The photograph was taken from one of the carrier's aircraft, which had been based ashore during her visit to Gibraltar. Valley Forge, with assigned Carrier Air Group 11 (CVG-11), departed San Diego, California (USA), westwards on 9 October 1947 and arrived back on 11 June 1948. |
