Kells scoops Audience Award at Annecy
While the competition jury at the 33rd Annecy Animated Film Festival jointly awarded the 2009 Crystal for Best Feature to US production Coraline and Australian film Mary and Max, the audience honoured Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey’s The Secret of Kells [+see also:

Co-produced by Ireland (Cartoon Saloon), France (Les Armateurs and France 2 Cinéma) and Belgium (Vivi Film), the film is also in the line-up for the forthcoming Edinburgh Festival and will be released in the Netherlands on September 17.
In the shorts section, the Annecy Crystal Award went to Hanna Heilborn and David Aronowitsch’s Swedish film Slaves, while David O’Reilly’s German/Irish co-production Please Say Something received a Special Mention. Jean-Christophe Lie’s French short The Man in the Blue Gordini scooped the prize for Best Debut Film.
Finally, in the TV series section, Alexey Alexeev’s Hungarian production Log Jam won the top award.
