Unused disputed chemical diagrams
editFile:Cis-Thiogeraniol.png- File:Deoxyxylulose.png
- File:C4H8식.jpg
- File:(R)-Pantolacton V.1.svg
- File:(S)-Pantolacton V.1.svg
- File:FAD.jpg
- File:Cyclic-di-GMP.jpg, File:Cyclic-di-gmp.jpg and File:Cyclic diguanylate.png
The above files are unused and tagged with {{Disputed chem}}, and have a better vector version (respectively File:Cis-thiogeraniol.svg, File:Deoxyxylulose.svg, File:Isobuten.svg, File:(R)-Pantolacton V.2.svg, File:(S)-Pantolacton V.2.svg, File:FAD.svg and File:Cyclic-di-GMP.svg) available. Feel free to add any images inside Category:Disputed chemical diagrams or Category:Disputed chemical diagrams/expired here. --Alfa-ketosav (talk) 08:36, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Comment File:Cis-Thiogeraniol.png might be renamed to File:Trans-Thiogeraniol.png. --Leyo 10:21, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- There already is an image with this name, and it doesn't look that bad. Alfa-ketosav (talk) 16:02, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Agreed, we do have both a PNG and SVG of the "trans" chemical with correct filenames. The currently-named-as-"cis" that is actually "trans" is drawn in a different conformation, and other conformations are sometimes useful in various chemistry/biochemistry contexts. But I don't see any specific use of this specific conformation at the moment. If someone has a use-case for any specific conformation, it's trivial to draw it as relevant to any specific context. So I am ambivalent about whether named-"cis" should be renamed to be "trans" but at a different filename that doesn't collide with our existing file of that name. - Sorry for having proposed an existing file name by mistake. I've now moved the file to File:Trans-thiogeraniol structure.png, as it surely could be useful, e.g. in de.wikipedia (due to the explicit –CH3). --Leyo 23:17, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Keep at new name (and without redirect from wrong name) as Leyo has done and per the dewiki MOS idea. DMacks (talk) 04:52, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

- Delete File:(R)-Pantolacton V.1.svg and File:(S)-Pantolacton V.1.svg. They are not actually pantolactone (nom notes we do have correct images of them at other filenames). These two chemicals do exist, but I'm not seeing much in the literature about them. Commons doesn't seem to have scope of "every compound that is known or could be known". - Delete File:C4H8식.jpg. If this were C4H8 en:isobutylene, the intent could be to illustrate the C–H dipoles in order to determine oxidation state of the carbons based on the C vs H of each bond. But this is a poor diagram of the chemical itself, and doubly-so for this use-case, since the H themselves are not seen. For example, File:CH3COOH식.jpg by same uploader of a different chemical does include the H (as per standards of this sort of diagram style) so the lines are correctly identified as C–H bonds. - Delete. Unused incorrect diagrams should be either quickly fixed or deleted. These all have accurate high quality replacements, so they should be deleted. Marbletan (talk) 18:16, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
