Summary
editDescriptionMarc Brown and the Blues Crew.jpg |
English: Marc Brown and the Blues Crew, a blues-rock band based in Fairbanks, Alaska, plays during the summer solstice street fair in downtown Fairbanks. The lineup consists of, from left: David Peck (drums and vocals), Marc Anthony Brown (guitar and lead vocals) and Daniel Smith (?) on bass. The band's lineup changes often enough to where I can't say for certain who the bassist is; the band's previous stable lineup featured Pat Costello on drums and vocals and Noel Camp on bass. Brown is a Koyukon from Huslia, Alaska who incorporates Koyukon music and traditions into his music. This is most evident in his best-known song, "Indian Rock 'N' Roll", an adaptation of a Koyukon song written by Louis Demoski of Galena, Alaska. Founded in 1993, the Blues Crew has mostly toiled away as a bar band, but began making inroads into Native circles throughout the United States a little over a decade ago when Brown's brother, Harold "Buddy" Brown, served as president of Tanana Chiefs Conference. In 2011, the band won the Native American Music Award ("Nammy") for Best Blues Recording. The front entrance of the Rabinowitz Courthouse can be seen at right behind the stage. |
