The influence of size effects on the thermoelectric properties of thin platinum films is investigated and compared to the bulk. Structural properties, like the film thickness and the grain size, are varied. We correlate the electron mean free path with the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity and the absolute Seebeck coefficient $S_{\text{Pt}}$ of platinum. We use a measurement platform as a standardized method to determine $S_{\text{Pt}}$ and show that $S_{\text{Pt,film}}$ is reduced compared to $S_{\text{Pt,bulk}}$. Boundary and surface scattering reduce the thermodiffusion and the phonon drag contribution to $S_{\text{Pt,film}}$ by nearly the same factor. A detailed discussion and a model to describe the temperature dependence of the absolute Seebeck coefficient and the influence of size effects of electron-phonon and phonon-phonon interaction on $S_{\text{Pt}}$ is given.

The energy level alignment at organic/inorganic (o/i) semiconductor interfaces is crucial for any light-emitting or -harvesting functionality. Essential is the access to both occupied and unoccupied electronic states directly at the interface, which is often deeply buried underneath thick organic films and challenging to characterize. We use several complementary experimental techniques to determine the electronic structure of p-quinquephenyl pyridine (5P-Py) adsorbed on ZnO(10-10). The parent anchoring group, pyridine, significantly lowers the work function by up to 2.9 eV and causes an occupied in-gap state (IGS) directly below the Fermi level $E_\text{F}$. Adsorption of upright-standing 5P-Py also leads to a strong work function reduction of up to 2.1 eV and to a similar IGS. The latter is then used as an initial state for the transient population of three normally unoccupied molecular levels through optical excitation and, due to its localization right at the o/i interface, provides interfacial sensitivity, even for thick 5P-Py films. We observe two final states above the vacuum level and one bound state at around 2 eV above $E_\text{F}$, which we attribute to the 5P-Py LUMO. By the separate study of anchoring group and organic dye combined with the exploitation of the occupied IGS for selective interfacial photoexcitation this work provides a new pathway for characterizing the electronic structure at buried o/i interfaces.

Linearly Degenerate Hamiltonian PDEs and a New Class of Solutions to the WDVV Associativity Equations

Abstract:
We define a new class of solutions to the WDVV associativity equations. This class is determined by the property that one of the commuting PDEs associated with such a WDVV solution is linearly degenerate. We reduce the problem of classifying such solutions of the WDVV equations to the particular case of the so-called algebraic Riccati equation and, in this way, arrive at a complete classification…

Utilizing this Hamiltonian structure and extra conservation law densities we construct a first evolution commuting flow of the third order. Also, we apply the recursion operator and present a second Hamiltonian structure. This bi-Hamiltonian structure allows to replicate infinitely many local commuting flows and corresponding local conservation law densities.

A complete classification of integrable conservative hydrodynamic chains is presented. These hydrodynamic chains are written via special coordinates -- moments, such that right hand sides of these infinite component systems depend linearly on a discrete independent variable $k$. All variable coefficients of these hydrodynamic chains can be expressed via modular forms with respect to moment $A^{0}$, via hypergeometric functions with respect to moment $A^{1}$; they depend polynomially on moment $A^{2}$ and linearly on all other higher moments $A^{k}$. A dispersionless Lax representation is found. Corresponding collisionless Boltzmann (Vlasov like kinetic) equation is derived. A Riemann mapping is constructed. A generating function of conservation laws and commuting flows is presented.

We introduce and study a new class of kinetic equations, which arise in the description of nonequilibrium macroscopic dynamics of soliton gases with elastic collisions between solitons. These equations represent nonlinear integro-differential systems and have a novel structure, which we investigate by studying in detail the class of $N$-component `cold-gas' hydrodynamic reductions. We prove that these reductions represent integrable linearly degenerate hydrodynamic type systems for arbitrary $N$ which is a strong evidence in favour of integrability of the full kinetic equation. We derive compact explicit representations for the Riemann invariants and characteristic velocities of the hydrodynamic reductions in terms of the `cold-gas' component densities and construct a number of exact solutions having special properties (quasi-periodic, self-similar). Hydrodynamic symmetries are then derived and investigated. The obtained results shed the light on the structure of a continuum limit for a large class of integrable systems of hydrodynamic type and are also relevant to the description of turbulent motion in conservative compressible flows.

Numerical calculations of the effect of organophosphorous inhibitor (CF3CH2O)3P and its mixtures with carbon dioxide on propane flames are carried out using the three dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations in the low Mach number approximation. The k-e model of turbulence, the EDC combustion model and the weighted-sum-of-gray-gases model of radiation are used. The Westbrook global-kinetic scheme with fractional order of reaction was used for the calculation of chemical reaction rate of propane combustion. The empirical expression for the correction factor for the chemical reaction rate was used to model the effect of organophosphorous inhibitor no the reaction. Two series of test calculations for different values of the correction factor are carried out. Dependences of the minimum extinguishing concentration of the inhibitor per carbon dioxide volume concentration in the extinguishing mixtures were obtained. The results of test calculations are shown to agree reasonably with the experimental data. A calculation of the compartment fire extinguishment was carried out using the result of test calculations. Temperature and inhibitor volume concentration fields at the moment of fire extinguishment are obtained. The results of calculation are used to find out the optimum position of the extinguish mixture source.

The binary model of physical vacuum is considered. This model reveals unified cause-and-effect mechanism of electromagnetic and gravitational interactions. The model of binary vacuum does not identify physical vacuum to a substance as the model of mechanical ether does, but presents physical vacuum as the unity of two simultaneously everywhere existed non-structural electrical elementary media. They are just the same except for their signs. They diffusively and uniformly penetrate into each other. Each of them is continuousal and possesses the elastic modulus of dilatation and the elastic mutual-shearing modulus. The shearing-strain theory of elementary media describes all modern relative electrodynamics and answers the unknown before questions: how do the electric charges, electric and magnetic fields arrange in nature; what are the cause-and-effect relations in Coulomb and Lorentz forces; why are the electromagnetic waves transversal. The theory of monolithic (combined) deformations of world elementary media (near neutral bodies) is the theory of relative gravitation. In particular it determines unknown before gravitational-energy density, converts the experimental Newton law of gravitation into a speculative result.
