Written by the director, the screenplay (rewarded by the 2012 Junior Sopadin Prize) begins at the Charles de Gaulle airport, in April 2011. Jacques (Arestrup) and Safi (Coma) arrive from Abidjan, from where they have been urgently repatriated. He has dark skin, tanned by the African sun and his life as an expat hotel manager. His 14 year-old mixed-race daughter has gotten used to living with her mother and does not know what to think of this uselesss loud-mouth father who suddenly dragged her away with him. Placed in a reception centre in Nice, they learn to look at, know and maybe even love each other. But there is also Gloria, Safi’s mother, left behind in the turmoil of Abidjan and who remains unreachable...
Produced by François Kraus and Denis Pineau-Valencienne for Les Films du Kiosque, Bright Days Ahead benefits from a France 3 Cinéma coproduction, pre-purchases by Canal+ and Ciné+, an advance on receipts from the CNC, the backing of the Paca region, as well as funding from Sofica SofiTVciné, Cofimage and Manon. Filming will run until August 9th. French distribution and international sales will be handled by Le Pacte.
