The oscillations of the heat conductance as a function of the gate voltage of each quantum dot are analysed in both Fermi liquid and non-Fermi liquid regimes. We report some exact results for single-particle Green's functions, self-energy, vertex part and T-matrix. Further we describe the combinatorics of the Feynman diagrams for the Green's function and the skeleton diagrams for the self-energy and vertex, using recurrence relations between the Taylor expansion coefficients of the self-energy. Asymptotically exact equations for the number of skeleton diagrams in the limit of large N are derived. The fundamental question which is addressed here is how the interactions in the charge and spin sectors of an itinerant system affect the quantum impurity physics in the vicinity of the intermediate coupling fixed point. To illustrate the general answer to this question we discuss a two-channel charge Kondo circuit model. We show that the electron-electron interactions resulting in the formation of a massive spin mode in an itinerant electron subset drive the system away from the unstable non-Fermi liquid (NFL) fixed point to the stable Fermi liquid (FL) regime. We discuss the thermoelectric response as a benchmark for the NFL-FL crossover.

The non-Fermi liquid regime of the Kondo problem is achieved in the overscreened sector $\mathcal K>2\mathcal{S}$. We show that there exist two distinct semiclassical regimes for the quantum transport through impurity: i) $\mathcal K$ $\gg$ $\mathcal S$ $\gg$ $1$, differential conductance vanishes and ii) $\mathcal S$$/$$\mathcal K{=}\mathcal C$ with $ 0$$<$$\mathcal C$$<$$1/2$, differential conductance reaches some non-vanishing fraction of its unitary value. Using conformal field theory approach we analyze behavior of the quantum transport observables and residual entropy in both semiclassical regimes. We show that the semiclassical limit ii) preserves the key features of resonance scattering and the most essential fingerprints of the non-Fermi liquid behavior. As a charged fermion realization of the SYK model in nanostructures we assume a setup based on a quantum dot connected to the charge reservoirs through weak tunnel barriers. We analyze particle-hole symmetry breaking effects crucial for both Seebeck and Peltier coefficients. We show that the quantum charge and heat transport at low temperatures are defined by the interplay between elastic and inelastic processes such that the inelastic processes provide a leading contribution to the transport coefficients at the temperatures that are smaller compared to the charging energy. We demonstrate that both electric and thermal conductance obey a power law in temperature behavior, while thermoelectric, Seebeck, and Peltier coefficients are exponentially suppressed. This represents selective suppression of only nondiagonal transport coefficients. We discuss the validity of the Kelvin formula in the presence of a strong Coulomb blockade.

We investigate theoretically quantum transport through the "charge" Kondo circuit consisting of the quantum dot (QD) coupled weakly to an electrode at temperature $T+ΔT$ and connected strongly to another electrode at the reference temperature $T$ by a single-mode quantum point contact (QPC). To account for the effects of Coulomb interaction in the QD-QPC setup operating in the integer quantum Hall regime we describe the edge current in the quantum circuit by Luttinger model characterized by the Luttinger parameter $g$. It is shown that the temperature dependence of both electric conductance $G\propto T^{2/g}$ and thermoelectric coefficient $G_T\propto T^{1+2/g}$ detours from the Fermi-liquid (FL) theory predictions. The behaviour of the thermoelectric power $S=G_T/G\propto T$ in a regime of a single-channel Kondo effect is, by contrast, consistent with the FL paradigm. We demonstrate that the interplay between the mesoscopic Coulomb blockade in QD and weak repulsive interaction in the Luttinger Liquid $g=1-α$ $(α\ll 1)$ results in the enhancement of the thermopower. This enhancement is attributed to suppression of the Kondo correlations in the "charge" circuit by the destructive quantum interference effects.

We investigate theoretically the thermoelectric transport through a circuit implementation of the three-channel "charge" Kondo model quantum simulator [Z. Iftikhar et al., Science 360, 1315 (2018)]. The universal temperature scaling law of the Seebeck coefficient is computed perturbatively approaching the non-Fermi liquid strong coupling fixed point using abelian bosonization technique. The predicted $T^{1/3}\log T$ scaling behavior of the thermoelectric power sheds a light on the properties of $Z_3$ emerging parafermions and gives an access to exploring pre-fractionalized zero modes in the quantum transport experiments. We discuss a generalization of approach for investigating a multi-channel Kondo problem with emergent $Z_N\to Z_M$ crossovers between "weak" non-Fermi liquid regimes corresponding to different low-temperature fixed points.

We develop a theoretical framework to study the influences of coupling asymmetry on the thermoelectrics of a strongly coupled SU($N$) Kondo impurity based on a local Fermi liquid theory. Applying non-equilibrium Keldysh formalism, we investigate charge current driven by the voltage bias and temperature gradient in the strong coupling regime of an asymmetrically coupled SU($N$) quantum impurity. The thermoelectric characterizations are made via non-linear Seebeck effects. We demonstrate that the beyond particle-hole (PH) symmetric SU($N$) Kondo variants are highly desirable with respect to the corresponding PH symmetric setups in order to have significantly improved thermoelectric performance. The greatly enhanced Seebeck coefficients by tailoring the coupling asymmetry of beyond PH symmetric SU($N$) Kondo effects are explored. Apart from presenting the analytical expressions of asymmetry dependent transport coefficients for general SU($N$) Kondo effects, we make a close connection of our findings with the experimentally studied SU(2) and SU(4) Kondo effects in quantum dot nano structures. Seebeck effects associated with the theoretically proposed SU(3) Kondo effects are discussed in detail.

The developed scheme is then employed to study the power output of a SU($N$) Kondo impurity at the strong-coupling regime. The interplay between Kondo resonance and the filling-factors in the SU($N$) quantum systems is found to be a key to enhance output power. Such enhancement results an output power corresponding to $50\%$ of the quantum upper bound. We demonstrate that given a proper tuning of the electron occupancy, the investigated power grows linearly with degeneracy of Kondo state ($N$). This relation can hence be exploited to obtain output power that is larger than the one in existing non interacting setups.

We investigate quantum interference effects in a superconducting Cooper-pair box by taking into account the possibility of tunneling processes involving one and two Cooper pairs. The quantum dynamics is analysed in a framework of three-level model. We compute Landau-Zener probabilities for a linear sweep of the gate charge and investigate Rabi oscillations in a periodically driven three-level system under in- and off- resonance conditions. It was shown that the Landau-Zener probabilities reveal two different patterns: "step" and "beats"-like behaviours associated with the quantum interference effects. Control on these two regimes is provided by change of the ratio between two characteristic time scales of the problem. We demonstrate through the analysis of a periodically driven three-level system, that if a direct transition between certain pairs of levels is allowed and fine-tuned to a resonance, the problem is mapped to the two-level Rabi model. If the transition between pair of levels is forbidden, the off-resonance Rabi oscillations involving second order in tunneling processes are predicted. This effect can be observed by measuring a population difference slowly varying in time between the states of the Cooper-pair box characterised by the same parity.

The interplay between the Kondo effect and magnetic ordering driven by the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction is studied within the two-dimensional Hubbard-Kondo lattice model. In addition to the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction, $J_\perp$, between the localized and the conduction electrons, this model also contains the local repulsion, $U$, between the conduction electrons. We use variational cluster approximation to investigate the competition between the antiferromagnetic phase, the Kondo singlet phase, and a ferrimagnetic phase on square lattice. At half-filling, the Néel antiferromagnetic phase dominates from small to moderate $J_\perp$ and $UJ_\perp$, and the Kondo singlet elsewhere. Sufficiently away from half-filling, the antiferromagnetic phase first gives way to a ferrimagnetic phase (in which the localized spins order ferromagnetically, and the conduction electrons do likewise, but the two mutually align antiferromagnetically), and then to the Kondo singlet phase.

We illustrate the significance of the non-linearities for enhancement of thermopower by two examples of SU(4) symmetric regimes characterized by a filling factor m: i) particle-hole symmetric at m=2 and ii) particle-hole non-symmetric at m=1. We analyse the effects of potential scattering and coupling asymmetry on the transport coefficients. We discuss connections between the theory and transport experiments with coupled quantum dots and carbon nanotubes.

Applying Feynman diagrammatics to non-fermionic strongly correlated models with local constraints might seem generically impossible for two separate reasons: (i) the necessity to have a Gaussian (non-interacting) limit on top of which the perturbative diagrammatic expansion is generated by Wick's theorem, and (ii) the Dyson's collapse argument implying that the expansion in powers of coupling constant is divergent. We show that for arbitrary classical lattice models both problems can be solved/circumvented by reformulating the high-temperature expansion (more generally, any discrete representation of the model) in terms of Grassmann integrals. Discrete variables residing on either links, plaquettes, or sites of the lattice are associated with the Grassmann variables in such a way that the partition function (and correlations) of the original system and its Grassmann-field counterpart are identical. The expansion of the latter around its Gaussian point generates Feynman diagrams. A proof-of-principle implementation is presented for the classical 2D Ising model. Our work paves the way for studying lattice gauge theories by treating bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom on equal footing.

For this purpose a dynamical mode-mode coupling theory is developed based on the coupled Bethe-Salpeter equations. In order to investigate the region of the phase diagram not too far from the tetracritical point where the magnetic spin density wave, (SDW) and superconducting (SC) transition temperatures coincide, we also construct a Ginzburg - Landau functional including both SC and SDW fluctuations in a critical region above the transition temperatures. The fluctuation corrections tend to suppress the magnetic transition, but in the superconducting channel the intraband and interband contribution of the fluctuations nearly compensate each other.

The mechanism of protection is associated with appearance of additional scattering processes due to lack of spin conservation in the presence of both SOI and small Zeemann field. The interplay between in-plane magnetic field $\vec B$ and SOI is controlled by the angle between $\vec B$ and $\vec B_{SOI}$ We predict strong dependence of the thermoelectric coefficients on the orientation of the magnetic field and discuss a window of parameters for experimental observation of NFL effects.

We investigate electron shuttling in three-terminal nanoelectromechanocal device built on a movable metallic rod oscillating between two drains. The device shows a double-well shaped electromechanical potential tunable by a source-drain bias voltage. Four stationary regimes controllable by the bias are found for this device: (i) single stable fixed point, (ii) two stable fixed points, (iii) two limiting cycles, and (iv) single limiting cycle. In the presence of perpendicular magnetic field the Lorentz force makes possible switching from one electromechanical state to another. The mechanism of tunable transitions between various stable regimes based on the interplay between voltage controlled electromechanical instability and magnetically controlled switching is suggested. The switching phenomenon is implemented for achieving both a reliable \emph{active} current switch and sensoring of small variations of magnetic field.

The presence of geometric phases is known to affect the dynamics of the systems involved. Here we consider a quantum degree of freedom, moving in a dissipative environment, whose dynamics is described by a Langevin equation with quantum noise. We show that geometric phases enter the stochastic noise terms. Specifically, we consider small ferromagnetic particles (nano-magnets) or quantum dots close to Stoner instability, and investigate the dynamics of the total magnetization in the presence of tunneling coupling to the metallic leads. We generalize the Ambegaokar-Eckern-Schön (AES) effective action and the corresponding semiclassical equations of motion from the U(1) case of the charge degree of freedom to the SU(2) case of the magnetization. The Langevin forces (torques) in these equations are strongly influenced by the geometric phase. As a first but nontrivial application we predict low temperature quantum diffusion of the magnetization on the Bloch sphere, which is governed by the geometric phase. We propose a protocol for experimental observation of this phenomenon.

We investigate instability and dynamical properties of nanoelectromechanical systems represented by a single-electron device containing movable quantum dot attached to a vibrating cantilever via asymmetric tunnel contact. The Kondo resonance in electron tunneling between source and shuttle facilitates self-sustained oscillations originated from strong coupling of mechanical and electronic/spin degrees of freedom. We analyze stability diagram for two-channel Kondo shuttling regime due to limitations given by the electromotive force acting on a moving shuttle and find that the saturation amplitude of oscillation is associated with the retardation effect of Kondo-cloud. The results shed light on possible ways of experimental realization of dynamical probe for the Kondo-cloud by using high tunability of mechanical dissipation as well as supersensitive detection of mechanical displacement.

We show that the generic Hamiltonians being non-linear in terms of the SU(2) group generators become linear in the SU(3) basis. If the diabatic states of the SU(3) Landau - Zener Hamiltonian form a triangle, the interference between two paths results in formation of "beats" and "steps" pattern in the time-dependent transition probability. The characteristic time scales describing the "beats" and "steps" depend on a dwell time through the triangle. These scales are related to the geometric size of the interferometer. We formulate the SU(3) Landau - Zener problem in terms of Bloch dynamics of a unit vector and find a solution of eight-dimensional Bloch equations in the limit of a non-adiabatic transition. Possible experiments in triangular and linearly arranged triple quantum dots where Landau - Zener interferometry can be used for finding manifestations of SU(3) symmetry are discussed.

We investigate the Landau-Zener transition in two- and three- level systems subject to a classical Gaussian noise. Two complementary limits of the noise being fast and slow compared to characteristic Landau-Zener tunnel times are discussed. The analytical solution of a density matrix (Bloch) equation is given for a long time asymptotic of transition probability. It is demonstrated that the transition probability induced/assisted by the fast noise can be obtained through a procedure of {\it Bloch's equation averaging} with further reduction it to a master equation. In contrast to the case of fast noise, the transition probability for LZ transition induced/assisted by the slow classical noise can be obtained by averaging a {\it solution} of Bloch's equation over the noise realization. As a result, the transition probability is described by the activation Arrhenius law. The approximate solution of the Bloch's equation at finite times is written in terms of Fresnel's integrals and interpreted in terms of interference pattern. We discuss consequences of a local isomorphism between SU(2) and SO(3) groups and connections between Schrödinger and Bloch descriptions of spin dynamics. Based on this isomorphism we establish the relations between S=1/2 and S=1 transition probabilities influenced by the noise. A possibility to use the slow noise as a probe for tunnel time is discussed.

We show that the resonance Kondo tunneling of electrons amplify exponentially the strength of nanoelectromechanical (NEM) coupling in such device and makes the latter to be insensitive to mesoscopic fluctuations of electronic levels in a nano-dot. It is also shown that the study of Kondo-NEM phenomenon provides an additional (as compared with a standard conductance measurements in a non-mechanical device) information on retardation effects in formation of many-particle cloud accompanied the Kondo tunneling. A possibility for superhigh tunability of mechanical dissipation as well as supersensitive detection of mechanical displacement is demonstrated.

Here we present an exact analytical solution of the probem, in particular, in the vicinity of the Stoner instabilty. We calculate the tunneling density of states and the spin susceptibility. We demonstrate that near the Stoner instability the spin susceptibility follows a Curie law with an effective spin. The latter depends logarithmically on temperature due to the statistical fluctuations of the single-particle levels. Near the Stoner instability the tunneling density of states exhibits a non-monotonous behavior as function of the tunneling energy, even at temperatures higher than the exchange energy. This is due to ehnanced spin correlations. Our results could be tested in quantum dots made of nearly ferromagnetic materials.

We consider asymmetric spin-1/2 two-leg ladders with non-equal antiferromagnetic (AF) couplings J_|| and κJ_|| along legs (κ<= 1) and ferromagnetic rung coupling, J_\perp. This model is characterized by a gap Δin the spectrum of spin excitations. We show that in the large J_\perp limit this gap is equivalent to the Haldane gap for the AF spin-1 chain, irrespective of the asymmetry of the ladder. The behavior of the gap at small rung coupling falls in two different universality classes. The first class, which is best understood from the case of the conventional symmetric ladder at κ=1, admits a linear scaling for the spin gap Δ~ J_\perp. The second class appears for a strong asymmetry of the coupling along legs, κJ_|| << J_\perp << J_|| and is characterized by two energy scales: the exponentially small spin gap Δ~ J_\perp \exp(-J_|| / J_\perp), and the bandwidth of the low-lying excitations induced by a Suhl-Nakamura indirect exchange ~ J_\perp^2 /J_|| . We report numerical results obtained by exact diagonalization, density matrix renormalization group and quantum Monte Carlo simulations for the spin gap and various spin correlation functions. Our data indicate that the behavior of the string order parameter, characterizing the hidden AF order in Haldane phase, is different in the limiting cases of weak and strong asymmetry. On the basis of the numerical data, we propose a low-energy theory of effective spin-1 variables, pertaining to large blocks on a decimated lattice.

We consider a spin-1/2 ladder with a ferromagnetic rung coupling J_\perp and inequivalent chains. This model is obtained by a twist (θ) deformation of the ladder and interpolates between the isotropic ladder (θ=0) and the SU(2) ferromagnetic Kondo necklace model (θ=π). We show that the ground state in the (θ,J_\perp) plane has a finite string order parameter characterising the Haldane phase. Twisting the chain introduces a new energy scale, which we interpret in terms of a Suhl-Nakamura interaction. As a consequence we observe a crossover in the scaling of the spin gap at weak coupling from Δ/J_\| \propto J_\perp/J_\| for θ< θ_c \simeq 8π/9 to Δ/J_\| \propto (J_\perp/J_\|)^2 for θ> θ_c. Those results are obtained on the basis of large scale Quantum Monte Carlo calculations.

Abstract:
We study the ground state and excitation spectrum of a quasi one-dimensional nanostructure consisting of a pole and rungs oriented in the opposite directions ("centipede ladder", CL) at quarter filling. The spin and charge excitation spectra are found in the limits of small and large longitudinal hopping $t_\|$ compared to the on-rung hopping rate $t_\perp$ and exchange coupling $I_\perp$. At sm…

At small $t_\|$ the system with ferromagnetic on-rung exchange demonstrates instability against dimerization. Coherent propagation of charge transfer excitons is possible in this limit. At large $t_\|$ CL behaves like two-orbital Hubbard chain, but the gap opens in the charge excitation spectrum thus reducing the symmetry from SU(4) to SU(2). The spin excitations are always gapless and their dispersion changes from quadratic magnon-like for ferromagnetic on-rung exchange to linear spinon-like for antiferromagnetic on-rung exchange in weak longitudinal hopping limit.

Abstract:
We present transport measurements of the Kondo effect in a double quantum dot charged with only one or two electrons, respectively. For the one electron case we observe a surprising quasi-periodic oscillation of the Kondo conductance as a function of a small perpendicular magnetic field |B| \lesssim 50mT. We discuss possible explanations of this effect and interpret it by means of a fine tuning…

For the one electron case we observe a surprising quasi-periodic oscillation of the Kondo conductance as a function of a small perpendicular magnetic field |B| \lesssim 50mT. We discuss possible explanations of this effect and interpret it by means of a fine tuning of the energy mismatch of the single dot levels of the two quantum dots. The observed degree of control implies important consequences for applications in quantum information processing.

We describe the mechanism of charge-spin transformation in a double quantum dot (DQD) with even occupation, where a time dependent gate voltage v(t) is applied to one of its two valleys, whereas the other one is coupled to the source and drain electrodes. The Kondo tunneling regime under strong Coulomb blockade may be realized when the spin spectrum of the DQD is formed by the ground state spin triplet and two singlet excitations. Charge fluctuations induced by v(t) result in transitions within the spin multiplet characterized by the SO(5) dynamical symmetry group. In a weakly non-adiabatic regime the decoherence, dephasing and relaxation processes affect Kondo tunneling. Each of these processes is caused by a special type of dynamical gauge fluctuations, so that one may discriminate between the decoherence in the ground state of a DQD and dephasing at finite temperatures.

We investigate theoretically a mechanically assisted Kondo effect and electric charge shuttling in nanoelectromechanical single-electron transistor (NEM-SET). It is shown that the mechanical motion of the central island (a small metallic particle) with the spin results in the time dependent tunneling width which leads to effective increase of the Kondo temperature. The time-dependent oscillating Kondo temperature T_K(t) changes the scaling behavior of the differential conductance resulting in the suppression of transport in a strong coupling- and its enhancement in a weak coupling regimes. The conditions for fine-tuning of the Abrikosov-Suhl resonance and possible experimental realization of the Kondo shuttling are discussed.
