The Trench King was the leader of the Trench, a lost tribe of Atlanteans.
History
The Trench
The Trench are an animalistic former kingdom of Atlantis. When the Trench started to die out due to inbreeding and other problems, the Trench King led Trench to find more food under the command of the Trench Queen. He attacks a small fishing town next to Amnesty Bay and slaughters a crew of fishermen. They draw the attention of local police, who then contact Aquaman. During the fight, he managed to injure Aquaman, and along with a few Trench, escaped with captured citizens, who were encased in cocoons. Aquaman figured out where their den was located, and after killing the Queen by rupturing a volcanic fissure, he moved a tectonic plate over the den, causing a cave-in and left the trapped Trench to die from the lava gushing out.[1]

However, it was later revealed that they did in fact survive, but were trapped. They were freed by Vulko, who had secretly started the war between Atlanteans and Humans in order to get Aquaman to become king. He then used the Dead King's Scepter to control them. When Vulko was defeated, the Trench King and the rest of the Trench were freed from the mind control and began to attack people. This led to the army and the Atlanteans working together to defeat the Trench. During the battle, the Trench King tried to attack Aquaman from behind, but was ironically stabbed in the back by Ocean Master and collapsed. Without a leader, the remaining Trench then fled.[2]

Powers
- Trench Physiology: Like their sibling species, the Trench adapted to life on the ocean floor much like all the other Atlantean cultures. Hence their monstrous appearance which gives them the visage of vicious angler fish.
- Superhuman Strength: The Trench were strong enough to contend with Atlanteans.
- Superhuman Durability: The Trench are able to withstand the huge pressures of deep ocean.

- Enhanced Vision: The Trench are able to see perfectly in the pitch blackness of the deep ocean.
- Enhanced Hearing: The Trenchs' hearing is far greater than any human's.
- Toxikinesis: The Trench have the ability to spit a chemical from their mouth that can cause paralysis.[1]
- Bioluminescence: The Trench possess a natural ability to generate a personal light source from their own bodies. The king can cause his entire body to glow unlike other Trench.
- Razor-Sharp Teeth: The teeth of the Trench are powerful enough to bite through flesh and bone. Their king was able to pierce Aquaman's scale armour and dense tissues with his maw.
- Needle Point Nails: The Trench have incredibly sharp talons capable of cutting and rending tempred steel with ease. Those of the Trench leader were potent enough to rend even Arthur Curry's dense skin.[1]
