Inverse modelling with deep learning algorithms involves training deep architecture to predict device's parameters from its static behaviour. Inverse device modelling is suitable to reconstruct drifted physical parameters of devices temporally degraded or to retrieve physical configuration. There are many variables that can influence the performance of an inverse modelling method. In this work the authors propose a deep learning method trained for retrieving physical parameters of Level-3 model of Power Silicon-Carbide MOSFET (SiC Power MOS). The SiC devices are used in applications where classical silicon devices failed due to high-temperature or high switching capability. The key application of SiC power devices is in the automotive field (i.e. in the field of electrical vehicles). Due to physiological degradation or high-stressing environment, SiC Power MOS shows a significant drift of physical parameters which can be monitored by using inverse modelling. The aim of this work is to provide a possible deep learning-based solution for retrieving physical parameters of the SiC Power MOSFET. Preliminary results based on the retrieving of channel length of the device are reported. Channel length of power MOSFET is a key parameter involved in the static and dynamic behaviour of the device. The experimental results reported in this work confirmed the effectiveness of a multi-layer perceptron designed to retrieve this parameter.

Polygonal meshes have become the standard for discretely approximating 3D shapes, thanks to their efficiency and high flexibility in capturing non-uniform shapes. This non-uniformity, however, leads to irregularity in the mesh structure, making tasks like segmentation of 3D meshes particularly challenging. Semantic segmentation of 3D mesh has been typically addressed through CNN-based approaches, leading to good accuracy. Recently, transformers have gained enough momentum both in NLP and computer vision fields, achieving performance at least on par with CNN models, supporting the long-sought architecture universalism. Following this trend, we propose a transformer-based method for semantic segmentation of 3D mesh motivated by a better modeling of the graph structure of meshes, by means of global attention mechanisms. In order to address the limitations of standard transformer architectures in modeling relative positions of non-sequential data, as in the case of 3D meshes, as well as in capturing the local context, we perform positional encoding by means the Laplacian eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix, replacing the traditional sinusoidal positional encodings, and by introducing clustering-based features into the self-attention and cross-attention operators. Experimental results, carried out on three sets of the Shape COSEG Dataset, on the human segmentation dataset proposed in Maron et al., 2017 and on the ShapeNet benchmark, show how the proposed approach yields state-of-the-art performance on semantic segmentation of 3D meshes.

In recent years, deep learning has been successfully applied in various scientific domains. Following these promising results and performances, it has recently also started being evaluated in the domain of radio astronomy. In particular, since radio astronomy is entering the Big Data era, with the advent of the largest telescope in the world - the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), the task of automatic object detection and instance segmentation is crucial for source finding and analysis. In this work, we explore the performance of the most affirmed deep learning approaches, applied to astronomical images obtained by radio interferometric instrumentation, to solve the task of automatic source detection. This is carried out by applying models designed to accomplish two different kinds of tasks: object detection and semantic segmentation. The goal is to provide an overview of existing techniques, in terms of prediction performance and computational efficiency, to scientists in the astrophysics community who would like to employ machine learning in their research.

New developments in data processing and visualization are being made in preparation for upcoming radioastronomical surveys planned with the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and its precursors. A major goal is enabling extraction of science information from the data in a mostly automated way, possibly exploiting the capabilities offered by modern computing infrastructures and technologies. In this context, the integration of source analysis algorithms into data visualization tools is expected to significantly improve and speed up the cataloguing process of large area surveys. To this aim, the CIRASA (Collaborative and Integrated platform for Radio Astronomical Source Analysis) project was recently started to develop and integrate a set of services for source extraction, classification and analysis into the ViaLactea visual analytic platform and knowledge base archive. In this contribution, we will present the project objectives and tools that have been developed, interfaced and deployed so far on the prototype European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) infrastructure provided by the H2020 NEANIAS project.

The utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) applications has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, bringing forth numerous benefits and conveniences. However, this expansion has also provoked ethical concerns, such as privacy breaches, algorithmic discrimination, security and reliability issues, transparency, and other unintended consequences. To determine whether a global consensus exists regarding the ethical principles that should govern AI applications and to contribute to the formation of future regulations, this paper conducts a meta-analysis of 200 governance policies and ethical guidelines for AI usage published by public bodies, academic institutions, private companies, and civil society organizations worldwide. We identified at least 17 resonating principles prevalent in the policies and guidelines of our dataset, released as an open-source database and tool. We present the limitations of performing a global scale analysis study paired with a critical analysis of our findings, presenting areas of consensus that should be incorporated into future regulatory efforts. Innovative developments in data processing, archiving, analysis, and visualization are nowadays unavoidable to deal with the data deluge expected in next-generation facilities for radio astronomy, such as the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and its precursors. In this context, the integration of source extraction and analysis algorithms into data visualization tools could significantly improve and speed up the cataloguing process of large area surveys, boosting astronomer productivity and shortening publication time. To this aim, we are developing a visual analytic platform (CIRASA) for advanced source finding and classification, integrating state-of-the-art tools, such as the CAESAR source finder, the ViaLactea Visual Analytic (VLVA) and Knowledge Base (VLKB). In this work, we present the project objectives and the platform architecture, focusing on the implemented source finding services.

Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) have recently been applied successfully to a variety of vision and multimedia tasks, thus driving development of novel solutions in several application domains. Document analysis is a particularly promising area for DCNNs: indeed, the number of available digital documents has reached unprecedented levels, and humans are no longer able to discover and retrieve all the information contained in these documents without the help of automation. Under this scenario, DCNNs offers a viable solution to automate the information extraction process from digital documents. Within the realm of information extraction from documents, detection of tables and charts is particularly needed as they contain a visual summary of the most valuable information contained in a document. For a complete automation of visual information extraction process from tables and charts, it is necessary to develop techniques that localize them and identify precisely their boundaries. In this paper we aim at solving the table/chart detection task through an approach that combines deep convolutional neural networks, graphical models and saliency concepts. In particular, we propose a saliency-based fully-convolutional neural network performing multi-scale reasoning on visual cues followed by a fully-connected conditional random field (CRF) for localizing tables and charts in digital/digitized documents. Performance analysis carried out on an extended version of ICDAR 2013 (with annotated charts as well as tables) shows that our approach yields promising results, outperforming existing models.
