program is when I give my adoptees tests, and if possible, I also let an admin grade them. This helps my adoptees study more while taking tests. I would like your opinion on the Adoption Program. Thanks.--RyRy5 talk 17:06, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

To all of the excellent editors who were part of the Karanacs-led collaboration to bring Ima Hogg to featured status, it was a pleasure working with you on such a fine article about a great lady. Thank you so much for your contribution to this fun collaboration.

And that is why I prefer working on historical topics! Thanks for the offer of making required changes to the article while it is locked. If it's OK with you, I'll copy Laserbrain and Tony's comments from the failed FAC to the talk page and put comments or suggested fixes there. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 08:24, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK, no worries. We can work out what the changes should be at least. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 16:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it's useful stuff and worth going through the exercises. Maybe I should do them again too! :) 4u1e (talk) 17:28, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

April Fool's Day DYK

Hi, Royalbroil. You seemed very involved in evaluating candidates for the April 1st DYK section--and I saw some funny ideas being tossed around. I had a look at the main page, none of the current DYK's look terribly odd/funny/unusual. Am I missing the joke, is the update delayed, or did someone decide not to be funny this year? —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talkcontribs)

My WiFi internet connection has been almost constantly down because of rain. I bet that the first group had not cycled in yet. I am surprised that the group included exclusively April Fool's Day hooks instead of spreading them out over the day. I should have been notified about the Alien abduction insurance article that I started. Royalbroil 03:22, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well at least they're up now. Nicely done (the JFK line is my favorite)!--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 03:29, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks - and thanks for all of your hard work on this. My guess is that I can find more odd things on the NRHP for next year's April Fools, and the West Rim Trail was an idea I sat on for almost a year (thought of it April 1 last year). I enjoyed your alien abduction insurance hook a lot. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:10, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Excellent idea for next year. Thanks for the recognition and I'm glad that you enjoyed the hook! Royalbroil 14:15, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alan Kulwicki review

I will get a review up for it this week. I have been having to deal with some family issues lately. Hope you understand and sorry for me holding it off.

--Tlayden (talk) 18:42, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry if I caused any problems for you with the review. I was new to Wikipedia at the time and had no clue that there was a process involved for review. I looked at a few articles to review and it caught my attention, so along on other reviews I just COMMENTED on it. While I agree that the person who calls it should get it (the article), experience on Wikipedia is not a major factor in being able to review something for that matter....Have Zenlax review the article.

North Wilkesboro Speedway

Yes I am very interested in North Wilkesboro Speedway, in fact I am the web designer for the company Save The Speedway that is documenting all the history at the track and is placing the historical marker for the track in May. To answer your question on if the track is accessible, Yes it is. If there is a way I can contact you my private email I could give you more information. Also in our collection of photos and images Save The Speedway has more the 1000 photos and images, as well as video and program covers that have been given to us with expressed permission to use. I will try and get some of the photos together and put them on the page for other to see. Feel free to contact me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swilson2000 (talkcontribs) 18:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the response - I just thought I'd offer it up, in case you were planning to get a third round in. I thought the fact was more bizarre than funny, but there are plenty of straight facts of interest. I may well nominate it for the ordinary front page. Warofdreams talk_

Garbage

Removed unsourced lines for now. Ultra! 16:33, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I saw that. That's a good idea, they don't seem very important. I'd read through the article to improve it, but I want the article to be stable. I hope that I'm interpreting the stability criteria right. Royalbroil 19:40, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

April Fools' Main Page

Hi, I noticed you are archiving some of this year's discussion. Thanks for that! Do you think you might be able to also create archived versions of the AFMP? I think someone did so for last year but this years is now gone, near as I can tell. Unless I was looking in the wrong place. I'm thinking that since this is now a 3 year old tradition, an archive structure that didn't just use the standard archive box might be better ... some sort of embedded template that all the talk pages carry that shows, by year, the main page, the main page talk, the DYK talk pate, the FA talk page, etc. It might be a bit much to do but might also avoid some rediscovery/reinvention each year. I noticed this because my blog link to yesterday's main page is already stale and I was trying to find what to link to... what do you think? ++Lar: t/c 18:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good idea. I'll look into it. I did some archiving last year, so I did the same thing this year. So 2008 was the third year (2006, 2007, 2008). I didn't know that. I made a checklist for myself below, feel free to expand. Royalbroil 19:51, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
K! Did. Thx. ++Lar: t/c 21:55, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

To Do

  • Fix the links so that someone can easily navigate between the each year's various (2007, etc.) talk pages (links are currently wrong)
    • Really fancy: make it a nav box so you can embed it in many places and nav from 2006 DYK to 2007 DYK to 2008 FA in one click.

  Done

  • Make an archive box template specific for April Fool's Day that links all of the archives
    • Really fancy, takes into account that there is a tree structure to the pages where DYK and FA are sub pages of the overall page...

  Done

  • Create static versions of the 2 main pages from 2006, 2007, 2008 (both) (if not already done) and include link to them in the archive box.
    • 2 main pages? you mean having statics for how the DYK changed (I know in 2008 there was at least one change in the DYK articles, maybe more, and seeing all of them is goodness, if doable)

Done (poorly worded on my part)

  • Research 2005. SOMETHING was done on the main page more than just out and out vandalism, but I forget what, and the structure there may make it hard to find.

  Done

  • regularize the names and locations (subpages) of things where they deviate a bit)

  Done

  • pat self on back for a good job :)

  Done   Done   Done

Kulwicki GA

Well done. Regarding FA, you'll have gathered that you'll need a copyediting specialist to look over it. Try the WP:PRV page for volunteers (not me though, I'm too close to the topic, and obviously not yet up to Tony1's high standards!). Regarding refs, I think you'll have some work to do. Especially now that Ealdgyth tends to check all weblinks and question whether they're reliable. The major websites (NASCAR.com NYT etc) are all fine, obviously. There are some that are reproductions of good sources, but by sites that we don't know are reliable in themselves (I'm thinking of ones like 2, 4, 14, 23 (duplicate of 2?)). That means that strictly they don't count as reliable sources. There are also some broken links (already!) Nos. 11, 17, 18, 19. You may be able to find a cached copy or look on the Internet Archive. The underbird.com site looks like a fan site, which is tricky because it's self-published. You might perhaps argue that in this particular case, it's appropriate. You may also be asked whether sites like Ultimate racing results, Racing reference info and Laidback racing.com are reliable, so have your answer ready! Sorry to bring more work! 4u1e (talk) 18:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Redlinks: You tend not to see many. A few redlinks shouldn't really be a barrier to GA or even FA (I don't think it's in the criteria for either), provided that they're to things that really should have an article on Wikipedia (meeting notability criteria and all that stuff). If there are loads I think it would put reviewers off. 4u1e (talk) 06:51, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Quick question

Since you are now and administrator (Congrats on the Kulwicki GA. I assisted you courtesy of the Hooters magazine article on the 25th annivesery of the company earlier this year), I have a quick question. If you click on the Luis Palau article, you will see two pictures. The second one is the one I am interested in since I took it and uploaded it last September. An anonyous user from Australia is claiming I have a possible copyright violation because I took the picture from the Jumbotron used at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. I have explained that I was not able to get close enough to Palau to take the picture so taking it on the Jumbotron was the next best option. How can a free use image be classified as a copyright violation? I don't get it. Chris (talk) 20:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I did what you said. I hate that because I thought it was a good picture to where I could present the picture. Oh well. Try again when he shows up in Conyers on Labor Day weekend again. This time I will make certain to get a better shot if possible minus the Jumbotron. Chris (talk) 03:04, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I also did it to another picture I took: Natalie Grant which I took at the same location in September. Chris (talk) 19:15, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kulwicki GA

Congratulations on the article becoming recognized as Good. I know you put a lot of work into that. I just looked at it, and there are parts I don't recognize, so you put even more hard work into it! And I didn't realize you'd become an admin, so congrats on that too!. -Freekee (talk) 02:21, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: next dyk

Thanks! I was hoping someone would comment on that one eventually, since it's the only hook for the 31st of march and 1st of april that still had a decent picture, but I didn't want to put something I wrote myself on the page without someone at least commenting on it. Now I can finish the update with a peace of mind. - Bobet 00:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. And thanks for uploading the image for me. - Bobet 00:48, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Woodlands Resort (A7)

Dear Royalbroil,

Just wondering why The Woodlands Resort information was deleted based on A7 when many other hotel and resorts appear on Wikipedia?

The Woodlands,Texas wikipedia page has a link to The Woodlands Resort wikipedia page but no information appears on the resort. I'm trying to correct that by contributing information but it was deleted.

Your insight is appreciated. Bkaplan (talk) 16:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

DYK writeup

Thanks, Royal; I added that over on WP:FCDW so we can schedule it in, still unsure what we're doing on the 14th. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:32, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

RE: Alan Kulwicki

My advice to you would be to get a second opinion on the article's status for it becoming a Feature article. I would give opinions on it, but I am terribly busy and don't have time to give you the correct standards for the article being qualified for Feature article. Zenlax T C S 20:05, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem, I was hoping that you would do it while you were reviewing against GA. I have run the article past numerous people. I just need an English wordsmith expert to review the prose. Royalbroil 02:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

re: The Woodlands Resort

RoyalBroil,

Thanks for the feedback.

Now that the page has been deleted, what is the next step? Do I just start over add more information about the resort (and what makes it notable with references)?

Your help is appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bkaplan (talkcontribs) 20:56, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

UCLA digital library program images

Roybalbroil

Sorry to see that the LA Times images were deleted and my apologies for completely disappearing from the discussion at the end of Feb. I went out on medical leave and returned to work this week.

To fill in the gaps, LA Times transferred the copyrights to UCLA; for negatives the university physically has in its possession. I was hoping that our legal counsel could work out a way with Wikipedia policies to keep the images up. I believe UCLA counsel and others in the UC system are continuing to research ways to contribute material to Wikipedia.

My Thanks to you, Anderson and Evrik for the help and discussion.

Frustrated

There is nothing wrong with making friends on wikipedia so that I can feel more comfortable in becoming active and knowledgeable. If there is anything wrong with this, then please tell me and explain in detail why it is wrong to make friends in order to become a better wiki user.
