This study investigates the orbital decay and subsequent reentries of 12 Starlink satellites from 16 April to 15 May 2024. By examining Two-Line Element data, we observed a significant increase in orbital decay following the geomagnetic storm on 10 May 2024, consistent with expectations of increased thermospheric density. An unexpected increase in decay rates for 10 satellites was identified around 25 April 2024, while two lower-altitude satellites remained unaffected. Detailed analysis revealed that this enhanced decay rate prior to the storm was influenced by a spike in the O/N2 ratio and an increase in Extreme Ultra Violet (EUV) flux. Moreover, most of the satellites exhibited sharp decay during the early recovery phase of the geomagnetic storm. Based on the positions and local times of changes in decay rates, it is likely that the satellites were affected by various processes during elevated space weather activity, such as enhanced EUV flux, Joule heating, particle precipitation, and the equatorial neutral anomaly. This study highlights the complex role of preconditioning due to enhanced EUV flux and extreme space weather activity in the orbital dynamics of Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.

In the field of object detection, domain generalisation (DG) aims to ensure robust performance across diverse and unseen target domains by learning the robust domain-invariant features corresponding to the objects of interest across multiple source domains. While there are many approaches established for performing DG for the task of classification, there has been a very little focus on object detection. In this paper, we propose a domain penalisation (DP) framework for the task of object detection, where the data is assumed to be sampled from multiple source domains and tested on completely unseen test domains. We assign penalisation weights to each domain, with the values updated based on the detection networks performance on the respective source domains. By prioritising the domains that needs more attention, our approach effectively balances the training process. We evaluate our solution on the GWHD 2021 dataset, a component of the WiLDS benchmark and we compare against ERM and GroupDRO as these are primarily loss function based. Our extensive experimental results reveals that the proposed approach improves the accuracy by 0.3 percent and 0.5 percent on validation and test out-of-distribution (OOD) sets, respectively for FasterRCNN. We also compare the performance of our approach on FCOS detector and show that our approach improves the baseline OOD performance over the existing approaches by 1.3 percent and 1.4 percent on validation and test sets, respectively. This study underscores the potential of performance based domain penalisation in enhancing the generalisation ability of object detection models across diverse environments.

We study the fundamental properties of pointwise semi-Lipschitz functions between asymmetric spaces, which are the natural asymmetric counterpart of pointwise Lipschitz functions. We also study the influence that partial symmetries of a given space may have on the behavior of pointwise semi-Lipschitz functions defined on it. Furthermore, we are interested in characterizing the pointwise semi-Lipschitz structure of an asymmetric space in terms of real-valued pointwise semi-Lipschitz functions defined on it. By using two algebras of functions naturally associated to our spaces of pointwise real-valued semi-Lipschitz functions, we are able to provide two Banach-Stone type results in this context. In fact, these results are obtained as consequences of a general Banach-Stone type theorem of topological nature, stated for abstract functional spaces, which is quite flexible and can be applied to many spaces of continuous functions over metric and asymmetric spaces.

A system was built for reading the uploaded marksheet using OCR and automatically filling the rows/ columns in the online form. Though there are partial solutions to this problem - implemented using PyTesseract - the accuracy is low. Hence, the PaddleOCR was used to build the marksheet parser. Several pre-processing and post-processing steps were also performed. The system was tested and evaluated for seven states. Further work is being done and the system is being evaluated for more states and boards of India.

In this work we provide a generalization of the celebrated Myers-Nakai Theorem for Riemannian manifolds to the framework of non-reversible Finsler manifolds, based on the ideas used in a previous generalization for reversible Finsler manifolds proved in \cite{GJR-13}. In the reversible (i.e. metric) case, the function space used to characterize Finsler isometries is the normed algebra $C^1_b(M)$, of bounded and $C^1$-smooth real valued functions with bounded derivative on a Finsler manifold $M$, endowed with its natural norm. This function space had to be adapted in order for it to reflect the quasi-metric structure of non-reversible Finsler manifolds, resulting in a partial loss of the normed space structure. In order to achieve the desired result, we define new algebraic/quasi-metric structures to model the behavior of the aforementioned function space. The construction is based on the cone of smooth semi-Lipschitz functions.

The mouth, often regarded as a window to the internal state of the body, plays an important role in reflecting one's overall health. Poor oral hygiene has far-reaching consequences, contributing to severe conditions like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, while inadequate care leads to discomfort, pain, and costly treatments. Federated Learning (FL) for object detection can be utilized for this use case due to the sensitivity of the oral image data of the patients. FL ensures data privacy by storing the images used for object detection on the local device and trains the model on the edge. The updated weights are federated to a central server where all the collected weights are updated via The Federated Averaging algorithm. Finally, we have developed a mobile app named OralH which provides user-friendly solutions, allowing people to conduct self-assessments through mouth scans and providing quick oral health insights. Upon detection of the issues, the application alerts the user about potential oral health concerns or diseases and provides details about dental clinics in the user's locality. Designed as a Progressive Web Application (PWA), the platform ensures ubiquitous access, catering to users across devices for a seamless experience. The application aims to provide state-of-the-art segmentation and detection techniques, leveraging the YOLOv8 object detection model to identify oral hygiene issues and diseases. This study deals with the benefits of leveraging FL in healthcare with promising real-world results.

Lifetime models with a non-monotone hazard rate $\hspace{0.12cm}$ function have a wide range of applications in engineering and lifetime data analysis. There are different bathtub shaped failure rate models that are available in reliability literature. Kavya and Manoharan (2021) introduced a new transformation called KM-transformation which was found to be more useful in reliability and lifetime data analysis. Power generalization technique would be the best approach to deal with a system whose components are connected in series, in which the distribution of the component is KM-transformation of any lifetime model. In this article, we introduce a new lifetime model, Power Generalized KM-Transformation (PGKM) for Non-Monotone Failure Rate Distribution, which shows monotone and non-monotone behavior for the hazard rate function for different choices of values of parameters. We derive the moments, moment generating function, characteristic function, quantiles, entropy etc of the proposed distribution. Distributions of minimum and maximum are obtained. Estimation of parameters of the distribution is performed via maximum likelihood method. A simulation study is performed to validate the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). Analysis of three sets of real data are given.

The problem of spontaneous vacuum decay in low-energy collisions of heavy nuclei is considered beyond the scope of the monopole approximation. The time-dependent Dirac equation is solved in a rotating coordinate system with $z$-axis directed along the internuclear line and the origin placed at the center of mass. The probabilities of electron-positron pair creation and the positron energy spectra are calculated in the approximation neglecting the rotational coupling. The two-center potential is expanded over spherical harmonics and the convergence with respect to the number of terms in this expansion is studied. The results show that taking into account the two-center potential instead of its spherically symmetric part preserves all the signatures of the transition to the supercritical regime that have been found in the framework of the monopole approximation and even enhances some of them.

The Euclid mission of the European Space Agency will perform a survey of weak lensing cosmic shear and galaxy clustering in order to constrain cosmological models and fundamental physics. We expand and adjust the mock Euclid likelihoods of the MontePython software in order to match the exact recipes used in previous Euclid Fisher matrix forecasts for several probes: weak lensing cosmic shear, photometric galaxy clustering, the cross-correlation between the latter observables, and spectroscopic galaxy clustering. We also establish which precision settings are required when running the Einstein-Boltzmann solvers CLASS and CAMB in the context of Euclid. For the minimal cosmological model, extended to include dynamical dark energy, we perform Fisher matrix forecasts based directly on a numerical evaluation of second derivatives of the likelihood with respect to model parameters. We compare our results with those of other forecasting methods and tools. We show that such MontePython forecasts agree very well with previous Fisher forecasts published by the Euclid Collaboration, and also, with new forecasts produced by the CosmicFish code, now interfaced directly with the two Einstein-Boltzmann solvers CAMB and CLASS. Moreover, to establish the validity of the Gaussian approximation, we show that the Fisher matrix marginal error contours coincide with the credible regions obtained when running Monte Carlo Markov Chains with MontePython while using the exact same mock likelihoods. The new Euclid forecast pipelines presented here are ready for use with additional cosmological parameters, in order to explore extended cosmological models.

Most of the smart applications, such as smart energy metering devices, demand strong privacy preservation to strengthen data privacy. However, it is difficult to protect the privacy of the smart device data, especially on the client side. It is mainly because payment for billing is computed by the server deployed at the client's side, and it is highly challenging to prevent the leakage of client's information to unauthorised users. Various researchers have discussed this problem and have proposed different privacy preservation techniques. Conventional techniques suffer from the problem of high computational and communication overload on the client side. In addition, the performance of these techniques deteriorates due to computational complexity and their inability to handle the security of large-scale data. Due to these limitations, it becomes easy for the attackers to introduce malicious attacks on the server, posing a significant threat to data security. In this context, this proposal intends to design novel privacy preservation and secure billing framework using deep learning techniques to ensure data security in smart energy metering devices. This research aims to overcome the limitations of the existing techniques to achieve robust privacy preservation in smart devices and increase the cyber resilience of these devices.

In this work we make use of available Integral Field Unit (IFU) spectroscopy and slit spectra of several nearby galaxies. The pre-existing empirical R and S calibrations for abundance determinations are constructed using a sample of HII regions with high quality slit spectra. In this paper, we test the applicability of those calibrations to the IFU spectra. We estimate the calibration-based abundances obtained using both the IFU and the slit spectroscopy for eight nearby galaxies. The median values of the slit and IFU spectra-based abundances in bins of 0.1 in fractional radius Rg (normalized to the optical radius) of a galaxy are determined and compared. We find that the IFU and the slit spectra-based abundances obtained through the R calibration are close to each other, the mean value of the differences of abundances is 0.005 dex and the scatter in the differences is 0.037 dex for 38 datapoints. The S calibration can produce systematically underestimated values of the IFU spectra-based abundances at high metallicities, the mean value of the differences is -0.059 dex for 21 datapoints, while at lower metallicities the mean value of the differences is -0.018 dex and the scatter is 0.045 dex for 36 data points. This evidences that the R calibration produces more consistent abundance estimations between the slit and the IFU spectra than the S calibration. We find that the same calibration can produce close estimations of the abundances using IFU spectra obtained with different spatial resolution and different spatial samplings. This is in line with the recent finding that the contribution of the diffuse ionized gas to the large aperture spectra of HII regions has a secondary effect.

Taking inspiration from natural language embeddings, we present ASTROMER, a transformer-based model to create representations of light curves. ASTROMER was pre-trained in a self-supervised manner, requiring no human-labeled data. We used millions of R-band light sequences to adjust the ASTROMER weights. The learned representation can be easily adapted to other surveys by re-training ASTROMER on new sources. The power of ASTROMER consists of using the representation to extract light curve embeddings that can enhance the training of other models, such as classifiers or regressors. As an example, we used ASTROMER embeddings to train two neural-based classifiers that use labeled variable stars from MACHO, OGLE-III, and ATLAS. In all experiments, ASTROMER-based classifiers outperformed a baseline recurrent neural network trained on light curves directly when limited labeled data was available. Furthermore, using ASTROMER embeddings decreases computational resources needed while achieving state-of-the-art results. Finally, we provide a Python library that includes all the functionalities employed in this work. The library, main code, and pre-trained weights are available at https://github.com/astromer-science

The radiation observed in quasars and active galactic nuclei is mainly produced by a relativistic plasma orbiting close to the black hole event horizon, where strong gravitational effects are relevant. The observational data of such systems can be compared with theoretical models to infer the black hole and plasma properties. In the comparison process, ray tracing algorithms are essential to computing the trajectories followed by the photons from the source to our telescopes. In this paper, we present OSIRIS: a new stable FORTRAN code capable of efficiently computing null geodesics around compact objects, including general relativistic effects such as gravitational lensing, redshift, and relativistic boosting. The algorithm is based on the Hamiltonian formulation and uses different integration schemes to evolve null geodesics while tracking the error in the Hamiltonian constrain to ensure physical results. We found from an error analysis that the integration schemes are all stable, and the best one maintains an error below $10^{-11}$. Particularly, to test the robustness and ability of the code to evolve geodesics in curved spacetime, we compute the shadow and Einstein rings of a Kerr black hole with different rotation parameters and obtain the image of a thin Keplerian accretion disk around a Schwarzschild black hole. Although OSIRIS is parallelized neither with MPI nor with CUDA, the computation times are of the same order as those reported by other codes with these types of parallel computing platforms.

Coral reefs play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the marine ecosystem. Various marine organisms depend on coral reefs for their existence and their natural processes. Coral reefs provide the necessary habitat for reproduction and growth for various exotic species of the marine ecosystem. In this article, we discuss the most important parameters which influence the lifecycle of coral and coral reefs such as ocean acidification, deoxygenation and other physical parameters such as flow rate and surface area. Ocean acidification depends on the amount of dissolved Carbon dioxide (CO2). This is due to the release of H+ ions upon the reaction of the dissolved CO2 gases with the calcium carbonate compounds in the ocean. Deoxygenation is another problem that leads to hypoxia which is characterized by a lesser amount of dissolved oxygen in water than the required amount for the existence of marine organisms. In this article, we highlight the importance of physical parameters such as flow rate which influence gas exchange, heat dissipation, bleaching sensitivity, nutrient supply, feeding, waste and sediment removal, growth and reproduction. In this paper, we also bring out these important parameters and propose an ensemble machine learning-based model for analyzing these parameters and provide better rates that can help us to understand and suitably improve the ocean composition which in turn can eminently improve the sustainability of the marine ecosystem, mainly the coral reefs

The personalized list continuation (PLC) task is to curate the next items to user-generated lists (ordered sequence of items) in a personalized way. The main challenge in this task is understanding the ternary relationships among the interacting entities (users, items, and lists) that the existing works do not consider. Further, they do not take into account the multi-hop relationships among entities of the same type. In addition, capturing the sequential information amongst the items already present in the list also plays a vital role in determining the next relevant items that get curated.
In this work, we propose HyperTeNet -- a self-attention hypergraph and Transformer-based neural network architecture for the personalized list continuation task to address the challenges mentioned above. We use graph convolutions to learn the multi-hop relationship among the entities of the same type and leverage a self-attention-based hypergraph neural network to learn the ternary relationships among the interacting entities via hyperlink prediction in a 3-uniform hypergraph. Further, the entity embeddings are shared with a Transformer-based architecture and are learned through an alternating optimization procedure. As a result, this network also learns the sequential information needed to curate the next items to be added to the list. Experimental results demonstrate that HyperTeNet significantly outperforms the other state-of-the-art models on real-world datasets. The proposed distribution is applied to model real data sets.

Quantum resources and protocols are known to outperform their classical counterparts in variety of communication and information processing tasks. Random Access Codes (RACs) are one such cryptographically significant family of bipartite communication tasks, wherein, the sender encodes a data set (typically a string of input bits) onto a physical system of bounded dimension and transmits it to the receiver, who then attempts to guess a randomly chosen part of the sender's data set (typically one of the sender's input bits). In this work, we introduce a generalization of this task wherein the receiver, in addition to the individual input bits, aims to retrieve randomly chosen functions of sender's input string. Specifically, we employ sets of mutually unbiased balanced functions (MUBS), such that perfect knowledge of any one of the constituent functions yields no knowledge about the others. We investigate and bound the performance of (i.) classical, (ii.) quantum prepare and measure, and (iii.) entanglement assisted classical communication (EACC) protocols for the resultant generalized RACs (GRACs). Finally, we detail the case of GRACs with three input bits, find maximal success probabilities for classical, quantum and EACC protocols, along with the effect of noisy quantum channels on the performance of quantum protocols. Moreover, with the help of this case study, we reveal several characteristic properties of the GRACs which deviate from the standard RACs.

Multifunctional-therapeutic 3D scaffolds have been prepared. These biomaterials are able to destroy the S. aureus bacteria biofilm and to allow bone regeneration at the same time. The present study is focused on the design of pH sensitive 3D hierarchical meso-macroporous scaffolds based on MGHA nanocomposite formed by a mesostructured glassy network with embedded hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, whose mesopores have been loaded with levofloxacin as antibacterial agent. These 3D platforms exhibit controlled and pH-dependent levofloxacin release, sustained over time at physiological pH (7.4) and notably increased at infection pH (6.7 and 5.5), which is due to the different interaction rate between diverse levofloxacin species and the silica matrix. These 3D systems are able to inhibit the S. aureus growth and to destroy the bacterial biofilm without cytotoxic effects on human osteoblasts and allowing an adequate colonization and differentiation of preosteoblastic cells on their surface. These findings suggest promising applications of these hierarchical MGHA nanocomposite scaffolds for the treatment and prevention of bone infection.

The use of abundance ratios involving Y, or other slow-neutron capture elements, are routinely used to infer stellar ages.Aims.We aim to explain the observed [Y/H] and [Y/Mg] abundance ratios of star clusters located in the inner disc with a new prescription for mixing in Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars. In a Galactic chemical evolution model, we adopt a new set of AGB stellar yields in which magnetic mixing is included. We compare the results of the model with a sample of abundances and ages of open clusters located at different Galactocentric distances. The magnetic mixing causes a less efficient production of Y at high metallicity. A non-negligible fraction of stars with super-solar metallicity is produced in the inner disc, and their Y abundances are affected by the reduced yields. The results of the new AGB model qualitatively reproduce the observed trends for both [Y/H] and [Y/Mg] vs age at different Galactocetric distances. Our results confirm from a theoretical point of view that the relationship between [Y/Mg] and stellar age cannot be universal, i.e., the same in every part of the Galaxy. It has a strong dependence on the star formation rate, on the s-process yields and their relation with metallicity, and thus it varies across the Galactic disc.

Mahalanobis taguchi system (MTS) is a multi-variate statistical method extensively used for feature selection and binary classification problems. The calculation of orthogonal array and signal-to-noise ratio in MTS makes the algorithm complicated when more number of factors are involved in the classification problem. Also the decision is based on the accuracy of normal and abnormal observations of the dataset. In this paper, a multiclass model using Improved Mahalanobis Taguchi System (IMTS) is proposed based on normal observations and Mahalanobis distance for agriculture development. Twenty-six input factors relevant to crop cultivation have been identified and clustered into six main factors for the development of the model. The multiclass model is developed with the consideration of the relative importance of the factors. An objective function is defined for the classification of three crops, namely paddy, sugarcane and groundnut. The classification results are verified against the results obtained from the agriculture experts working in the field. The proposed classifier provides 100% accuracy, recall, precision and 0% error rate when compared with other traditional classifier models.

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) have been attracting attention from many researchers. Vision-based sensors are the closest way to emulate human driver visual behavior while driving. In this paper, we explore possible ways to use visual attention (saliency) for object detection and tracking. We investigate: 1) How a visual attention map such as a \emph{subjectness} attention or saliency map and an \emph{objectness} attention map can facilitate region proposal generation in a 2-stage object detector; 2) How a visual attention map can be used for tracking multiple objects. We propose a neural network that can simultaneously detect objects as and generate objectness and subjectness maps to save computational power. We further exploit the visual attention map during tracking using a sequential Monte Carlo probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter. The experiments are conducted on KITTI and DETRAC datasets. The use of visual attention and hierarchical features has shown a considerable improvement of $\approx$8\% in object detection which effectively increased tracking performance by $\approx$4\% on KITTI dataset.

Cross-Domain Collaborative Filtering (CDCF) provides a way to alleviate data sparsity and cold-start problems present in recommendation systems by exploiting the knowledge from related domains. Existing CDCF models are either based on matrix factorization or deep neural networks. Either of the techniques in isolation may result in suboptimal performance for the prediction task. Also, most of the existing models face challenges particularly in handling diversity between domains and learning complex non-linear relationships that exist amongst entities (users/items) within and across domains. In this work, we propose an end-to-end neural network model -- NeuCDCF, to address these challenges in a cross-domain setting. More importantly, NeuCDCF follows a wide and deep framework and it learns the representations combinedly from both matrix factorization and deep neural networks. We perform experiments on four real-world datasets and demonstrate that our model performs better than state-of-the-art CDCF models.

Classification of this manifold leads to four characteristic values of energy, that correspond to four different types of pair clusters of Mn ions: the nearest, second, third etc. neighbors. All the four energies show up in a single experiment with a very high precision, providing experimental grounds for a deeper understanding of the d-d exchange interactions in a diluted magnetic semiconductor and demonstrating the capacity of the employed method. The major (nearest-neighbor) exchange constant J_1 = 6.15 K was found to consent with its previously reported value. Other detected characteristic energies are as follows: J_{(2)} = 1.80 K, J_{(3)} = 1.39 K, J_{(4)} = 0.81 K.

Agricultural production is affected by climate extremes, which are increasing because of global warming. This motivates the need of a proper evaluation of the agricultural production systems resilience to enhance food security, market stability, and the general ability of society to cope with the effects of climate change. Resilience is generally assessed through holistic approaches involving a large number of indicators for the environmental, social and economic factors that influence food availability, access and utilization. Here, we investigate the problem of measuring resilience in a simplified framework, focusing on the crop production component of the agricultural system. For an idealized production system composed of a single crop, using the original definition of resilience, we identify the best combination of the mean and the variance of annual crop production data to estimate crop resilience i.e. the crop resilience indicator. Through numerical experiments conducted with a conceptual crop model, we show the general properties of this indicator applied to production systems for different levels of adaptation to climate variability and in case of increasing frequencies of extreme events. Finally, we discuss the applicability of the proposed approach to real agricultural production systems and the expected effects of crop diversity on the resilience of crop production systems, following directly from the mathematical definition of the crop resilience indicator.

In this paper, the stability analysis of an anaerobic digestion process is presented. The analysis is performed using a simplified mathematical model, which includes explicit temperature and pH dependence on kinetic growth rates. A detailed nonlinear and bifurcation analyses are performed in order to study the effects of temperature and pH parameters on the process behaviour. In addition, both safety and optimal operation regions of the bioreactor are established. Based on bifurcation diagrams, it is observed that the washout condition occurs by combining a fold bifurcation and a transcritical bifurcation. Consequently, to prevent the washout and guarantee optimal operation conditions of the bioreactor, a risk criterion oriented to monitor the bioprocess on-line is proposed, allowing to detect the system destabilisation.

We have developed SmartConnect, a tool that addresses the growing need for the design and deployment of multihop wireless relay networks for connecting sensors to a control center. Given the locations of the sensors, the traffic that each sensor generates, the quality of service (QoS) requirements, and the potential locations at which relays can be placed, SmartConnect helps design and deploy a low- cost wireless multihop relay network. SmartConnect adopts a field interactive, iterative approach, with model based network design, field evaluation and relay augmentation per- formed iteratively until the desired QoS is met. The design process is based on approximate combinatorial optimization algorithms. In the paper, we provide the design choices made in SmartConnect and describe the experimental work that led to these choices. We provide results from some experimental deployments. Finally, we conduct an experimental study of the robustness of the network design over long time periods (as channel conditions slowly change), in terms of the relay augmentation and route adaptation required.

Radio galaxy phenomenon is directly connected to mass accreting, spinning supermassive black holes found in the active galactic nuclei (AGN). It is still unclear how the collimated jets of relativistic plasma on hundreds to thousands of kpc scale form, and why nearly always they are launched from the nuclei of bulge dominated elliptical galaxies and not flat spirals. Here we present the discovery of giant radio source J2345-0449 (z=0.0755), a clear and extremely rare counter example where relativistic jets are ejected from a luminous and massive spiral galaxy on scale of ~1.6 Mpc, the largest known so far. Extreme physical properties observed for this bulgeless spiral host, such as its high optical and infra-red luminosity, large dynamical mass, rapid disk rotation, and episodic jet activity are possibly the results of its unusual formation history, which has also assembled, via gas accretion from a disk, its central black hole of mass >2 x 10^8 M_sun. The very high mid-IR luminosity of the galaxy suggests that it is actively forming stars and still building a massive disk. We argue that the launch of these powerful jets is facilitated by an advection dominated, magnetized accretion flow at low Eddington rate onto this unusually massive (for a bulgeless disk galaxy) and possibly fast-spinning central black hole. Therefore, J2345-0449 is an extremely rare, unusual galactic system whose properties challenge the standard paradigms for black hole growth and formation of relativistic jets in disk galaxies. Thus, it provides fundamental insight into accretion disk -- relativistic jet coupling processes.

It has been experimentally observed that humans accomplish the task of way-finding a destination in an unknown environment by recognizing landmarks. Investigations using network analytic techniques reveal that humans, when asked to way-find their destination, learn the top ranked nodes of a network. In this paper we report a study simulating the strategy used by humans to recognize the centers of a network. We show that the paths obtained from our simulation has the same properties as the paths obtained in human based experiment. The simulation thus performed leads to a novel way of path-finding in a network. One of the fundamental data transmission mechanisms in Ethernet LAN is broadcasting. Flooding is a direct broadcasting technique used in these networks. A significant drawback of this method is that it can lead to broadcast storms. This phenomenon is more common in multivendor switch environment. Broadcast storms usually results in dissension, collision and redundancy leading to degradation of the network performance. Most of the storms appear without much warning and it affects the efficiency of network even in situations when the network is expected to work most efficiently. There are several characteristic patterns by which storm can appear in a LAN, like rate monotonic repetition, transient appearances with different types of growth properties and decay profiles. In this paper we discuss the storm build up pattern in an industry and present various reasons for storm in LAN. We have identified a strategy for controlling network storms, using multiple static agents. These agents inhibit storm packet regeneration in the network using the knowledge of storm growth pattern. A model developed out of empirical studies is used to differentiate normal packet growth from storm packet growth and used in control mechanism of storms.

We consider a small extent sensor network for event detection, in which nodes take samples periodically and then contend over a {\em random access network} to transmit their measurement packets to the fusion center. We consider two procedures at the fusion center to process the measurements. The Bayesian setting is assumed; i.e., the fusion center has a prior distribution on the change time. In the first procedure, the decision algorithm at the fusion center is \emph{network-oblivious} and makes a decision only when a complete vector of measurements taken at a sampling instant is available. In the second procedure, the decision algorithm at the fusion center is \emph{network-aware} and processes measurements as they arrive, but in a time causal order. In this case, the decision statistic depends on the network delays as well, whereas in the network-oblivious case, the decision statistic does not depend on the network delays. This yields a Bayesian change detection problem with a tradeoff between the random network delay and the decision delay; a higher sampling rate reduces the decision delay but increases the random access delay. Under periodic sampling, in the network--oblivious case, the structure of the optimal stopping rule is the same as that without the network, and the optimal change detection delay decouples into the network delay and the optimal decision delay without the network. In the network--aware case, the optimal stopping problem is analysed as a partially observable Markov decision process, in which the states of the queues and delays in the network need to be maintained. A sufficient statistic for decision is found to be the network-state and the posterior probability of change having occurred given the measurements received and the state of the network. The optimal regimes are studied using simulation.

In this paper we propose an Intelligent Management System which is capable of managing the automobile functions using the rigorous real-time principles and a multicore processor in order to realize higher efficiency and safety for the vehicle. It depicts how various automobile functionalities can be fine grained and treated to fit in real time concepts. It also shows how the modern multicore processors can be of good use in organizing vast amounts of correlated functions to be executed in real-time with excellent time commitments. The modeling of the automobile tasks with real time commitments, organizing appropriate scheduling for various real time tasks and the usage of a multicore processor enables the system to realize higher efficiency and offer better safety levels to the vehicle. The industry available real time operating system is used for scheduling various tasks and jobs on the multicore processor.

In this article we propose a method for measuring internet connection stability which is fast and has negligible overhead for the process of its complexity. This method finds a relative value for representing the stability of internet connections and can also be extended for aggregated internet connections. The method is documented with help of a real time implementation and results are shared. This proposed measurement scheme uses HTTP GET method for each connections. The normalized responses to identified sites like gateways of ISPs, google.com etc are used for calculating current link stability. The novelty of the approach is that historic values are used to calculate overall link stability. In this discussion, we also document a method to use the calculated values as a dynamic threshold metric. This is used in routing decisions and for load-balancing each of the connections in an aggregated bandwidth pipe. This scheme is a very popular practice in aggregated internet connections.
