The strength distributions of the Isoscalar Giant Monopole Resonance (ISGMR) and Isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance (ISGQR) in 142,146-150Nd have been determined via inelastic alpha-particle scattering with the Grand Raiden (GR) Spectrometer at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Japan. In the deformed nuclei 146-150Nd, the ISGMR strength distributions exhibit a splitting into two components, while the nearly spherical nucleus 142Nd displays a single peak in the ISGMR strength distribution. A noteworthy achievement in this study is the first-time detection of overtones in the Isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance (ISGQR) strength distributions within Nd isotopes at an excitation energy around 25 MeV obtained through Multipole Decomposition Analysis (MDA).

We investigate the Navier-Stokes-Cattaneo-Christov (NSC) system in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d\geq3$), a model of heat-conductive compressible flows serving as a finite speed of propagation approximation of the Navier-Stokes-Fourier (NSF) system. Due to the presence of Oldroyd's upper-convected derivatives, the system (NSC) exhibits a \textit{lack of hyperbolicity} which makes it challenging to establish its well-posedness, especially in multi-dimensional contexts. In this paper, within a critical regularity functional framework, we prove the global-in-time well-posedness of (NSC) for initial data that are small perturbations of constant equilibria, uniformly with respect to the approximation parameter $\varepsilon>0$. Then, building upon this result, we obtain the sharp large-time asymptotic behaviour of (NSC) and, for all time $t>0$, we derive quantitative error estimates between the solutions of (NSC) and (NSF). To the best of our knowledge, our work provides the first strong convergence result for this relaxation procedure in the three-dimensional setting and for ill-prepared data.
The (NSC) system is partially dissipative and incorporates both partial diffusion and partial damping mechanisms. To address these aspects and ensure the large-time stability of the solutions, we construct localized-in-frequency perturbed energy functionals based on the hypocoercivity theory. More precisely, our analysis relies on partitioning the frequency space into \textit{three} distinct regimes: low, medium and high frequencies. Within each frequency regime, we introduce effective unknowns and Lyapunov functionals, revealing the spectrally expected dissipative structures.

Recent data on isoscalar giant monopole resonance (ISGMR) in the calcium isotopes $^{40,44,48}$Ca have suggested that $K_τ$, the asymmetry term in the nuclear incompressibility, has a positive value. A value of $K_τ> 0$ is entirely incompatible with present theoretical frameworks and, if correct, would have far-reaching implications on our understanding of myriad nuclear and astrophysical phenomena. This paper presents results of an independent ISGMR measurement with the $^{40,42,44,48}$Ca($α,α^\prime$) reaction at $E_α= 386$ MeV. These results conclusively discount the possibility of a positive value for $K_τ$, and are consistent with the previously-obtained values for this quantity.

Usually, extra higher regularity is assumed to obtain the optimal decay estimates, in comparison with that for the global-in-time existence of solutions. In this paper, we develop a new frequency-localization time-decay property, which enables us to overcome the technical difficulty and improve the minimal decay-regularity for dissipative systems. As an application, it is shown that the optimal decay rate of $L^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$-$L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$ is available for Euler-Maxwell equations with the critical regularity $s_{c}=5/2$, that is, the extra higher regularity is not needed.

To develop and test this capability, a Long Baseline Campaign (LBC) was carried out from September to late November 2014, culminating in end-to-end observations, calibrations, and imaging of selected Science Verification (SV) targets. This paper presents an overview of the campaign and its main results, including an investigation of the short-term coherence properties and systematic phase errors over the long baselines at the ALMA site, a summary of the SV targets and observations, and recommendations for science observing strategies at long baselines. Deep ALMA images of the quasar 3C138 at 97 and 241 GHz are also compared to VLA 43 GHz results, demonstrating an agreement at a level of a few percent. As a result of the extensive program of LBC testing, the highly successful SV imaging at long baselines achieved angular resolutions as fine as 19 mas at ~350 GHz. Observing with ALMA on baselines of up to 15 km is now possible, and opens up new parameter space for submm astronomy.

As a continued work of [18], we are concerned with the Timoshenko system in the case of non-equal wave speeds, which admits the dissipative structure of \textit{regularity-loss}. Firstly, with the modification of a priori estimates in [18], we construct global solutions to the Timoshenko system pertaining to data in the Besov space with the regularity $s=3/2$. Owing to the weaker dissipative mechanism, extra higher regularity than that for the global-in-time existence is usually imposed to obtain the optimal decay rates of classical solutions, so it is almost impossible to obtain the optimal decay rates in the critical space. To overcome the outstanding difficulty, we develop a new frequency-localization time-decay inequality, which captures the information related to the integrability at the high-frequency part. Furthermore, by the energy approach in terms of high-frequency and low-frequency decomposition, we show the optimal decay rate for Timoshenko system in critical Besov spaces, which improves previous works greatly.

Very recently, a new decay framework has been given by [51] for linearized dissipative hyperbolic systems satisfying the Kawashima-Shizuta condition on the framework of Besov spaces, which allows to pay less attention on the traditional spectral analysis. However, owing to interpolation techniques, the analysis remains valid only for nonlinear systems in higher dimensions $(n\geq3)$ and the corresponding case of low dimensions was left open, which provides the main motivation of this work. Firstly, we develop new time-decay properties on the frequency-localization Duhamel principle. Furthermore, it is shown that the classical solution and its derivatives of fractional order decay at the optimal algebraic rate in dimension 1, by time-weighted energy approaches in terms of low-frequency and high-frequency decompositions. Finally, as applications, decay results for several concrete systems subjected to the same dissipative structure as general hyperbolic systems, for instance, damped compressible Euler equations, thermoelasticity with second sound and Timoshenko systems with equal wave speeds, are also obtained.

Due to the dissipative structure of \textit{regularity-loss}, extra higher regularity than that for the global-in-time existence is usually imposed to obtain the optimal decay rates of classical solutions to dissipative systems. The aim of this paper is to seek the lowest regularity index for the optimal decay rate of $L^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Consequently, a notion of minimal decay regularity for dissipative systems of regularity-loss is firstly proposed. To do this, we develop a new time-decay estimate of $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{r}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ type by using the low frequency and high-frequency analysis in Fourier spaces. As an application, for compressible Euler-Maxwell equations with the weaker dissipative mechanism, it is shown that the minimal decay regularity coincides with the critical regularity for global classical solutions. Moreover, the recent decay property for symmetric hyperbolic systems with non-symmetric dissipation is also extended to be the $L^p$-version.

The paper aims at investigating two types of decay structure for linear symmetric hyperbolic systems with non-symmetric relaxation. Precisely, the system is of the type $(p,q)$ if the real part of all eigenvalues admits an upper bound $-c|ξ|^{2p}/(1+|ξ|^2)^{q}$, where $c$ is a generic positive constant and $ξ$ is the frequency variable, and the system enjoys the regularity-loss property if $p<q$. It is well known that the standard type $(1,1)$ can be assured by the classical Kawashima-Shizuta condition. A new structural condition was introduced in \cite{UDK} to analyze the regularity-loss type $(1,2)$ system with non-symmetric relaxation. In the paper, we construct two more complex models of the regularity-loss type corresponding to $p=m-3$, $q=m-2$ and $p=(3m-10)/2$, $q=2(m-3)$, respectively, where $m$ denotes phase dimensions. The proof is based on the delicate Fourier energy method as well as the suitable linear combination of series of energy inequalities. Due to arbitrary higher dimensions, it is not obvious to capture the energy dissipation rate with respect to the degenerate components. Thus, for each model, the analysis always starts from the case of low phase dimensions in order to understand the basic dissipative structure in the general case, and in the mean time, we also give the explicit construction of the compensating symmetric matrix $K$ and skew-symmetric matrix $S$.

This paper is concerned with the decay structure for linear symmetric hyperbolic systems with relaxation. When the relaxation matrix is symmetric, the dissipative structure of the systems is completely characterized by the Kawashima-Shizuta stability condition formulated in \cite{UKS84,SK85}, and we obtain the asymptotic stability result together with the explicit time-decay rate under that stability condition. However, some physical models which satisfy the stability condition have non-symmetric relaxation term (cf.~the Timoshenko system and the Euler-Maxwell system). Moreover, it had been already known that the dissipative structure of such systems is weaker than the standard type and is of the regularity-loss type (cf.~\cite{D,IHK08,IK08,USK,UK}). Therefore our purpose of this paper is to formulate a new structural condition which include the Kawashima-Shizuta condition, and to analyze the weak dissipative structure for general systems with non-symmetric relaxation.

In this paper we focus on the initial value problem for quasi-linear dissipative plate equation in multi-dimensional space $(n\geq2)$. This equation verifies the decay property of the regularity-loss type, which causes the difficulty in deriving the global a priori estimates of solutions. We overcome this difficulty by employing a time-weighted $L^2$ energy method which makes use of the integrability of $\|(\p^2_xu_t,\p^3_xu)(t)\|_{L^{\infty}}$. This $L^\infty$ norm can be controlled by showing the optimal $L^2$ decay estimates for lower-order derivatives of solutions. Thus we obtain the desired a priori estimate which enables us to prove the global existence and asymptotic decay of solutions under smallness and enough regularity assumptions on the initial data. Moreover, we show that the solution can be approximated by a simple-looking function, which is given explicitly in terms of the fundamental solution of a fourth-order linear parabolic equation.

We also investigate, by employing an energy method, the time asymptotic stability of the stationary solution under suitable smallness assumptions, and estimate the convergence rate which coincides with the spatial decay rate of the initial perturbation. The proof is mainly based on a priori estimates, which are derived by a time and space weighted energy method.

Also we compare our results with the corresponding ones for the Allen-Cahn and the Cahn-Hilliard equations coupled with linear elasticity, which are models for diffusion-dominated phase transformations in elastic solids.
