Synopsis for "The Dark Lantern"
In a bar in a distant planet, a Green Lantern has a drink while a cloaked figure asks a thug to steal the Lantern's power battery. The Green Lantern easily takes down the thug, while the cloaked figure calmly engages in conversation with him, asking him why a hero like him is in a bar. The Lantern replies he is not a hero, and the unknown person speaks about Superman, the last Kryptonian and hero of Earth. Surprised by a Kryptonian survivor, the Green Lantern quickly leaves for Earth.
Once there, he finds Superman and asks him to take his life. The Man of Steel refuses to take a life, but the Lantern says he was the Green Lantern tasked with protecting Krypton, but he failed that task. Now, he sees fitting that his life is ended by the last Kryptonian.
The Lantern explains he was there while Krypton exploded. He attempted to save as many as he could but it was too late. He asks Superman to end his shame, but Superman refuses, saying the Lantern did not Krypton was going to explode. Angry, the Lantern attacks Superman, putting civilians in danger if it means Superman will fight with lethal intent. But still, Superman refuses to kill, causing the Lantern to hit him with his power battery.
The cloaked figure arrives and reveals the Lantern's battery is in fact a piece of Krypton. Stabbing the Lantern with a yellow piece of metal, the figure reveals himself to be Brainiac, and he has come to destroy Superman. Brainiac brutally attacks the Lantern, and when Superman attempts to intervene, he traps him with his cables and begins to drain the life out of him. Even while experiencing agony, Superman says it was not the Lantern's fault Krypton was destroyed, and if it was then he forgives him.
Inspired by Superman's forgiveness, the Lantern destroys the Kryptonite and attacks Brainiac, saving Superman's life. Brainiac stabs the Lantern with a yellow cable, but the Lantern grabs Brainiac and takes him into deep space, where he releases all the power in his ring, causing a massive explosion that kills them both.
