Julie Anne Peñaflorida San Jose was born on May 17, 1994, the eldest of three children of Marivic Camzon Peñaflorida and Jonathan Roque San Jose. She started singing at the age of two. In 1997, she placed first-runner up in the ''Little Miss Philippines'' competition on ''[[Eat Bulaga!]]''
 
In 2005, San Jose competed on the reality television show ''[[Popstar Kids]]''. The following year, she became a member of the singing group [[Sugarpop]].
