Being a Blackhawk is dangerous

The Blackhawks led hard lives and took terrible wounds in their long and violent careers.

History

Blackhawk, Quality Universe, 1939 ~ 1956

• Blackhawk was shot down not less than twenty-two times.^[1]
• Blackhawk walked away alive from not less than twenty-two aircraft crashes.^[2] Six of these crashes were deliberate.^[3]
• Blackhawk has been knocked unconscious, or at least stunned, with a blow to the head, not less than sixty-eight times.^[4] His head has been hit with horse hooves, rifle stocks, pistol butts, shrapnel, a blunt-tipped arrow, a desk clock, thrown rocks, gripped rocks, a vase, a brick, a lead pipe, a log, several clubs and sticks, a blackjack, some fists, a wrench, a hammer, and unknown other blunt instruments.
• On at least nine occasions Blackhawk has received bullet wounds.^[5]
• Other injuries: Blackhawk once got a stab wound that left him hospitalized.^[6] He once got a dose of phosgene gas and was bedridden for some time by that.^[7] He once whacked his ankle badly enough to be immobilized, in the wilderness, for a week.^[8] He has been blinded, for a week, by the flare from a pistol shot.^[9] Blackhawk has been subjected to prolonged severe torture not less than seven times.^[10]

Blackhawk, Earth-One, 1944 ~ 1977

• Blackhawk was shot down by Mr. Freeze in Blackhawk #117. He also had his left arm frozen solid.
• Blackhawk was shot down by the Sky Raven in Blackhawk #122.
• Blackhawk is shot down with a blowtorch arrow, in Blackhawk #128, 1st story.

Andre, Quality Universe, 1939 ~ 1956

• Andre was shot down at least thrice.^[11]
• Andre survived at least four plane crashes.^[12]
• Andre has been knocked unconscious, or at least stunned, with a blow to the head, not less than seventeen times.^[13] His head has been hit with an avalanche, some clubs, some blackjacks, some rifle stocks, a pistol butt, an alien robot fist, a heavy goblet, a pipe, and a stick.
• On at least five occasions Andre has received bullet wounds including machinegun multiple shots.^[14]
• Other injuries: Andre once had his face smashed into unrecognizeability, and endured severe amnesia for six months, after which he underwent facial reconstruction plastic surgery twice in a few days.^[15] Andre got badly burned in a hangar fire, and was bedridden for some time, with bandages covering his entire upper body.^[16]

• Andre got head-konked unconscious during a parachute drop in Blackhawk #116.
• Andre got knocked out in a car crash, in Blackhawk #117, 2nd story.

• Chop Chop was tortured, on a rack.^[21]

• Hendrickson and Chop Chop were stunned in an elevator crash, in Blackhawk #117, 2nd story.
• Chop Chop was magically "shot down" in Blackhawk #227.

Chuck Wilson, Quality Universe, 1942 ~ 1956

• Chuck got shot down at least four times.^[23]
• Chuck has survived at least five plane crashes.^[24]
• Chuck has been knocked unconscious, or at least stunned, with a blow to the head, not less than eight times.^[25]
• Chuck has been shot once.^[26]
• Chuck had all the information pulled out of his brain, by an alien machine, temporarily reducing him to amnesiac idiocy.^[27]

• Chuck's left leg was fractured in Blackhawk #117.
• Chuck gets head-punched unconscious, then later gets shot down with rapid-fire antiaircraft cannon, in Blackhawk #124.
• Chuck gets head-punched unconscious from behind, in Blackhawk #127.

Hans Hendrickson, Quality Universe, 1941 ~ 1956

• Hendrickson has only been shot down once.^[28]
• Hendrickson has survived at least two aircraft crashes.^[29]
• Hendrickson has been knocked unconscious, or at least stunned, with a blow to the head, not less than seven times.^[30]
• Hendrickson once was surgically modified, with a remote-control electrode at the base of his cerebellum. This procedure was then reversed. He recovered very quickly from both of these surgeries.

• Hendrickson is shot down, and crashes, and then hits his head hard enough to get amnesia, and then gets head-hit hard enough to knock him out again, in Blackhawk #115, 1st story.
• Hendrickson and Chop Chop are stunned in an elevator crash, in Blackhawk #117, 2nd story.
• Hendrickson got frozen solid in Blackhawk #117, 3rd story.

• Olaf has survived at least seven vehicle crashes.^[33] One of these crashes was deliberate.^[34] Olaf may also have been in one earlier crash,^[35], the chronicles are unclear.
• Olaf has been knocked unconscious, or at least stunned, with a blow to the head, not less than nine times.^[36]
• Olaf has been shot at least three times.^[37]

Olaf Bjornson, Earth- One, 1944 ~ 1977

• Olaf's wrist got sprained in Blackhawk #117, 2nd story.
• Shot down: Olaf's Lockheed interceptor is sliced in two, in mid-air, by a buzz-saw-tipped antiaircraft arrow, in Blackhawk #128, 1st story.

Stanislaus, Quality Universe, 1939 ~ 1956

• Stanislaus has been shot down twice.^[38]
• Stanislaus has survived at least three aircraft crashes.^[39] One of these crashes was deliberate.^[40]
• Stan has been shot or struck with shrapnel at least twice.^[41]
• Stanislaus has been knocked unconscious, or at least stunned, with a blow to the head, not less than six times.^[42]
• Like Andre before him,^[43] Stanislaus has been apparently killed,^[44] then months later returned to the team.^[45]

Stanislaus, Earth-One, 1944 ~ 1977

• Stan got shot down during WWII in Blackhawk #224.
• Stan got blinded for a few days, by a flashbulb, in Blackhawk #117.
• Stan crashed, due to engine failure, in Blackhawk #119.
• Stan got shot down with an arrow-firing "shrapnel" arrow, in Blackhawk #128, 1st story.
  

Zinda Blake, New Earth Pre-Zero-Hour, 1959, 1967, 1994,

• Zinda Blake had Amnesia and a transformed personality, from 1959 until 1967. Her old memories and personality were restored by a blow to the head, which did not knock her out, in Blackhawk #228.

Warplanes, Quality Universe, 1939 ~ 1956

• From 1940 through 1948, the Blackhawks lost seven Grumman hybrid Skyrocket/Wildcats, and twenty-eight standard Grumman Skyrockets, for a total of thirty-five planes.^[46]
• From 1948 through 1950, the Blackhawks lost three North American Sabre Jets.^[47]
• From 1951 through 1956, the Blackhawks lost sixty-six Lockheed F-90 interceptors. That was sixty-seven months, so that's an attrition rate of (66/67), or about 0.99 jets/month.^[48]

• Definitions: Mid-air plane crashes are crashes. Pancake landings leave the planes involved unflyable, thus are also crashes.

Blackhawk Tallies, Earth-One,

Here's the twofold problem with tallying Blackhawk's crashes and konks in an Earth-One context:
1/ Did ALL of Blackhawk's earlier history also take place on Earth-One? Definitely not. Did ANY of that history take place on Earth-One? Yeah probably but how much and which stories? There's no defendable rule for picking which Quality Universe stories remain "real" in the Earth-One timeline.
2/ Worse yet, from Blackhawk #109 onward, the World War II stories are presented not at all chronologically, with most of them being "Combat Diary" flashbacks. In short, Blackhawk is confusing.
