"Batgirl Rising: Point of New Origin, Part Three": Batgirl tracks down the drug dealers and their boss, Scarecrow, to an abandoned hospital in Devil's Square. Oracle doesn't want her to go in alone, but with the other Bats occupied and the police another five minutes

Quote1 A guy asked me a question the other day... about why people run when things get tough. That's easy -- you can become someone else, wherever you land, right? Who's gonna know the difference? So why stay? Why set yourself up for more failure? For more pain? Also easy -- because we don't know how to do anything else. So why stay? Why open yourself up to all the bad you've tried to leave behind? "The only variable you can control is yourself." You can forget who you are, or you can be who you want to be. That's why you stay. You stay for a second chance. Quote2

Synopsis for "Batgirl Rising: Point of New Origin, Part Three"

Batgirl tracks down the drug dealers and their boss, Scarecrow, to an abandoned hospital in Devil's Square. Oracle doesn't want her to go in alone, but with the other Bats occupied and the police another five minutes out, she tells Batgirl there is an inoculation against fear gas in “Cassandra's” utility belt. They are unsure how effective it will be against Thrill, but Batgirl injects herself anyway and fights her way into the hospital. Oracle offers her advice, but Batgirl insists on doing it her own way.

Scarecrow is aware the Thrill dealers were followed, and he doses them with Thrill while musing that, regardless, after the riot no one will come to Devil's Square and that is what Black Mask really wanted. Batgirl confronts him, and during their fight, Scarecrow injects her with Thrill. In his place she hallucinates Tim Drake as Robin, who mocks her for not being a good enough hero or girlfriend, and herself as Spoiler, who tells her this is what she deserves for her mistakes, as well as Barbara Gordon, the racer from the first issue, and her mother; but she breaks free of the hallucination. She wonders aloud why people run away and why they stay, and she decides they stay for a second chance. Scarecrow retorts that if you stay, you're forced to confront yourself, and no one is brave enough to face who they really are. “I am,” she declares. “I'm Batgirl.” Oracle sits back and says, “She just might be,” as the police burst in. Batgirl disappears in a cloud of purple smoke, confusing Detective Gage.

The next morning, Stephanie makes her mother waffles for breakfast. She has left a note written on Detective Gage's window, thanking him for not shooting her. Barbara, meanwhile, returns to the Thompkins Clinic and introduces herself to Wendy Harris. She knows how angry Wendy must be, but she doesn't have to be, and Barbara will be available if she wants to talk. Barbara leaves for work, having taken a job at Gotham University as an assistant professor in Computer Sciences. Steph finds her after class and asks about her office hours.

Steph and Barbara meet in the Batcave where they swear an oath not that justice will be served, like Bruce and Dick did, because they have already made that choice, but that they won't be alone in this. Barbara gives her a new Batgirl suit. Batgirl goes on patrol with a cry of "Here we go!"
