Cyril Saunders (New Earth)

Cyril "Speed" Saunders was once part of the FBI's River Patrol Division,^[1] but later became a private investigator and later still, a member of the OSS. He is the cousin of Shiera Sanders, the first Hawkgirl.

History

Pre-WWII

In the late 1930s and early 1940s, Speed Saunders served in the FBI's River Patrol Division, and then worked as a private detective.

During WWII, Saunders served, with great distinction, in the OSS.^{[citation needed]}

Hawkgirl

At the beginning of the 21st Century, Speed found his granddaughter, Kendra Saunders, took her in, and began training her with all the skills she would need to become a hero. He was well aware that she was destined to become the next Hawkgirl.

Because of his long-standing friendship with the first Sandman, Wesley Dodds, Saunders became embroiled in a Justice Society conflict, involving the first Green Lantern, Alan Scott, much of the rest of the Justice Society of America, and particularly the Fate-Child.^[2]

• Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-Two era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and no longer apply.
• The Speed Saunders feature ran in Detective Comics Vol 1, from Detective Comics #1, March 1937, to #58, Dec 1941.
