Star Sapphire is the name of several characters throughout the DC Universe; many of them are villainous, and all connected in origin. The title of Star Sapphire is akin to that of Green Lanterns, except those who bear it use the power inherent to love instead of will. When possessed by the dangerously unstable Star Sapphire gemstone, or when bearing a Star Sapphire Ring, members exhibit powers similar to a Green Lantern, including force blasts, a protective shield, and flight.
They have recently expanded their influence with the creation of a Star Sapphire Corps, also known as the Violet Lantern Corps. The Star Sapphire Corps is primarily empowered by a race of females known as Zamarons. They derive their abilities from the Star Sapphire Central Power Battery, which is fueled by the gemstones and houses the Predator Entity.
- The most prominent of them has been Carol Ferris, the sometime girlfriend of Hal Jordan, better known as Green Lantern. Her power primarily came from a Star Sapphire gemstone before switching to a ring.
- Dela Pharon was the lover of the Green Lantern of Xanador. She was often the rival of Ferris.
- Remoni-Notra, of the planet Pandina, was chosen by the Zamarons to be their queen, an honor previously bequeathed upon Ferris, but was refused.
- Jillian Pearlman, callsign Cowgirl, was a Star Sapphire who acted as a flame for Hal Jordan, and her ring was previously owned by Ferris.
The first character under the name of Star Sapphire was created by Robert Kanigher and Lee Elias, first appearing in All-Flash #32.
