Challengers of the Unknown (Volume 3) #12 is an issue of the series Challengers of the Unknown (Volume 3) with a cover date of January, 1998.
Synopsis for "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?"
After a race featuring a death-defying crash, Clay Brody is approached by Edward Sands. He invites the driver to join a new version of the Challengers of the Unknown.
In the present, Sands is experiencing a vision of his old war buddies, guiding him through a belief that they are extra-chronal men, no longer tied to linear time. Meanwhile, Batman and the Challengers are fighting a group of soldiers from various wars in Gotham City. The ghost soldiers manage to transport the current-day heroes back to the day when the Waynes were killed in Crime Alley.
It turns out that Sands has come to Gotham to save his war buddy Paul Hemmings who is vacillating in the time stream and cannot find a way to bring himself back to reality without the compassion of his friend. They take him to Arkham Asylum for safekeeping.
