Effective model for a short Josephson junction with a phase discontinuity
Abstract: We consider a short Josephson junction with a phase discontinuity $κ$ created, e.g., by a pair of tiny current injectors, at some point $x_0$ along the length of the junction. We derive the effective current-phase relation (CPR) for the system as a whole, i.e., reduce it to an effective point-like junction. From the effective CPR we obtain the ground state of the system and predict the dependence… ▽ More

Thermal and electromagnetic properties of Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_8$ intrinsic Josephson junction stacks studied via one-dimensional coupled sine-Gordon equations

The junctions in the stack are combined to $M$ segments where we assume that inside a segment all junctions behave identically. Most simul… ▽ More

Effect of current injection into thin-film Josephson junctions
Abstract: New thin-film Josephson junctions have recently been tested in which the current injected into one of the junction banks governs Josephson phenomena. One thus can continuously manage the phase distribution at the junction by changing the injected current. A method of calculating the distribution of injected currents is proposed for a half-infinite thin-film strip with source-sink points at arbitra… ▽ More

Fraunhofer patterns for Josephson junctions in narrow thin-films with vortices trapped in one of the banks
Abstract: It is shown that a vortex trapped in one of the banks of a planar edge-type Josephson junction in a narrow thin-film superconducting strip can change drastically the field dependence of the junction critical current $I_c(H)$. When the vortex is trapped at certain positions in the strip middle, the pattern $I_c(H)$ has zero at $H=0$ instead of the traditional maximum of '0-type' junctions. The numb… ▽ More

Interaction of Josephson junction and distant vortex in narrow thin-film superconducting strips
Abstract: The phase difference between the banks of an edge-type planar Josephson junction crossing the narrow thin-film strip depends on wether or not vortices are present in the junction banks. For a vortex close to the junction this effect has been seen by Golod, Rydh, and Krasnov, \prl {\bf 104}, 227003 (2010), who showed that the vortex may turn the junction into $π$-type. It is shown here that even if… ▽ More

Phase retrapping in a pointlike $\varphi$ Josephson junction: the Butterfly effect
Abstract: We consider a $\varphi$ Josephson junction, which has a bistable zero-voltage state with the stationary phases $ψ=\pm\varphi$. In the non-zero voltage state the phase "moves" viscously along a tilted periodic double-well potential. When the tilting is reduced quasistatically, the phase is retrapped in one of the potential wells. We study the viscous phase dynamics to determine in which well (… ▽ More

Modeling the linewidth dependence of coherent terahertz emission from intrinsic Josephson junction stacks in the hot-spot regime
Abstract: Recently it has been found that, when operated at large input power, the linewidth of terahertz radiation emitted from intrinsic Josephson junction stacks can be as narrow as some megahertz. In this high-bias regime a hot spot coexists with regions which are still superconducting. Surprisingly, the linewidth was found to decrease with increasing bath temperature.
