Afrikaans: Die mense wat deel was van hierdie avontuur! Ons het 'n wonderlike span gehad, bestaande uit 'n plaaslike gids, 'n sirdar (persoon in beheer van portiers en logistieke kwessies) en 2 portiers. Ram, ons sirdar, is links op die foto, my vrou Françoise in die middel en my seun Jonathan regs. Ons gids Harka sal in komende foto's gewys word, sowel as die portiers en myself.
Let op dat my vrou 'n serp oor haar mond en neus dra: besonder sterk winde is algemeen in die Kali Gandaki-ravyn en, veral op die roetes wat deur jeeps gebruik word, soos dit die geval hier tussen Jomsom en Kagbeni is, kan die atmosfeer baie stowwerig word. Verskille in atmosferiese druk tussen die hoë plato noord van die vallei, en die onderste deel van dieselfde vallei is die rede vir die wind.
English: The people who were part of this adventure! We had a wonderful team, made of a local guide, a sirdar (person in charge of porters and logistics issues) and 2 porters. Ram (our sirdar) is on the left of this picture, my wife Françoise in the middle and my son Jonathan on the right. Our guide Harka will be shown in upcoming pictures as well as the porters and myself.
Notice my wife is wearing a scarf on her mouth and nose: very strong winds are common in the Kali Gandaki Gorge and, especially on the trails used by jeeps as it is the case here between Jomsom and Kagbeni, the atmosphere can become very dusty. Differences in atmospheric pressure between the high plateau north of the valley, and the lower part of the same valley are at the origin of the wind. |
