Herman Webster Mudgett was known as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes. Holmes was born on May 16,1861 in a small village of Gilmanton, New Hampshire.His parents were Levi Horton Mudgett and Theodate Page Price. His dad was a postmaster.And his mom was stayed at home.They both were the first European settlers in the area. Holmes was his parent's third child born.He had an older sister named named Ellen and an older brother Arthur,and a younger brother named Henry.His father was a farmer from a farming family.His family were devout Methodists. Holmes's dad was abusive after he'd been drinking,which was often.
On July 4,1878 Holmes married Clara Lovering in July 8,1878.They later divorced in 1891.But,while he was married to Lovering he was seeing Myrta Belknap;they married in January 8,1887 they also divorced in the same year.They had a daughter named Lucy.He married his third wife in January 9,1894.
Holmes went to high school at Gilmanton Academy in New Hampshire.He later went to University of Vermont.He also attended medical school, at the University of Michigan Medical School, in Ann Arbor.Holmes was expelled in 1884.Starting a life of bad behavior, he stole a horse in Texas. Holmes committed insurance fraud in Philadelphia on June 1895.
The place where Holmes killed his victims was called the Murder Castle. Fifty people were reported missing to the police.The police were the ones who enter the home.The first floor of the building contained stores, and shops.The upper floors could be used for spacious living areas.His office was on the second floor,but the rest of the rooms were to be used for quests. If there were guests,as they would not be sen again. Later, evidence showed that Holmes used the other rooms"asphyxiation chambers." Holmes killed twenty-seven thousand people.Most of his victims and were blonde.
When Holmes was in prison in Philadelphia, the police went to Chicago to search the house.The police went through the whole house to find evidence that the people that Holmes killed were actually there and to find the weapons that Holmes used to killed the people. Holmes had six counts of murder on him. After Holmes was convicted he hung himself in the jail cell.
