Vehicles and road infrastructure are starting to be equipped with vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication solutions to increase road safety and provide new services to drivers and passengers. In Europe, the deployment is based on a set of Release 1 standards developed by ETSI to support basic use cases for cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS). For them, the capacity of a single 10 MHz channel in the ITS band at 5.9 GHz is considered sufficient. At the same time, the ITS stakeholders are working towards several advanced use cases, which imply a significant increment of data traffic and the need for multiple channels. To address this issue, ETSI has recently standardized a new multi-channel operation (MCO) concept for flexible, efficient, and future-proof use of multiple channels. This new concept is defined in a set of new specifications that represent the foundation for the future releases of C-ITS standards. The present paper provides a comprehensive review of the new set of specifications, describing the main entities extending the C-ITS architecture at the different layers of the protocol stack, In addition, the paper provides representative examples that describe how these MCO standards will be used in the future and discusses some of the main open issues arising. The review and analysis of this paper facilitate the understanding and motivation of the new set of Release 2 ETSI specifications for MCO and the identification of new research opportunities.

Let $E$ and $F$ be complex Banach spaces, $U$ be an open subset of $E$ and $1\leq p\leq\infty$. We introduce and study the notion of a Cohen strongly $p$-summing holomorphic mapping from $U$ to $F$, a holomorphic version of a strongly $p$-summing linear operator. For such mappings, we establish both Pietsch domination/factorization theorems and analyse their linearizations from $\mathcal{G}^\infty(U)$ (the canonical predual of $\mathcal{H}^\infty(U)$) and their transpositions on $\mathcal{H}^\infty(U)$. Concerning the space $\mathcal{D}_p^{\mathcal{H}^\infty}(U,F)$ formed by such mappings and endowed with a natural norm $d_p^{\mathcal{H}^\infty}$, we show that it is a regular Banach ideal of bounded holomorphic mappings generated by composition with the ideal of strongly $p$-summing linear operators. Moreover, we identify the space $(\mathcal{D}_p^{\mathcal{H}^\infty}(U,F^*),d_p^{\mathcal{H}^\infty})$ with the dual of the completion of tensor product space $\mathcal{G}^\infty(U)\otimes F$ endowed with the Chevet--Saphar norm $g_p$.

5G has been designed to support applications such as connected and automated driving. To this aim, 5G includes a highly flexible New Radio (NR) interface that can be configured to utilize different subcarrier spacings (SCS), slot durations, scheduling, and retransmissions mechanisms. This flexibility can be exploited to support advanced V2X services with strict latency and reliability requirements using V2N2V (Vehicle-to-Network-to-Vehicles) communications instead of direct or sidelink V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle). To analyze this possibility, this paper presents a novel analytical model that estimates the latency of 5G at the radio network level. The model accounts for the use of different numerologies (SCS, slot durations and Cyclic Prefixes), modulation and coding schemes, full-slots or mini-slots, semi-static and dynamic scheduling, different retransmission mechanisms, and broadcast/multicast or unicast transmissions. The model has been used to first analyze the impact of different 5G NR radio configurations on the latency. We then identify which radio configurations and scenarios can 5G NR satisfy the latency and reliability requirements of V2X services using V2N2V communications. This paper considers cooperative lane changes as a case study. The results show that 5G can support advanced V2X services at the radio network level using V2N2V communications under certain conditions that depend on the radio configuration, bandwidth, service requirements and cell traffic load.

5G networks provide higher flexibility and improved performance compared to previous cellular technologies. This has raised expectations on the possibility to support advanced V2X services using the cellular network via Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) and V2N2V connections. Replacing direct V2V connections by V2N/V2N2V communications to support critical V2X services requires low V2N/V2N2V latencies. It is then necessary to quantify the latency values that V2N and V2N2V connections can achieve over 5G end-to-end (E2E) connections, but these depend on the particular 5G network deployments and configurations and to date the number of related studies is limited. This paper progresses the state-of-the-art by introducing a novel E2E latency model to quantify the latency of 5G V2N/V2N2V communications. The model includes the latency introduced at the radio, transport, core, Internet, peering points and application server (AS) for single MNO and multi-MNO scenarios. This paper estimates the E2E latency for a large variety of possible 5G network deployments that are being discussed or envisioned to support V2X services. This includes the possibility to deploy the V2X AS from the edge of the network to the cloud. The model is utilized to analyze the impact of different 5G network deployments and configurations on the E2E latency. The analysis helps identify which 5G network deployments and configurations are more suitable to meet V2X latency requirements. The conducted analysis highlights the challenge for centralized network deployments that locate the V2X AS at the cloud to meet the latency requirements of advanced V2X services. Locating the V2X AS closer to the cell edge reduces the latency. However, it requires a higher number of ASs and also a careful dimensioning of the network and its configuration to ensure sufficient network and AS resources are dedicated to serve the V2X traffic.

The critical nature of vehicular communications requires their extensive testing and evaluation. Analytical models can represent an attractive and cost-effective approach for such evaluation if they can adequately model all underlying effects that impact the performance of vehicular communications. Several analytical models have been proposed to date to model vehicular communications based on the IEEE 802.11p (or DSRC) standard. However, existing models normally model in detail the MAC (Medium Access Control), and generally simplify the propagation and interference effects. This reduces their value as an alternative to evaluate the performance of vehicular communications. This paper addresses this gap, and presents new analytical models that accurately model the performance of vehicle-to-vehicle communications based on the IEEE 802.11p standard. The models jointly account for a detailed modeling of the propagation and interference effects, as well as the impact of the hidden terminal problem. The model quantifies the PDR (Packet Delivery Ratio) as a function of the distance between transmitter and receiver. The paper also presents new analytical models to quantify the probability of the four different types of packet errors in IEEE 802.11p. In addition, the paper presents the first analytical model capable to accurately estimate the Channel Busy Ratio (CBR) metric even under high channel load levels. All the analytical models are validated by means of simulation for a wide range of parameters, including traffic densities, packet transmission frequencies, transmission power levels, data rates and packet sizes. An implementation of the models is provided openly to facilitate their use by the community.

Most V2X applications/services are supported by the continuous exchange of broadcast messages. One of the main challenges is to increase the reliability of broadcast transmissions that lack of mechanisms to assure the correct delivery of the messages. To address this issue, one option is the use of acknowledgments. However, this option has scalability issues when applied to broadcast transmissions because multiple vehicles can transmit acknowledgments simultaneously. To control scalability while addressing reliability of broadcast messages, this paper proposes and evaluates a context-based broadcast acknowledgement mechanism where the transmitting vehicles selectively request the acknowledgment of specific/critical broadcast messages, and performs retransmissions if they are not correctly received. In addition, the V2X applications/services identify the situations/conditions that trigger the execution of the broadcast acknowledgment mechanism, and the receiver(s) that should acknowledge the broadcast messages. The paper evaluates the performance of the context-based broadcast acknowledgment mechanism for a Collective Perception Service. The obtained results show the proposed mechanism can contribute to improve the awareness of crossing pedestrians at intersections by increasing the reliability in the exchange of CPM messages between vehicles approaching the intersection. This solution is being discussed under IEEE 802.11bd, and thus can be relevant for the standardization process.

Based on an equivalence relation that was established recently on exponential sums, in this paper we study the class of functions that are equivalent to the Riemann zeta function in the half-strip $\{s\in\mathbb{C}:\operatorname{Re}s>1\}$. In connection with this class of functions, we first determine the value of the maximum abscissa from which the images of any function in it cannot take a prefixed argument. The main result shows that each of these functions experiments a vortex-like behavior in the sense that the main argument of its images varies indefinitely near the vertical line $\operatorname{Re}s=1$. In particular, regarding the Riemann zeta function $ζ(s)$, for every $σ_0>1$ we can assure the existence of a relatively dense set of real numbers $\{t_m\}_{m\geq 1}$ such that the parametrized curve traced by the points $(\operatorname{Re}(ζ(σ+it_m)),\operatorname{Im}(ζ(σ+it_m)))$, with $σ\in(1,σ_0)$, makes a prefixed finite number of turns around the origin.

Most V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) applications rely on broadcasting awareness messages known as CAM (Cooperative Awareness Messages) in ETSI or BSM (Basic Safety Message) in SAE standards. A large number of studies have been devoted to guarantee their reliable transmission. However, to date, the studies are generally based on simplified data traffic models that generate awareness messages at periodic intervals or with a constant message size. These models do not accurately represent the real generation of CAM messages that follow specific mobility-based rules. Using simplified and unrealistic traffic models can significantly impact the results and validity of the studies, and hence accurate models for the generation of awareness messages are necessary. This paper proposes the first set of models that can realistically generate CAM messages. The models have been created from real traces collected by two car manufacturers in urban, sub-urban and highway test drives. The models are based on mth order Markov sources, and model the size of CAMs and the time interval between CAMs. The models are openly provided to the community and can be easily integrated into any simulator.

A construction analogous to that of Godefroy-Kalton for metric spaces allows to embed isometrically, in a canonical way, every quasi-metric space $(X,d)$ to an asymmetric normed space $\mathcal{F}_a(X,d)$ (its quasi-metric free space, also called asymmetric free space or semi-Lipschitz free space). The quasi-metric free space satisfies a universal property (linearization of semi-Lipschitz functions). The (conic) dual of $\mathcal{F}_a(X,d)$ coincides with the nonlinear asymmetric dual of $(X,d)$, that is, the space $\mathrm{SLip}_0(X,d)$ of semi-Lipschitz functions on $(X,d)$, vanishing at a base point. In particular, for the case of a metric space $(X,D)$, the above construction yields its usual free space. On the other hand, every metric space $(X,D)$ inherits naturally a canonical asymmetrization coming from its free space $\mathcal{F}(X)$. This gives rise to a quasi-metric space $(X,D_+)$ and an asymmetric free space $\mathcal{F}_a(X,D_+)$. The symmetrization of the latter is isomorphic to the original free space $\mathcal{F}(X)$. The results of this work are illustrated with explicit examples.

Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) utilize a variety of onboard sensors to sense their surrounding environment. CAVs can improve their perception capabilities if vehicles exchange information about what they sense using V2X communications. This is known as cooperative or collective perception (or sensing). A frequent transmission of collective perception messages could improve the perception capabilities of CAVs. However, this improvement can be compromised if vehicles generate too many messages and saturate the communications channel. An important aspect is then when vehicles should generate the perception messages. ETSI has proposed the first set of message generation rules for collective perception. These rules define when vehicles should generate collective perception messages and what should be their content. We show that the current rules generate a high number of collective perception messages with information about a small number of detected objects. This results in an inefficient use of the communication channel that reduces the effectiveness of collective perception. We address this challenge and propose an improved algorithm that modifies the generation of collective perception messages. We demonstrate that the proposed solution improves the reliability of V2X communication and the perception of CAVs.

Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) networks can operate without cellular infrastructure support. Vehicles can autonomously select their radio resources using the sensing-based Semi-Persistent Scheduling (SPS) algorithm specified by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The sensing nature of the SPS scheme makes C-V2X communications prone to the well-known hidden-terminal problem. To address this problem, this paper proposes a novel geo-based scheduling scheme that allows vehicles to autonomously select their radio resources based on the location and ordering of neighboring vehicles on the road. The proposed scheme results in an implicit resource selection coordination between vehicles (even with those outside the sensing range) that reduces packet collisions. This paper evaluates analytically and through simulations the proposed scheduling scheme. The obtained results demonstrate that it reduces packet collisions and significantly increases the C-V2X performance compared to when using the sensing-based SPS scheme.

Vehicular networks require vehicles to periodically transmit 1-hop broadcast packets in order to detect other vehicles in their local neighborhood. Many vehicular applications depend on the correct reception of these packets that are transmitted on a common control channel. Vehicles will actually be required to simultaneously execute multiple applications. The transmission of the broadcast packets should hence be configured to satisfy the requirements of all applications while controlling the channel load. This can be challenging when vehicles simultaneously run multiple applications, and each application has different requirements that vary with the vehicular context (e.g. speed and density). In this context, this paper proposes and evaluates different techniques to dynamically adapt the rate and power of 1-hop broadcast packets per vehicle in multi-application scenarios. The proposed techniques are designed to satisfy the requirements of multiple simultaneous applications and reduce the channel load. The evaluation shows that the proposed techniques significantly decrease the channel load, and can better satisfy the requirements of multiple applications compared to existing approaches, in particular the Message Handler specified in the SAE J2735 DSRC Message Set Dictionary.

Connected and automated vehicles will enable advanced traffic safety and efficiency applications thanks to the dynamic exchange of information between vehicles, and between vehicles and infrastructure nodes. Connected vehicles can utilize IEEE 802.11p for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. However, a widespread deployment of connected vehicles and the introduction of connected automated driving applications will notably increase the bandwidth and scalability requirements of vehicular networks. This paper proposes to address these challenges through the adoption of heterogeneous V2V communications in multi-link and multi-RAT vehicular networks. In particular, the paper proposes the first distributed (and decentralized) context-aware heterogeneous V2V communications algorithm that is technology and application agnostic, and that allows each vehicle to autonomously and dynamically select its communications technology taking into account its application requirements and the communication context conditions. This study demonstrates the potential of heterogeneous V2V communications, and the capability of the proposed algorithm to satisfy the vehicles' application requirements while approaching the estimated upper bound network capacity.

In fact, with respect to the topology of uniform convergence, we prove that the limit points of the family of translates of an almost periodic function are precisely the functions which are equivalent to it, which leads us to a characterization of almost periodicity. In fact, the main result of this paper consists of a result like Bohr's equivalence theorem extended to the case of these functions.

Abstract:
For pointed compact metric spaces $(X,d)$, we address the biduality problem as to when the space of Lipschitz functions $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d)$ is isometrically isomorphic to the bidual of the space of little Lipschitz functions $\mathrm{lip}_0(X,d)$, and show that this is the case whenever the closed unit ball of $\mathrm{lip}_0(X,d)$ is dense in the closed unit ball of $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d)$ with r…

For pointed compact metric spaces $(X,d)$, we address the biduality problem as to when the space of Lipschitz functions $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d)$ is isometrically isomorphic to the bidual of the space of little Lipschitz functions $\mathrm{lip}_0(X,d)$, and show that this is the case whenever the closed unit ball of $\mathrm{lip}_0(X,d)$ is dense in the closed unit ball of $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d)$ with respect to the topology of pointwise convergence. Then we apply our density criterion to prove in an alternate way the real version of a classical result which asserts that $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d^α)$ is isometrically isomorphic to $\mathrm{lip}_0(X,d^α)^{**}$ for any $α$ in $(0,1)$.

On the real projection of the zeros of 1+2^s+...+n^s

Abstract:
In this paper, we focus on the existence of accumulation points of the subset defined by the real projection of the zeros of the partial sums of the Riemann zeta functions. That would imply the existence of an infinite amount of zeros of the partial sums of the Riemann zeta functions arbitrarily close to a line parallel to the imaginary axis passing through every accumulation point.
