Face detection is frequently attempted by using heavy pre-trained backbone networks like ResNet-50/101/152 and VGG16/19. Few recent works have also proposed lightweight detectors with customized backbones, novel loss functions and efficient training strategies. The novelty of this work lies in the design of a lightweight detector while training with only the commonly used loss functions and learning strategies. The proposed face detector grossly follows the established RetinaFace architecture. The first contribution of this work is the design of a customized lightweight backbone network (BLite) having 0.167M parameters with 0.52 GFLOPs. The second contribution is the use of two independent multi-task losses. The proposed lightweight face detector (FDLite) has 0.26M parameters with 0.94 GFLOPs. The network is trained on the WIDER FACE dataset. FDLite is observed to achieve 92.3\%, 89.8\%, and 82.2\% Average Precision (AP) on the easy, medium, and hard subsets of the WIDER FACE validation dataset, respectively.

Underwater image quality is affected by fluorescence, low illumination, absorption, and scattering. Recent works in underwater image enhancement have proposed different deep network architectures to handle these problems. Most of these works have proposed a single network to handle all the challenges. We believe that deep networks trained for specific conditions deliver better performance than a single network learned from all degradation cases. Accordingly, the first contribution of this work lies in the proposal of an iterative framework where a single dominant degradation condition is identified and resolved. This proposal considers the following eight degradation conditions -- low illumination, low contrast, haziness, blurred image, presence of noise and color imbalance in three different channels. A deep network is designed to identify the dominant degradation condition. Accordingly, an appropriate deep network is selected for degradation condition-specific enhancement. The second contribution of this work is the construction of degradation condition specific datasets from good quality images of two standard datasets (UIEB and EUVP). This dataset is used to learn the condition specific enhancement networks. The proposed approach is found to outperform nine baseline methods on UIEB and EUVP datasets.

The use of complex attention modules has improved the performance of the Visual Question Answering (VQA) task. This work aims to learn an improved multi-modal representation through dense interaction of visual and textual modalities. The proposed model has an attention block containing both self-attention and co-attention on image and text. The self-attention modules provide the contextual information of objects (for an image) and words (for a question) that are crucial for inferring an answer. On the other hand, co-attention aids the interaction of image and text. Further, fine-grained information is obtained from two modalities by using a Cascade of Self- and Co-Attention blocks (CSCA). This proposal is benchmarked on the widely used VQA2.0 and TDIUC datasets. The efficacy of key components of the model and cascading of attention modules are demonstrated by experiments involving ablation analysis.

The dynamics of a particle moving in $\frac{1}{r}$ potential and subjected to a damping force is shown to be regularized a la Levi-Civita. We then generalize this regularization mapping to the case of damped motion in the potential $r^{-\frac{2N}{N+1}}$. Further equation of motion of a damped Kepler motion in 3-dimensions is mapped to an oscillator with inverted sextic potential and couplings, in 4-dimensions using Kustaanheimo-Stiefel regularization method. It is shown that the strength of the sextic potential is given by the damping co-efficient of the Kepler motion. Using homogeneous Hamiltonian formalism, we establish the mapping between the Hamiltonian of these two models. Both in 2 and 3-dimensions, we show that the regularized equation is non-linear, in contrast to undamped cases. Mapping of a particle moving in a harmonic potential subjected to damping to an undamped system with shifted frequency is then derived using Bohlin-Sudman transformation.

In this present communication the integrable modulation problem has been applied to study parametric extension of the Kapitza rotating shaft problem, which is a protypical example of curl force as formulated by Berry and Shukla in [J. Phys. A 45 305201 (2012)] associated with simple saddle potential. The integrable modulation problems yield parametric time dependent integrable systems. The Hamiltonian and first integrals of the linear and nonlinear parametric Kapitza equation (PKE) associated with simple and monkey saddle potentials have been given. The construction has been illustrated by choosing $ω(t) = a + b \cos t$ and that maps to Mathieu type equations, which yield Mathieu extension of PKE. We study the dynamics of these equations. The most interesting finding is the mixed mode of particle trapping and escaping via the heteroclinic orbits depicted with the parametric Mathieu-Kapitza equation which are absent in the case of non parametric cases.

We examine $3D$ flows $\mathbf{\dot{x}}=\mathbf{v}({\bf x})$ admitting vector identity $M\mathbf{v} = \nabla \times \mathbf{A}$ for a multiplier $M$ and a potential field $\mathbf{A}$. It is established that, for those systems, one can complete the vector field $\mathbf{v}$ into a basis fitting an $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$-algebra. Accordingly, in terms of covariant quantities, the structure equations determine a set of equations in Maurer-Cartan form. This realization permits one to obtain the potential field as well as to investigate the (bi-)Hamiltonian character of the system. The latter occurs if the system has a time-independent first integral. In order to exhibit the theoretical results on some concrete cases, three examples are provided, namely the Gulliot system, a system with a non-integrable potential, and the Darboux-Halphen system in symmetric polynomials.

We put forward a general approach to quasi-deform the KdV equation by deforming the corresponding Hamiltonian. Following the standard Abelianization process based on the inherent $sl(2)$ loop algebra, an infinite number of anomalous conservation laws are obtained, which yield conserved charges if the deformed solution has definite space-time parity. Judicious choice of the deformed Hamiltonian leads to an integrable system with scaled parameters as well as to a hierarchy of deformed systems, some of which possibly being quasi-integrable. As a particular case, one such deformed KdV system maps to the known quasi-NLS soliton in the already known weak-coupling limit, whereas a generic scaling of the KdV amplitude $u \to u^{1+ε}$ also goes to possible quasi-integrability under an order-by-order expansion. Following a generic parity analysis of the deformed system, these deformed KdV solutions need to be parity-even for quasi-conservation which may be the case here following our analytical approach. From the established quasi-integrability of RLW and mRLW systems [Nucl. Phys. B 939 (2019) 49-94], which are particular cases of the present approach, exact solitons of the quasi-KdV system could be obtained numerically.

Using the perturbative solutions of the Schrödinger equation of the later systems, we derive the eigen spectrum of the Hydrogen atom in presence of an additional harmonic potential. We have also obtained the mapping of a particle moving in the shifted harmonic potential to H-atom using Bohlin-Sundman transformation, for quantum regime. Exploiting this equivalence, the solution to the Schrödinger equation of the former is obtained from the solutions of the later.

Whenever we speak, our voice is accompanied by facial movements and expressions. Several recent works have shown the synthesis of highly photo-realistic videos of talking faces, but they either require a source video to drive the target face or only generate videos with a fixed head pose. This lack of facial movement is because most of these works focus on the lip movement in sync with the audio while assuming the remaining facial keypoints' fixed nature. To address this, a unique audio-keypoint dataset of over 150,000 videos at 224p and 25fps is introduced that relates the facial keypoint movement for the given audio. This dataset is then further used to train the model, Audio2Keypoint, a novel approach for synthesizing facial keypoint movement to go with the audio. Given a single image of the target person and an audio sequence (in any language), Audio2Keypoint generates a plausible keypoint movement sequence in sync with the input audio, conditioned on the input image to preserve the target person's facial characteristics. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that proposes an audio-keypoint dataset and learns a model to output the plausible keypoint sequence to go with audio of any arbitrary length. Audio2Keypoint generalizes across unseen people with a different facial structure allowing us to generate the sequence with the voice from any source or even synthetic voices. Instead of learning a direct mapping from audio to video domain, this work aims to learn the audio-keypoint mapping that allows for in-plane and out-of-plane head rotations, while preserving the person's identity using a Pose Invariant (PIV) Encoder.

For the first time, both non-holonomic and quasi-integrable deformations are obtained for the AB system of coupled equations. The AB system models geophysical and atmospheric fluid motion along with ultra-short pulse propagation in nonlinear optics and serves as a generalization of the well-known sine-Gordon equation. The non-holonomic deformation retains integrability subjected to higher-order differential constraints whereas the quasi-AB system, which is partially deviated from integrability, is characterized by an infinite subset of quantities (charges) that are conserved only asymptotically given the solution possesses definite space-time parity properties. Particular localized solutions to both these deformations of the AB system are obtained, some of which are qualitatively unique to the corresponding deformation, displaying similarities with physically observed excitations.

Even though there has been tremendous progress in the field of Visual Question Answering, models today still tend to be inconsistent and brittle. To this end, we propose a model-independent cyclic framework which increases consistency and robustness of any VQA architecture. We train our models to answer the original question, generate an implication based on the answer and then also learn to answer the generated implication correctly. As a part of the cyclic framework, we propose a novel implication generator which can generate implied questions from any question-answer pair. As a baseline for future works on consistency, we provide a new human annotated VQA-Implications dataset. The dataset consists of ~30k questions containing implications of 3 types - Logical Equivalence, Necessary Condition and Mutual Exclusion - made from the VQA v2.0 validation dataset. We show that our framework improves consistency of VQA models by ~15% on the rule-based dataset, ~7% on VQA-Implications dataset and robustness by ~2%, without degrading their performance. In addition, we also quantitatively show improvement in attention maps which highlights better multi-modal understanding of vision and language.

In this article, we define an information-theoretic entropy based on the Ihara zeta function of a graph which is called the Ihara entropy. A dynamical system consists of a billiard ball and a set of reflectors correspond to a combinatorial graph. The reflectors are represented by the vertices of the graph. Movement of the billiard ball between two reflectors is represented by the edges. The prime cycles of this graph generate the bi-infinite sequences of the corresponding symbolic dynamical system. The number of different prime cycles of a given length can be expressed in terms of the adjacency matrix of the oriented line graph. It also constructs the formal power series expansion of Ihara zeta function. Therefore, the Ihara entropy has a deep connection with the dynamical system of billiards. As an information-theoretic entropy, it fulfils the generalized Shannon-Khinchin axioms. It is a weakly decomposable entropy whose composition law is given by the Lazard formal group law.

We explore the connection between the equations describing Sisyphus dynamics and the generic Liénard type or Liénard equation from the viewpoint of branched Hamiltonians. The former provides the appropriate setting for classical time crystal being derivable from a higher order Lagrangian. However it appears the equations of Sisyphus dynamics have a close relation with the Liénard-II equation when expressed in terms of the `velocity' variable. Another interesting feature of the equations of Sisyphus dynamics is the appearance of velocity dependent "mass function" in contrast to the more commonly encountered position dependent mass. The consequences of such mass functions seem to have connections to cosmological time crystals .

We analyse the Hamiltonian structure of a system of first-order ordinary differential equations used for modeling the interaction of an oncolytic virus with a tumour cell population. The analysis is based on the existence of a Jacobi Last Multiplier for the system and a time dependent first integral. For suitable conditions on the model parameters this allows for the reduction of the problem to a planar system of equations for which the time dependent Hamiltonian flows are described. The geometry of the Hamiltonian flows are finally investigated using the symplectic and cosymplectic methods.

We consider certain analytical features of a stochastic model that can explain among other things competition among species and simultaneous predation on the competing species from a geometric perspective which allows for a systematic description of models admitting singular Lagrangians. The model equations are shown to admit a Jacobi Last Multiplier which in turn allows for the construction of a Lagrangian. The Lagrangian is of singular nature so that construction of the Hamiltonian via a Legendre transformation is not possible. A Hamiltonian description of the model therefore requires the introduction of Dirac brackets. Explicit results are presented for the "Kill the winner" model and its reductions.

The corresponding potential being asymmetric we invoke the symmetrization principle and construct a symmetric potential in which the period function has the same value as in the original asymmetric potential. We present an example (satisfying $\mathbf{A} \cdot \nabla \times \mathbf{A} \neq 0$) which can be written as in the form of Nambu-Hamiltonian and bi-Hamiltonian formulations. We present another example (satisfying $\mathbf{A} \cdot \nabla \times \mathbf{A} = 0$) which we cannot able to write it in the form of a Nambu-Hamiltonian or bi-Hamiltonian system. On the hand, this second example can be manifested in terms of Hamiltonian one-form and yields generalized or vector Hamiltonian equations $\dot{x}_i = - ε_{ijk}{\partial η_j}/{\partial x_k}$.

Utilizing this map, we propose a direct construction of parametric curve evolution from any NLS solution. It includes ordered (or nested) integrals of products of local matrices akin to the causal evolution of quantum theory, necessitating the implementation of the Magnus expansion. Such a straightforward mapping may be a simple tool to study the evolution of various systems of physical concern, although the actual computation can be a challenge for most NLS solutions.

We obtain the corresponding new first integrals of these derived equations, this method yields a natural generalization of the construction of Ermakov-Lewis invariant for a time dependent oscillator to (coupled) Liénard and Liénard type equations. We also study the linearization problem for the coupled Liénard equation using nonlocal transformations and derive coupled dissipative Ermakov-Milne-Pinney equation. As an offshoot of this nonlocal transformation method when the standard Liénard equation, x + f(x)x_ + g(x) = 0, is mapped to that of the linear harmonic oscillator equation we obtain a relation between the functions f(x) and g(x) which is exactly similar to the condition derived in the context of isochronicity of the Liénard equation.

We begin by considering the standard Lienard equation for which a Lagrangian is constructed by using the method of Jacobi Last Multiplier. The velocity dependance of the Lagrangian is such that the momentum may exhibit multivaluedness thereby leading to the so called branched Hamiltonian. Next with a quadratic velocity dependance in the Lienard equation one can construct a Hamiltonian description involving a position dependent mass. We compute the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian of this system and show that the canonical Hamiltonian is single valued . However, we find that up to a constant shift, the square of this Hamiltonian describes systems giving rise to spontaneous time translation symmetry breaking provided the potential function is negative

The non-local equations are first obtained by symmetry reductions of the variables in the corresponding local systems. The bi-Hamiltonian structures of these equations are explicitly derived. The bi-Hamiltonian structures are used to obtain the non-holonomic deformation following the Kupershmidt ansatz. Further, the same deformation is studied using the Lax pair approach and several properties of the deformation discussed. The process is carried out for coupled non-local Nonlinear Schrodinger and Derivative Nonlinear Schrodinger (Kaup Newell) equations. In case of the former, an exact equivalence between the deformations obtained through the bi-Hamiltonian and Lax pair formalisms is indicated

Distinct striation patterns are observed in the spectrograms of speech and music. This motivated us to propose three novel time-frequency features for speech-music classification. These features are extracted in two stages. First, a preset number of prominent spectral peak locations are identified from the spectra of each frame. These important peak locations obtained from each frame are used to form Spectral peak sequences (SPS) for an audio interval. In second stage, these SPS are treated as time series data of frequency locations. The proposed features are extracted as periodicity, average frequency and statistical attributes of these spectral peak sequences. Speech-music categorization is performed by learning binary classifiers on these features. We have experimented with Gaussian mixture models, support vector machine and random forest classifiers. Our proposal is validated on four datasets and benchmarked against three baseline approaches. Experimental results establish the validity of our proposal.

Near surface silver nanoparticles embedded in silicon oxide were obtained by 40 keV silver negative ion implantation without the requirement of an annealing step. Ion beam induced local heating within the film leads to an exo-diffusion of the silver ions towards the film surface resulting in the protrusion of larger nanoparticles. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM) reveals the presence of poly-disperse nanoparticles (NPs), ranging between 2 nm-20 nm, at different depths of the SiO2 film. The normal incidence reflectance spectrum shows a double kink feature in the vicinity of 400nm, indicating a strong localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) from the embedded NPs. However, due to overlap of the bilayer interference and LSPR, the related features are difficult to separate. The ambiguity in associating the correct kink with the LSPR related absorption is cleared with the use of transfer matrix simulations in combination with an effective medium approximation. The simulations are further verified with angle dependent reflectance measurements. Additionally, transfer matrix simulation is also used to calculate the electric field intensity profile through the depth of the film, wherein an enhanced electric field intensity is predicted at the surface of the implanted films.

QID is carried out generically for the NLS hierarchy while for the DNLS hierarchy, it is first done on the Kaup-Newell system followed by other members of the family. No QI anomaly is observed at the level of EOMs which suggests that at that level the QID may be identified as some integrable deformation. NHD is applied to the NLS hierarchy generally as well as with the specific focus on the NLS equation itself and the coupled KdV type NLS equation. For the DNLS hierarchy, the Kaup-Newell(KN) and Chen-Lee-Liu (CLL) equations are deformed non-holonomically and subsequently, different aspects of the results are discussed.

Deep Reinforcement Learning has enabled the learning of policies for complex tasks in partially observable environments, without explicitly learning the underlying model of the tasks. While such model-free methods achieve considerable performance, they often ignore the structure of task. We present a natural representation of to Reinforcement Learning (RL) problems using Recurrent Convolutional Neural Networks (RCNNs), to better exploit this inherent structure. We define 3 such RCNNs, whose forward passes execute an efficient Value Iteration, propagate beliefs of state in partially observable environments, and choose optimal actions respectively. Backpropagating gradients through these RCNNs allows the system to explicitly learn the Transition Model and Reward Function associated with the underlying MDP, serving as an elegant alternative to classical model-based RL. We evaluate the proposed algorithms in simulation, considering a robot planning problem. We demonstrate the capability of our framework to reduce the cost of replanning, learn accurate MDP models, and finally re-plan with learnt models to achieve near-optimal policies.

This generalized semi-discrete equation can be considered as a model for the description of non-linear dislocation waves in crystal lattice and the corresponding continuous system can be called mixed generalized potential KdV and sine-Gordon equation. We obtain the Bäcklund transformation of this equation in Riccati form in inverse method. We further study the quasi-integrable deformation of this model.

The quasi-integrable KdV equation has been obtained from the corresponding deformation of the Hamiltonian for the usual KdV system. Following suitable gauge-fixing, it has been found that the quasi-conservation condition is satisfied and an infinite number of anomalous conservation laws are obtained, with some containing possible conserved charges. Judicious choice of deformation of the Hamiltonian clearly leads to a conserved charge, manifesting quasi-integrability, but also creates a hierarchy of higher-derivative equations with at least one conserved charge. A particular quasi-deformation parameterization of the Hamiltonian is found to complement the same of the NLS system, following an approximate equivalence of the two systems obtained earlier, in the weak coupling limit. Single-soliton solutions for all these cases are obtained, with manifest scaling due to the quasi-integrable deformation. Finally, quasi-conservation formulation for the complex coupled generalized KdV system is obtained.
