Here, we use work of Chisholm, Deines, Long, Nebe and the third author to prove a general $p$-adic supercongruence theorem through an explicit connection to CM hypergeometric elliptic curves that provides $p$-adic analogues of these Ramanujan-Sato series. We further use this theorem to construct explicit examples related to each of our explicit Ramanujan-Sato series examples.

These expressions are in terms of hypergeometric character sums over finite fields, a theory developed largely by Greene, Katz, Beukers-Cohen-Mellit, and Fuselier-Long-Ramakrishna-Swisher-Tu. Our approach, in contrast to the previous works, is uniform and more geometric, and it works equally well for forms on elliptic modular curves and Shimura curves. The same method can be applied to obtain eigenvalues of Hecke operators as well.

Machine learning (ML) technologies have become substantial in practically all aspects of our society, and data quality (DQ) is critical for the performance, fairness, robustness, safety, and scalability of ML models. With the large and complex data in data-centric AI, traditional methods like exploratory data analysis (EDA) and cross-validation (CV) face challenges, highlighting the importance of mastering DQ tools. In this survey, we review 17 DQ evaluation and improvement tools in the last 5 years. By introducing the DQ dimensions, metrics, and main functions embedded in these tools, we compare their strengths and limitations and propose a roadmap for developing open-source DQ tools for ML. Based on the discussions on the challenges and emerging trends, we further highlight the potential applications of large language models (LLMs) and generative AI in DQ evaluation and improvement for ML. We believe this comprehensive survey can enhance understanding of DQ in ML and could drive progress in data-centric AI. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the spectral properties of 886 pulsars across a wide frequency range from 20MHz to 343.5GHz, including a total of 86 millisecond pulsars. The majority of the pulsars exhibit power-law behavior in their spectra, although some exceptions are observed. Five different spectral models, namely simple power-law, broken power-law, low-frequency turn-over, high-frequency cut-off, and double turn-over, were employed to explore the spectral behaviors. The average spectral index for pulsars modeled with a simple power-law is found to be -1.64 +/-0.80, consistent with previous studies. Additionally, significant correlations between the spectral index and characteristic parameters are observed particularly in millisecond pulsars, while no strong correlation is observed in normal pulsars. Different models show variations in the most influential characteristic parameters associated with the spectral index, indicating diverse dominant radiation mechanisms in millisecond pulsars. Finally, this study identifies 22 pulsars of the Gigahertz-peaked Spectra (GPS) type for the first time based on the Akaike information criterion.

The theories of hypergeometric functions and modular forms are highly intertwined. For example, particular values of truncated hypergeometric functions and hypergeometric character sums are often congruent or equal to Fourier coefficients of modular forms. In this series of papers, we develop and explore an explicit "Hypergeometric-Modularity" method for associating a modular form to a given hypergeometric datum. In particular, for certain length three and four hypergeometric data we give an explicit method for finding a modular form $f$ such that the corresponding hypergeometric Galois representation has a subrepresentation isomorphic to the Deligne representation of $f$. Our method utilizes Ramanujan's theory of elliptic functions to alternative bases, commutative formal group laws, and supercongruences. As a byproduct, we give a collection of eta quotients with multiplicative coefficients constructed from hypergeometric functions. In the second paper, we discuss a number of applications, including explicit connections between hypergeometric values and periods of these explicit eta quotients as well as evaluation formulae for certain special $L$-values.

Randomization, as a key technique in clinical trials, can eliminate sources of bias and produce comparable treatment groups. In randomized experiments, the treatment effect is a parameter of general interest. Researchers have explored the validity of using linear models to estimate the treatment effect and perform covariate adjustment and thus improve the estimation efficiency. However, the relationship between covariates and outcomes is not necessarily linear, and is often intricate. Advances in statistical theory and related computer technology allow us to use nonparametric and machine learning methods to better estimate the relationship between covariates and outcomes and thus obtain further efficiency gains. However, theoretical studies on how to draw valid inferences when using nonparametric and machine learning methods under stratified randomization are yet to be conducted. In this paper, we discuss a unified framework for covariate adjustment and corresponding statistical inference under stratified randomization and present a detailed proof of the validity of using local linear kernel-weighted least squares regression for covariate adjustment in treatment effect estimators as a special case. In the case of high-dimensional data, we additionally propose an algorithm for statistical inference using machine learning methods under stratified randomization, which makes use of sample splitting to alleviate the requirements on the asymptotic properties of machine learning methods. Finally, we compare the performances of treatment effect estimators using different machine learning methods by considering various data generation scenarios, to guide practical research.

Spatial architecture is a high-performance architecture that uses control flow graphs and data flow graphs as the computational model and producer/consumer models as the execution models. However, existing spatial architectures suffer from control flow handling challenges. Upon categorizing their PE execution models, we find that they lack autonomous, peer-to-peer, and temporally loosely-coupled control flow handling capability. This leads to limited performance in intensive control programs.
A spatial architecture, Marionette, is proposed, with an explicit-designed control flow plane. The Control Flow Plane enables autonomous, peer-to-peer and temporally loosely-coupled control flow handling. The Proactive PE Configuration ensures timely and computation-overlapped configuration to improve handling Branch Divergence. The Agile PE Assignment enhance the pipeline performance of Imperfect Loops. We develop full stack of Marionette (ISA, compiler, simulator, RTL) and demonstrate that in a variety of challenging intensive control programs, compared to state-of-the-art spatial architectures, Marionette outperforms Softbrain, TIA, REVEL, and RipTide by geomean 2.88x, 3.38x, 1.55x, and 2.66x.

To accelerate the inference of deep neural networks (DNNs), quantization with low-bitwidth numbers is actively researched. A prominent challenge is to quantize the DNN models into low-bitwidth numbers without significant accuracy degradation, especially at very low bitwidths (< 8 bits). This work targets an adaptive data representation with variable-length encoding called DyBit. DyBit can dynamically adjust the precision and range of separate bit-field to be adapted to the DNN weights/activations distribution. We also propose a hardware-aware quantization framework with a mixed-precision accelerator to trade-off the inference accuracy and speedup. Experimental results demonstrate that the inference accuracy via DyBit is 1.997% higher than the state-of-the-art at 4-bit quantization, and the proposed framework can achieve up to 8.1x speedup compared with the original model.

The emergent universe provides a possible method to avoid the big bang singularity by considering that the universe stems from an stable Einstein static universe rather than the singularity. Since the Einstein static universe exists before inflation, it may leave some relics in the CMB power spectrum. In this paper, we analyze the stability condition for the Einstein static universe in general relativity with k-essence against both the scalar and tensor perturbations. And we find the emergent universe can be successfully realized by constructing a scalar potential and an equation of state parameter. Solving the curved Mukhanov-Sasaki equation, we obtain the analytical approximation for the primordial power spectrum, and then depict the TT-spectrum of the emergent universe. The results show that both the primordial power spectrum and CMB TT-spectrum are suppressed on large scales.

Thus, to find the relic of the existence of the Einstein static state becomes a crucial work. In this paper, we derive analytical approximation of the primordial power spectra and analyze the CMB TT-spectra for the spatially closed emergent universe. After analyzing the CMB TT-spectrum of the emergent universe scenario, we find that both the CMB TT-spectra produced by the Einstein static state followed by the ultraslow-roll inflationary epoch (method I) and by a special evolution of the scale factor in the emergent scenario as $a=a_{0}+A e^{H_{0}t}$(method II) are suppressed at $l<30$, and their spectra are nearly identical. Additionally, by comparing the spectra of the emergent universe scenario with the ones of the ultraslow-roll inflationary model in the closed universe, we find that the CMB TT-spectrum of the emergent universe is similar to the one of the inflationary model with the special case $η_t = η_{max}$.

The emergent scenario provides a possible way to avoid the big bang singularity by assuming that the universe originates from an Einstein static state. Therefore, an Einstein static universe stable under perturbations is crucial to a successful implementation of the emergent mechanism. In this paper, we analyze the stability of the Einstein static universe against the scalar perturbations in the mimetic theory and find that stable Einstein static solutions exist under certain conditions in this theory. In the original mimetic gravity, the Einstein static universe is unstable. Then, we find that the universe can naturally exit from the initial static state, evolve into an inflationary era and then exit from the inflationary era. Thus, the emergent scenario can be used to resolve the big bang singularity in the mimetic theory.

We find that the THDE model can explain the current accelerated cosmic expansion, and it is stable under certain conditions. Furthermore, through investigating the dynamical analysis, we find that there exists an attractor which represents an accelerated expansion phase of the universe. When $β=0$, this attractor corresponds to a dark energy dominated de Sitter solution and the universe can evolve into an era which is depicted by the $Λ$CDM model. Based on the holographic principle and the Barrow entropy, Barrow holographic dark energy had been proposed. In order to analyze the stability and the evolution of Barrow holographic dark energy, we, in this paper, apply the dynamical analysis and statefinder methods to Barrow holographic dark energy with different IR cutoff and interacting terms. In the case of using Hubble horizon as IR cutoff with the interacting term $Q=\fracλ{H}ρ_{m}ρ_{D}$, we find this model is stable and can be used to describe the whole evolution of the universe when the energy transfers from the pressureless matter to the Barrow holographic dark energy. When the dynamical analysis method is applied to this stable model, an attractor corresponding to an accelerated expansion epoch exists and this attractor can behave as the cosmological constant. Furthermore, the coincidence problem can be solved in this case. Then, after using the statefinder analysis method to this model, we find this model can be discriminated from the standard $Λ$CDM model. Finally, we have discussed the turning point of Hubble diagram in Barrow holographic dark energy and find the turning point does not exist in this model.

Although spiking neural networks (SNNs) take benefits from the bio-plausible neural modeling, the low accuracy under the common local synaptic plasticity learning rules limits their application in many practical tasks. Recently, an emerging SNN supervised learning algorithm inspired by backpropagation through time (BPTT) from the domain of artificial neural networks (ANNs) has successfully boosted the accuracy of SNNs and helped improve the practicability of SNNs. However, current general-purpose processors suffer from low efficiency when performing BPTT for SNNs due to the ANN-tailored optimization. On the other hand, current neuromorphic chips cannot support BPTT because they mainly adopt local synaptic plasticity rules for simplified implementation.
In this work, we propose H2Learn, a novel architecture that can achieve high efficiency for BPTT-based SNN learning which ensures high accuracy of SNNs. At the beginning, we characterized the behaviors of BPTT-based SNN learning. Benefited from the binary spike-based computation in the forward pass and the weight update, we first design lookup table (LUT) based processing elements in Forward Engine and Weight Update Engine to make accumulations implicit and to fuse the computations of multiple input points. Second, benefited from the rich sparsity in the backward pass, we design a dual-sparsity-aware Backward Engine which exploits both input and output sparsity. Finally, we apply a pipeline optimization between different engines to build an end-to-end solution for the BPTT-based SNN learning. Compared with the modern NVIDIA V100 GPU, H2Learn achieves 7.38x area saving, 5.74-10.20x speedup, and 5.25-7.12x energy saving on several benchmark datasets.

Several recent investigations have shown that there is a holographic relationship between the bulk degrees of freedom and the surface degrees of freedom in the spacetime. Furthermore, the entropy on the horizon can produce an entropic force effect on the bulk degrees of freedom. In this paper, we explore the dynamic evolution law of the universe based on the idea of the entropic force and asymptotically holographic equipartition and further analyze the thermodynamic properties of the current model. We get the age of the universe, the relation between the luminosity distance and the redshift factor and the deceleration parameter which are consistent with astronomical observations. In addition, we can well explain the age of the universe and the mechanism of accelerated expansion without introducing dark energy for the evolution history of the universe up to now. We also show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics, the energy balance condition and the energy equipartition relation always hold. More importantly, the energy balance condition is indeed a holographic relation between the bulk degrees of freedom and the surface degrees of freedom of the spacetime. Finally, we analyze the energy conditions and show that the strong energy condition is always violated and the weak energy condition is satisfied when $t\leq2t_{0}$ in which $t$ is the time parameter and $t_{0}$ is the age of the universe.

In this paper we revisit this relation from the viewpoint of the underlying hypergeometric data $HD$, to which there are also associated hypergeometric character sums and Galois representations. We explain a special structure behind Whipple's formula when the hypergeometric data $HD$ are primitive and self-dual. If the data are also defined over $\mathbb Q$, by the work of Katz, Beukers, Cohen, and Mellit, there are compatible families of $\ell$-adic representations of the absolute Galois group of $\mathbb Q$ attached to $HD$. For specialized choices of $HD$, these Galois representations are shown to be decomposable and automorphic. As a consequence, the values of the corresponding hypergeometric character sums can be explicitly expressed in terms of Fourier coefficients of certain modular forms. We further relate the hypergeometric values $_7F_6(1)$ in Whipple's formula to the periods of these modular forms.

We consider the problem of estimating and inferring treatment effects in randomized experiments. In practice, stratified randomization, or more generally, covariate-adaptive randomization, is routinely used in the design stage to balance the treatment allocations with respect to a few variables that are most relevant to the outcomes. Then, regression is performed in the analysis stage to adjust the remaining imbalances to yield more efficient treatment effect estimators. Building upon and unifying the recent results obtained for ordinary least squares adjusted estimators under covariate-adaptive randomization, this paper presents a general theory of regression adjustment that allows for arbitrary model misspecification and the presence of a large number of baseline covariates. We exemplify the theory on two Lasso-adjusted treatment effect estimators, both of which are optimal in their respective classes. In addition, nonparametric consistent variance estimators are proposed to facilitate valid inferences, which work irrespective of the specific randomization methods used. The robustness and improved efficiency of the proposed estimators are demonstrated through a simulation study and a clinical trial example. This study sheds light on improving treatment effect estimation efficiency by implementing machine learning methods in covariate-adaptive randomized experiments.

Linear regression is arguably the most fundamental statistical model; however, the validity of its use in randomized clinical trials, despite being common practice, has never been crystal clear, particularly when stratified or covariate-adaptive randomization is used. In this paper, we investigate several of the most intuitive and commonly used regression models for estimating and inferring the treatment effect in randomized clinical trials. By allowing the regression model to be arbitrarily misspecified, we demonstrate that all these regression-based estimators robustly estimate the treatment effect, albeit with possibly different efficiency. We also propose consistent non-parametric variance estimators and compare their performances to those of the model-based variance estimators that are readily available in standard statistical software. Based on the results and taking into account both theoretical efficiency and practical feasibility, we make recommendations for the effective use of regression under various scenarios. For equal allocation, it suffices to use the regression adjustment for the stratum covariates and additional baseline covariates, if available, with the usual ordinary-least-squares variance estimator. For unequal allocation, regression with treatment-by-covariate interactions should be used, together with our proposed variance estimators. These recommendations apply to simple and stratified randomization, and minimization, among others. We hope this work helps to clarify and promote the usage of regression in randomized clinical trials.

In this paper, robust control with sea state observer and dynamic thrust allocation is proposed for the Dynamic Positioning (DP) of an accommodation vessel in the presence of unknown hydrodynamic force variation and the input time delay. In order to overcome the huge force variation due to the adjoining Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) and accommodation vessel, a novel sea state observer is designed. The sea observer can effectively monitor the variation of the drift wave-induced force on the vessel and activate Neural Network (NN) compensator in the controller when large wave force is identified. Moreover, the wind drag coefficients can be adaptively approximated in the sea observer so that a feedforward control can be achieved. Based on this, a robust constrained control is developed to guarantee a safe operation. The time delay inside the control input is also considered. Dynamic thrust allocation module is presented to distribute the generalized control input among azimuth thrusters. Under the proposed sea observer and control, the boundedness of all the closed-loop signals are demonstrated via rigorous Lyapunov analysis. A set of simulation studies are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

We propose a cosmological scenario which describes the evolution history of the universe based on the particle creation and holographic equipartition. The model attempts to solve the inflation of the early universe and the accelerated expansion of the present universe without introducing the dark energy from the perspective of thermodynamics. Throughout the evolution of the universe, we assume that the universe always creates particles in some way and holographic equipartition is always satisfied. Further, we choose that the creation rate of particles is proportional to $H^{2}$ in the early universe and to $H$ in the present and late universe, where $H$ is the Hubble parameter. Then we obtain the solutions $a(t)\propto e^{αt/3}$ and $a(t)\propto t^{1/2}$ for the early universe and the solutions $a(t)\propto t^δ$ and $a(t)\propto e^{Ht}$ for the present and late universe, where $α$ and $δ$ are the parameters. Finally, we obtain and analyze two important thermodynamic properties for the present model.

A saliency guided hierarchical visual tracking (SHT) algorithm containing global and local search phases is proposed in this paper. In global search, a top-down saliency model is novelly developed to handle abrupt motion and appearance variation problems. Nineteen feature maps are extracted first and combined with online learnt weights to produce the final saliency map and estimated target locations. After the evaluation of integration mechanism, the optimum candidate patch is passed to the local search. In local search, a superpixel based HSV histogram matching is performed jointly with an L2-RLS tracker to take both color distribution and holistic appearance feature of the object into consideration. Furthermore, a linear refinement search process with fast iterative solver is implemented to attenuate the possible negative influence of dominant particles. Both qualitative and quantitative experiments are conducted on a series of challenging image sequences. The superior performance of the proposed method over other state-of-the-art algorithms is demonstrated by comparative study.

In this paper, a robust visual tracking approach via mixed model based convolutional neural networks (SDT) is developed. In order to handle abrupt or fast motion, a prior map is generated to facilitate the localization of region of interest (ROI) before the deep tracker is performed. A top-down saliency model with nineteen shallow cues are employed to construct the prior map with online learnt combination weights. Moreover, apart from a holistic deep learner, four local networks are also trained to learn different components of the target. The generated four local heat maps will facilitate to rectify the holistic map by eliminating the distracters to avoid drifting. Furthermore, to guarantee the instance for online update of high quality, a prioritised update strategy is implemented by casting the problem into a label noise problem. The selection probability is designed by considering both confidence values and bio-inspired memory for temporal information integration. Experiments are conducted qualitatively and quantitatively on a set of challenging image sequences. Comparative study demonstrates that the proposed algorithm outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Researches in the several decades have shown that the dynamics of gravity is closely related to thermodynamics of the horizon. In this paper, we derive the Friedmann acceleration equation based on the idea of "emergence of space" and thermodynamics of the Hubble horizon whose temperature is obtained from the unified first law of thermodynamics. Then we derive another evolution equation of the universe based on the energy balance relation $ρV_{H}=TS$. Combining the two evolution equations and the equation of state of the cosmic matter, we obtain the evolution solutions of the FRW universe. We find that the solutions obtained by us include the solutions obtained in the standard general relativity(GR) theory. Therefore, it is more general to describe the evolution of the universe in the thermodynamic way.

The other method makes use of the theory of hypergeometric motives, in particular, adapts the techniques from the recent work of Beukers, Cohen and Mellit on finite hypergeometric sums over $\mathbb Q$. We use our multivariable period functions to construct formulas for the number of $\mathbb{F}_p$-points on the generalized Picard curves. Colloids and proteins alike can bind to lipid bilayers and move laterally in these two-dimensional fluids. Inspired by proteins that generate membrane curvature, sense the underlying membrane geometry, and migrate to high curvature sites, we explore the question: Can colloids, adhered to lipid bilayers, also sense and respond to membrane geometry? We report the curvature migration of Janus microparticles adhered to giant unilamellar vesicles elongated to present well defined curvature fields. However, unlike proteins, which migrate to minimize membrane bending energy, colloids migrate by an entirely different mechanism. By determining the energy dissipated along a trajectory, the energy field mediating these interactions is inferred to be linear in the local deviatoric curvature, as reported previously for colloids trapped at curved interfaces between immiscible fluids. In this latter system, however, the energy gradients are far larger, so particles move deterministically, whereas the colloids on vesicles move with significant fluctuations in regions of weak curvature gradient. By addressing the role of Brownian motion, we show that the observed curvature migration of colloids on bilayers is indeed a case of curvature capillary migration, with membrane tension playing the role of interfacial tension. Furthermore, since this motion is mediated by membrane tension and shape, it can be modulated, or even turned "on" and "off", by simply varying these parameters. While particle-particle interactions on lipid membranes have been considered in many contributions, we report here an exciting and previously unexplored modality to actively direct the migration of colloids to desired locations on lipid bilayers.

Using a comparison between the classical gamma function and its finite field analogue the Gauss sum, we give a systematic way to obtain certain types of hypergeometric transformation and evaluation formulas over finite fields and interpret them geometrically using a Galois representation perspective. As an application, we obtain a few finite field analogues of algebraic hypergeometric identities, quadratic and higher transformation formulas, and evaluation formulas. We further apply these finite field formulas to compute the number of rational points of certain hypergeometric varieties.

Our aim is to investigate the thermodynamic properties of the universe bounded by the cosmological event horizon and dominated by the tachyon fluid. We give two different laws of evolution of our universe. Further, we show the first law and the generalized second law of thermodynamics (GSLT) are both satisfied in two cases, but their properties of the thermodynamic equilibrium are totally different. Besides, under our solutions, we find the validity of the laws of thermodynamics is irrelevant with the parameters of the tachyon fluid. Finally, we conclude that the universe bounded by the cosmological event horizon and dominated by the tachyon fluid has a good thermodynamic description. In turn, the thermodynamic description can provide a good physical interpretation for the dynamic evolution of our universe due to the equivalence between the first law of thermodynamics and the Friedmann equation to some extent.

We study the d-wave holographic superconductors (the d-wave model proposed in [arXiv:1003.2991[hep-th]]) immersed in constant external magnetic fields by using the analytic matching method and numerical computation. In the probe limit, we calculate the spatially dependent condensate solution in the presence of the magnetism and find that the expression for the upper critical magnetic field satisfies the relation given in the Ginzburg-Landau theory. The result shows that the upper critical field gradually increases to its maximum value $B_{c2}$ at absolute zero temperature T=0, while vanishing at the critical temperature $T=T_c$. Moving away from the probe limit, we investigate the effect of spacetime backreaction on the critical temperature and the upper critical magnetic field. The magnetic fields as well as the electric fields acting as gravitational sources reduce the critical temperature of the superconductor and actually result in a dyonic black hole solution to the leading order. We obtain the expression for the upper critical magnetic field up to $\mathcal{O}(κ^2)$ order. The analytic result is consistent with the numerical findings.
