Keep as much skin covered as possible. Midges can bite through thin layers of clothing. Try not to stay in one place longer than necessary.
Various [[insect repellent]]s such as [[DEET]] can be used against midges. [[Bog myrtle]] is a popular herbal alternative.
Many say that the proprietary anti-mosquito type sprays are not much use in fighting off midges, and alternative deterrents such as Avon Skin So Soft bath oil (applied as per instructions on pack) or Marmite (eaten daily, it seems to act as a systemic deterrent) being favoured by some.
