Dublin
Dublin is the capital of Ireland, famous for its easy-going charm and bars filled with live music and happy Dubliners. In recent years it has become a tech hub of Europe and been home to the European Headquarters of almost every large technology company on the globe, including Google, Hubspot, Intel, Microsoft and Apple.
History
Dublin is steeped in history, starting when the Vikings settled there in the 9th century. The Norman occupation in the 10th century and later English rule have also provided Dublin with a rich, varied culture.
The city has produced a host of famous people from writers like James Joyce, Oscar Wilde to the infamous rock band U2 and Thin Lizzy. It has also been a backdrop to many films such as ‘My Left Foot’, Into the West and The Commitments to name but a few.
Attractions
From the famous Dublin Castle and historic sites to The National Museum, Art Galleries and cultural centres. City parks include Europes largest park, the impressive Phoenix Park which hosts Dublin Zoo. Three of Ireland’s historic universities are also based in Dublin, meaning it is a lively and multicultural city with a varied nightlife on offer.
Dublin is a city with two distinct sides divided by the River Liffey. The Northside is home to shopping centres, markets, museums, theatres, Croke Park Stadium and Phoenix Park. In contrast, Southside, you will find the trendy Temple Bar district with cobbled streets, galleries and nightlife. There is a whole host of traditional pubs, eateries, quaint bars, music venues and souvenir shops, which provide a lively atmosphere day and night. Most cultural institutions, from the Irish Photography Centre to the Temple Bar Music Centre, are also found here. Lets not also forget that Dublin brews over 10 million pints of Guinness every year – history at it’s very best.

About DCU Business School
DCU Business School is a multi-campus university occupying approx 60 hectares just north of Dublin City Centre. It is situated on the Northside of the City, 6km from Dublin City Centre and 8km from Dublin Airport.
DCU Business School is in the top 200 business schools worldwide. On 19-20 October, it will welcome 300 WordPress enthusiasts for WordCamp Dublin 2019!

Our host, The Business School is part of the Dublin City University.
In 1989, DCU was awarded university status, since then it has had over 50,000 Graduates, many of whom have gone on to hold major roles in the global IT, Enterprise and Business industries. In 2017 a record 6000 students applied to the CAO, The Central Applications Office (CAO) processes applications for undergraduate courses in Irish Higher Education Institutions, with DCU selected as their first choice. DCU has twice been named as the Sunday Times ‘University of the year’
It was the first university in Ireland to introduce work placements (Intra) as part of its degree programmes. Now, almost 70% of students take part in Intra work placement or study abroad. DCU was the first university in Ireland to offer academic credits for extra-curricular activities by offering undergraduate students to participate in the DCU Uaneen module.
In 2017, Dublin City University received the Athena Swan Bronze Award for gender equality. Over 700 Primary & Secondary school teachers graduate from DCU Institute of Education every year. DCU is home to Ireland’s largest arts centre. The Helix hosts a wide range of musical, theatrical and dance performances to suit every taste.
After-Party Location
Sometime after the last talk on Saturday, we would like to invite all attendees to an amazing Odeon Bar for the after-party. We are returning to the same place the same as in 2017 for even more great fun.
They have a wheelchair ramp onsite which is put out based on the arrival of guests. And there is an accessible bathroom close to the area which we reserved for this evening. We would love all of you to come.
