Summary
DescriptionDial torque concept.png |
English: A basic, much simplified view of the layout of a dial indicating type torque wrench.
In essence it is a simple beam type torque wrench, however the indicating beam (the one only connected to the head of the tool) is connected to a dial indicator and indicates torque through that. |

Indicating beam: Is only attached to the head and does not flex when torque is applied.
Indicator push rod: This connects the indicating beam to the indicator movement mechanism.
Indicator movement and dial: There are many varieties of this part, shown here is a simple rack and pinion version.
This part simply translates the almost linear motion of the indicating beam and push rod into rotational motion of the indicator needle.
The gear teeth shown are much larger than they would be as in reality the mechanism would be made more like a watch than a tool.
