Barbara Gordon was the commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department and formerly the costumed vigilante Batgirl.

Origins

As the daughter of the police commissioner, she worked to spite her father, until she briefly became a thief and then the vigilante Batgirl, with the help of Robin and Batman. She had a brief relationship with Robin and they defeated Lady Vic and Bivens together.

After Dick left Gotham, Barbara was shot by the Joker, paralyzing her. So Barbara's career as a costumed crime fighter was over. Recognizing she could no longer be the kind of hero she had been, Barbara used one of the world's most complex and powerful computer systems and set to work accumulating information, the "Oracle." Her father was later killed by Mr. Freeze and she became the new commissioner.[1][2][3]
