Creation

The Daily Jubba was established on 26th February 2021.

News profile

The outlet mainly reports on news and developments in Somalia as well the wider Horn of Africa countries (Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea). Areas of interest include current affairs, security developments, military movements, political and diplomatic happenings, art and humanitarian affairs.

Reliability

The Daily Jubba has broken several newsworthy developments in the past, all of which was later corroborated by major news publications in the local as well as international media. It has also reported obscure announcements made on unorthodox communication lines like key government minsters addressing Clubhouse listeners about noteworthy government projects, an overlooked gaff in a politician’s speech or the late press conferences made in the late hours of the night as is the case in Somalia sometimes. When comparisons were made between events unfolding in Afghanistan and Somalia, the Daily Jubba sought to show the clear distinction between the countries in a much circulated excellently written piece*. There are reports of influential Somali leaders sharing the Daily Jubba articles and its analysis/op-editorials, key government ministers, opposition figures, members of the national news agency and several communication strategists are regular readers of the Daily Jubba.

The outlet has been featured on Jeune Afrique, the French pan-African weekly news magazine that also runs the monthly Africa Report in English. It is the oldest and most read pan-African magazine in the western world, Jeune Afrique also runs a printing press and maintains a news website hence their citation and use of the Daily Jubba reporting of the Francophone country of Djibouti. The site also features a much talked about op-ed written by Kristine Pearson, an American Social Entrepreneur who has travelled to many African countries but was particularly mesmerized by Somalia.

Audience

After 9 months of continuously gracing Somali and East African screens, the Daily Jubba readership grows by the day and already boasts of a Facebook following of over 31,960 followers and a Twitter following of 22,220 followers. With its current pace the Daily Jubba could be among the most read sites in Somalia if not the most read site already.
