Meet Lucas. At just 15, Lucas struggled with anxiety, leaving him feeling unsure and isolated. But with the right mentor, Lucas built confidence and can now see a brighter future. At Raise we know there are many teens just like Lucas waiting for a Mentor of their own. Someone who can be there for them, without judgement to listen and support. But without funding, we can’t train enough mentors for every young person who needs a Raise Mentor. This holiday season, please consider making a small donation so that struggling teens like Lucas can be supported and given the gift of confidence and connection. Your donation can change a teens life. Help teens like Lucas thrive—donate today and make a life-changing difference. 💙 https://lnkd.in/d8B7kdsM #SupportOurYouth #MentorshipMatters #YouthWellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #FundraiseForTeens #EndOfYearGiving

A powerful mentoring movement creating thriving communities across Australia
About us
Based in high schools, we provide young people with a caring, independent volunteer mentor who shows up each week, just for them. With time to listen, one-to-one support with a mentor gives young people a voice, empowering them to cope better, today and in the future. We've recruited, screened and trained over 7,200 volunteers to become youth mentors. These incredible, everyday people show up week after week as an independent, caring and trusted mentor. Together we've supported over 10,700 young people. Every program is managed by our qualified counsellors who oversee the smooth, safe and successful delivery of our programs. We can’t remove the barriers and challenges that young people may experience throughout their adolescence and the rest of the lives, however, through our program, young people are equipped with the tools, skills and resources they need to support their mental health, social and emotional wellbeing and engagement. Empowered to use these skills, teenagers are more able to navigate the complexity of adolescence and the challenges life may throw at them.

Recently we enjoyed an intimate and insightful boardroom lunch in Melbourne, kindly hosted by Equity Trustees and Moller Family Foundation to explore the meaningful impact of mentoring on the wellbeing of young people in Australia, as well as the power of early intervention measures to drive significant social change. Special thanks to our guest speakers and on-the-ground experts, including Dr Kate Filia, Senior Research Fellow at Orygen, Centre for Youth Mental Health; @Kate Bentley, Raise Program Counsellor; and @Katie Parker-Vukusic Head of Wellbeing, @Bentleigh Secondary College. The top themes throughout our conversations included: - Social isolation and young people not having people to turn to in times of need (/ability to form meaningful connections) including parents not being equipped to know where to go or how to frame to their kids about getting help - Young people being increasingly concerned about the cost-of-living crisis and financial security for their future - Skyrocketing anxiety, resulting in school refusal, which in turn impacts mental health - A desire for face-to-face services by young people – findings from a survey of 18,800 young people around Australia by Orygen and Mission Australia showed that 70% of young people reported wanting in-person connections in times of need - Resilience being frequently thrown about as a buzz word. Its not necessarily about bouncing back but rather having the skills and resources to be ok with feeling and sitting with emotions that are uncomfortable and knowing that things will get better - Great recognition and appreciation for the dedication and commitment Wellbeing Teams have for their students and supporting them to get the help they need. There is so much more we need to do as a collective amidst the "loneliness epidemic eroding mental health" amongst our young people. We are committed to our goal of providing a trained and trusted mentor to every young person who needs one. To continue the conversation and support our mission, please reach out! Thank you, Jacinta Tynan, for sharing this moving conversation with fellow ambassador Ellia Green. Hearing Ellia’s journey—from Olympic glory to the deeply personal moments of resilience and transformation—beautifully highlights the impact of mentorship and the strength that comes from it. We’re honoured to have ambassadors like you both inspiring and uplifting the Raise Village. 💙 #RaiseFoundation #MentoringMatters
Ellia Green has quite the story to tell. There’s the Olympic gold medal in Rio as an esteemed member of the Australian Rugby Sevens team in 2016. That’s the part that made him a household name. But there’s also an extraordinary backstory of resilience, courage and determination that has shaped him. As a fellow ambassador with Raise Foundation , I had the opportunity to sit with Ellia and ask him the deeper questions at a special fundraising lunch for Raise. Ellia opened up with vulnerability and generosity to share the story of his adoption at birth, heartache at losing his beloved mum (he wanted to bury his Olympic medal with her until the funeral director talked him out of it!), becoming a parent, gender transition and redefining his identity after sporting heroism. He also talked about the importance of mentoring in his own life - his mentors none other than Peter and Bev Brock (friends of his parents) - the very essence of what Raise Foundation is about. Find any person doing impressive things and you’ll usually find they have a mentor. Thanks @tribeca @junliu8205 for your support of Raise.
