In this paper we study phase transitions in a maximally symmetric composite Higgs model with next-to-minimal coset, where a pseudoscalar singlet emerges alongside the Higgs doublet. The maximal symmetry guarantees the finiteness of the radiatively generated scalar potential. We explore the scenario involving an explicit source of CP violation in the strong sector, which induces a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ asymmetric scalar potential, and consequently leads to nonzero vacuum expectation value for the singlet. Current experimental bounds from the LHC are imposed on the masses of the composite resonances, while the CP violating interactions of the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons are tightly constrained from the measurements of the electric dipole moment of the electron. We compute the finite temperature corrections to the potential, incorporating the momentum-dependent form factors in the loop integrals to capture the effect of the strong dynamics. The impact of the resonances from the strong sector on the finite temperature potential are exponentially suppressed. The presence of explicit CP violation leads to strong first-order phase transition from a false vacuum to the electroweak vacuum where the pseudoscalar singlet has a non-zero vacuum expectation value. We illustrate that, as a result of such phase transitions, the production of potentially observable gravitational waves at future detectors will offer a complementary avenue to probe the composite Higgs models, distinct from collider experiments.

Abstract:
We revisit phase transitions in Twin Higgs (TH) models. We show that strong first-order phase transitions (FOPTs) can occur provided that appropriate source of $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry breaking between the twin and Standard Model (SM) sectors is present. We found FOPTs in two classes of models. First: with hard $\mathbb{Z}_2$ breaking in the scalar potential allowing for FOPT. Second: with…

Second: with $\mathbb{Z}_2$ broken by enhanced Yukawa couplings of twin leptons. We also considered supersymmetric UV completion of the second scenario with light sleptons. The signal of gravitational waves produced during these phase transitions is typically small but can be close to the reach of AEDGE and Einstein Telescope in the case of the FOPT induced by light twin sleptons. Our results open a way to generate SM baryon asymmetry in TH models.

We study the ultimate bounds on the sensitivity of a Bloch-oscillation atom interferometer where the external force is estimated from the measurement of the on-site atomic density. For external forces such that the energy difference between lattice sites is smaller than the tunneling energy, the atomic wave-function spreads over many lattice sites, increasing the separation between the occupied modes of the lattice and naturally enhancing the sensitivity of the interferometer. To investigate the applicability of this scheme we estimate the effect of uncontrolled fluctuations of the tunneling energy and the finite resolution of the atom detection. Our analysis shows that a horizontal lattice combined with a weak external force allow for high sensitivities. Therefore, this setup is a promising solution for compact devices or for measurements with high spatial resolution.
