2000-3000 years ago in the Philippine Cordillera Region, terraces were built to maximize farming space in mountainous regions, and to prevent erosion. These terraces are ancient, rambling, man-made structures whose walls are made of compacted earth and stones. They’re up to 7m/23ft high and were carved by hand out of whole mountainsides on slopes of up to 70%. These unique structures were recognized by UNESCO and inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1995.

San Agustin Church. Erected, 1710. Paoay, Ilocos Norte. Paoay Church is the Roman Catholic parish church of the municipality of Paoay, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. Completed in 1710, the church is famous for its distinct architecture highlighted by the enormous buttresses on the sides and back of the building. In 1993, the church was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one best examples of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines.
