Finite Abelian Groups with Toroidal Subgroup Lattices
Abstract: In this paper, we determine the genus of the subgroup lattice of several families of abelian groups. In doing so, we classify all finite abelian groups whose subgroup lattices can be embedded into the torus.

Probing Lithium Ion Transport at Individual Interfaces
Abstract: Ion transport across solid solid interfaces is often slower than through the bulk of a material, impeding the charge and discharge rate of batteries. Designing highly conductive interfaces is challenging due to the need to probe ion conduction at individual interfaces and correlate it with the local structure. In this study, we address this challenge by enabling the simultaneous measurements of lo… ▽ More

Cosmic Ray Anisotropy with 11 Years of IceCube Data
Abstract: The IceCube Observatory provides our highest-statistics picture of the cosmic-ray arrival directions in the Southern Hemisphere, with over 700 billion cosmic-ray-induced muon events collected between May 2011 and May 2022. Using the larger data volume, we find an improved significance of the PeV cosmic ray anisotropy down to scales of $6^\circ$. In addition, we observe a variation in the angular p… ▽ More

Monodromy Groups of Dessins d'Enfant on Rational Polygonal Billiards Surfaces
Abstract: A dessin d'enfant, or dessin, is a bicolored graph embedded into a Riemann surface, and the monodromy group is an algebraic invariant of the dessin generated by rotations of edges about black and white vertices. A rational polygonal billiards surface is a Riemann surface that arises from the dynamical system of billiards within a rational-angled polygon. In this paper, we compute the monodromy gro… ▽ More

Observation of Cosmic Ray Anisotropy with Nine Years of IceCube Data
Abstract: The IceCube Observatory has collected over 577 billion cosmic-ray induced muon events in its final configuration from May 2011 to May 2020. We used this data set to provide an unprecedented statistically accurate map of the cosmic ray arrival direction distribution in the TeV-PeV energy range scale in the Southern Hemisphere. Such an increase in event statistics makes it possible to extend the sen… ▽ More

Monodromy Groups of Dessins d'Enfant on Rational Triangular Billiards Surfaces
Abstract: A dessin d'enfant, or dessin, is a bicolored graph embedded into a Riemann surface, and the monodromy group is an algebraic invariant of the dessin generated by rotations of edges about black and white vertices. A rational billiards surface is a two dimensional surface that allows one to view the path of a billiards ball as a continuous path. In this paper, we classify the monodromy groups of dess… ▽ More

Euler-Poincaré formulae for positive depth Bernstein projectors
Abstract: Work of Bezrukavnikov-Kazhdan-Varshavsky uses an equivariant system of trivial idempotents of Moy-Prasad groups to obtain an Euler-Poincaré formula for the r-depth Bernstein projector. Barbasch-Ciubotaru-Moy use depth-zero cuspidal representations of parahoric subgroups to decompose the Euler-Poincaré presentation of the depth-zero projector. For positive depth $r$, we establish a decomposition of… ▽ More

The Distance to a Squarefree Polynomial Over $\mathbb{F}_2[x]$
Abstract: In this paper, we examine how far a polynomial in $\mathbb{F}_2[x]$ can be from a squarefree polynomial. For any $ε>0$, we prove that for any polynomial $f(x)\in\mathbb{F}_2[x]$ with degree $n$, there exists a squarefree polynomial $g(x)\in\mathbb{F}_2[x]$ such that $\mathrm{deg} (g) \le n$ and $L_{2}(f-g)<(\ln n)^{2\ln(2)+ε}$ (where $L_{2}$ is a norm to be defined). Peter--Weyl Iwahori algebras
Abstract: The Peter-Weyl idempotent $e_{\mathcal{P}}$ of a parahoric subgroup ${\mathcal{P}}$ is the sum of the idempotents of irreducible representations of $\mathcal{P}$ which have a nonzero Iwahori fixed vector. The convolution algebra associated to $e_{\mathcal{P}}$ is called a Peter-Weyl Iwahori algebra. We show any Peter-Weyl Iwahori algebra is Morita equivalent to the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. Shabat Polynomials and Monodromy Groups of Trees Uniquely Determined by their Passport
Abstract: A dessin d'enfant, or dessin, is a bicolored graph embedded into a Riemann surface. Acyclic dessins can be described analytically by pre-images of certain polynomials, called Shabat polynomials, and also algebraically by their monodromy groups, that is, the group generated by rotations of edges about black and white vertices. In this paper we investigate the Shabat polynomials and monodromy groups… ▽ More

Stanley sequences with odd character
Abstract: Given a set of integers containing no 3-term arithmetic progressions, one constructs a Stanley sequence by choosing integers greedily without forming such a progression. Independent Stanley sequences are a "well-structured" class of Stanley sequences with two main parameters: the character $λ(A)$ and the repeat factor $ρ(A)$. Rolnick conjectured that for every… ▽ More

Computations with Bernstein projectors of SL(2)
Abstract: For the p-adic group G=SL (2) , we present results of the computations of the sums of the Bernstein projectors of a given depth. Motivation for the computations is based on a conversation with Roger Howe in August 2013. The computations are elementary, but they provide an expansion of the delta distribution δ_{1_G} into an infinite sum of G -invariant locally integrable essentially compact distrib… ▽ More

On Existence of Generic Cusp Forms on Semisimple Algebraic Groups
Abstract: In this paper we discuss the existence of certain classes of cuspidal automorphic representations having non-zero Fourier coefficients for general semisimple algebraic group $G$ defined over a number field $k$ such that its Archimedean group $G_\infty$ is not compact. When $G$ is quasi--split over $k$, we obtain a result on existence of generic cuspidal automorphic representations which generalize… ▽ More

Novel structures in Stanley sequences
Abstract: Given a set of integers with no three in arithmetic progression, we construct a Stanley sequence by adding integers greedily so that no arithmetic progression is formed. This paper offers two main contributions to the theory of Stanley sequences. First, we characterize well-structured Stanley sequences as solutions to constraints in modular arithmetic, defining the modular Stanley sequences. Secon… ▽ More

On the Cusp Forms of Congruence Subgroups of an almost Simple Lie group
Abstract: In this paper we address the issue of existence of cusp forms for almost simple Lie groups using the approach of the second author combined with local information on supercuspidal representations for $p$-adic groups known by the first author. We pay special attention to the case of $SL_M(\Bbb R)$ where we prove various existence results for principal congruence subgroups.

On the Growth of the Counting Function of Stanley Sequences
Abstract: Given a finite set of nonnegative integers A with no 3-term arithmetic progressions, the Stanley sequence generated by A, denoted S(A), is the infinite set created by beginning with A and then greedily including strictly larger integers which do not introduce a 3-term arithmetic progressions in S(A).
