Washington Square Park is one of the best-known of New York City's 1,700 public parks. History

In late 1988, Dream of the Endless reunited with his older sister Death in Washington Square Park. While the two discussed Dream's seventy-plus years of imprisonment at the hands of the Burgess family, a group of kids were playing ball nearby in the park. One of them kicked the ball in Death's direction and she caught it in one hand. She told the boy responsible, Franklin, that she would "see him soon". A short time later, Franklin was racing across Fifth Avenue chasing his ball when an oncoming vehicle struck him, killing him instantly. As promised, Death came to visit and ferried his soul to the afterlife.[1]
