The presence of quantum vortices determines the electromagnetic response of superconducting materials and devices. Controlling the vortex motion, their pinning on intrinsic and artificial defects is therefore essential for superconducting electronics. Here we take advantage of the attractive force between a magnetic cantilever of the Magnetic Force Microscope and a single quantum vortex to spatially map the pinning force inside 50-240 nm thick magnetron-sputtered Nb-films, commonly used in advanced superconducting electronics. The revealed pinning nano-network is related to the thickness-dependent granular structure of the films as well as to the characteristic microscopic scales of superconductivity. Our approach is general, and can be directly applied to other type II granular superconducting materials and nanodevices.

Here we report the realization of the superconducting memory whose state is encoded by the number of present Josephson vortices. By integrating the junction into a coplanar resonator and by applying a microwave excitation well below the critical current, we were able to control the state of the memory in an energy-efficent and non-destructive manner. The performance of the device is evaluated, and the routes for creating scalable cryogenic memories directly compatible with superconducting microwave technologies are discussed.

In this work, we study magnetization dynamics in superconductor-ferromagnet (S-F) thin-film multilayer. Theoretical considerations supported by the broad-band ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy reveal development of acoustic and optic resonance modes in S-F multilayers at significantly higher frequencies in comparison to the Kittel mode of individual F-layers. These modes are formed due to antiferromagnetic-like interaction between F-layers via shared circulating superconducting currents in S-layers. The gap between resonance modes is determined by the thickness and superconducting penetration depth in S-layers. Overall, rich spectrum of S-F multilayers and its tunability opens wide prospects for application of these multialyers in magnonics as well as in various superconducting hybrid systems.

Results of the broad-band ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy are reported for a large set of samples with varied thickness of both superconducting and ferromagnetic layers in a wide frequency, field, and temperature ranges. Experimentally the one-dimensional anisotropic action of superconducting torque on magnetization dynamics is established; its dependence on thickness of layers is revealed. It is demonstrated that experimental findings support the recently-proposed mechanism of the superconducting torque formation via the interplay between the superconducting kinetic inductance and magnetization precession at superconductor-ferromagnet interfaces.

Made of a thin non-superconducting metal (N) sandwiched by two superconductors (S), SNS Josephson junctions enable novel quantum functionalities by mixing up the intrinsic electronic properties of N with the superconducting correlations induced from S by proximity. Electronic properties of these devices are governed by Andreev quasiparticles [1] which are absent in conventional SIS junctions whose insulating barrier (I) between the two S electrodes owns no electronic states. Here we focus on the Josephson vortex (JV) motion inside Nb-Cu-Nb proximity junctions subject to electric currents and magnetic fields. The results of local (Magnetic Force Microscopy) and global (transport) experiments provided simultaneously are compared with our numerical model, revealing the existence of several distinct dynamic regimes of the JV motion. One of them, identified as a fast hysteretic entry/escape below the critical value of Josephson current, is analyzed and suggested for low-dissipative logic and memory elements.

Epitaxial Pd-Fe thin film with linear distribution of Fe content across the thickness is used as the model material. Anomalous perpendicular standing spin waves are observed and quantified using the collective dynamic equation. Numerical analysis yields the exchange stiffness constant for diluted Pd-Fe alloy $D=2A/μ_0M_s=15$~T$\cdot$nm$^2$ and the ratio of the effective magnetization to the saturation magnetization $M_{eff}/M_s=1.16$. It is demonstrated that, overall, engineering of thin films with non-uniform composition across the thickness can be used for high-frequency or low-field magnonic operations using exchange spin waves.

Scalability down to atomic dimensions, operations in the GHz-to-THz frequency range, utilization of nonlinear and nonreciprocal phenomena, and compatibility with CMOS are just a few of many advantages offered by magnons. Although magnonics is still primarily positioned in the academic domain, the scientific and technological challenges of the field are being extensively investigated, and many proof-of-concept prototypes have already been realized in laboratories. This roadmap is a product of the collective work of many authors that covers versatile spin-wave computing approaches, conceptual building blocks, and underlying physical phenomena. In particular, the roadmap discusses the computation operations with Boolean digital data, unconventional approaches like neuromorphic computing, and the progress towards magnon-based quantum computing. The article is organized as a collection of sub-sections grouped into seven large thematic sections. Each sub-section is prepared by one or a group of authors and concludes with a brief description of the current challenges and the outlook of the further development of the research directions.

Measurements with magnetic field applied along ab crystal planes reveal meta-magnetic transition in both compounds. Numerical studies employing the Jz1-Jz2 Heisenberg model suggest that the ground state of the magnetic order in Eu subsystem for both compounds is the helical spin order with the helical angle about 2pi/5, while the meta-magnetic transition is the helix-to-fan first order phase transition.

High characteristics of coupling are achieved owing to a radical suppression of the photon phase velocity in electromagnetic resonator. With achieved coupling the spectrum reveals inapplicability of the Dicke model, and evidences contribution of the diamagnetic A^2 interaction term in the Hamiltonian of the system, which satisfies the Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn sum rule. The contribution of the A^2 term denotes validity of the Hopfield quantum model and manifests observation of a different hybrid polariton quasi-particle, namely, the plasmon-magnon polariton.

The critical step for future quantum industry demands realization of efficient information exchange between different-platform hybrid systems, including photonic and magnonic systems, that can harvest advantages of distinct platforms. The major restraining factor for the progress in certain hybrid systems is the fundamentally weak coupling parameter between the elemental particles. This restriction impedes the entire field of hybrid magnonics by making realization of scalable on-chip hybrid magnonic systems unattainable. In this work, we propose a general flexible approach for realization of on-chip hybrid magnonic systems with unprecedentedly strong coupling parameters. The approach is based on multilayered micro-structures containing superconducting, insulating and ferromagnetic layers with modified both photon phase velocities and magnon eigen-frequencies. Phenomenologically, the enhanced coupling strength is provided by the radically reduced photon mode volume. The microscopic mechanism of the phonon-to-magnon coupling in studied systems evidences formation of the long-range superconducting coherence via thick strong ferromagnetic layers. This coherence is manifested by coherent superconducting screening of microwave fields by the superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor three-layers in presence of magnetization precession. This discovery offers new opportunities in microwave superconducting spintronics for quantum technologies.

Microstructuring of the FSF trilayers does not destroy the effect: the most pronounced curves were obtained on the smallest bridges of 6-8 um wide and 10-15 um long. Below the superconducting transition we are able to control the critical current of microbridges by switching between P and AP orientations of magnetizations of PdFe layers. The operation of FSF-bridge as a magnetic switch is demonstrated in several regimes providing significant voltage discrimination between digital states or remarkably low bit error rate.

In this work, magnetization dynamics is studied in superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor three-layered films in a wide frequency, field, and temperature ranges using the broad-band ferromagnetic resonance measurement technique. It is shown that in presence of both superconducting layers and of superconducting proximity at both superconductor/ferromagnet interfaces a massive shift of the ferromagnetic resonance to higher frequencies emerges. The phenomenon is robust and essentially long-range: it has been observed for a set of samples with the thickness of ferromagnetic layer in the range from tens up to hundreds of nanometers. The resonance frequency shift is characterized by proximity-induced magnetic anisotropies: by the positive in-plane uniaxial anisotropy and by the drop of magnetization. The shift and the corresponding uniaxial anisotropy grow with the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer. For instance, the anisotropy reaches 0.27~T in experiment for a sample with 350~nm thick ferromagnetic layer, and about 0.4~T in predictions, which makes it a ferromagnetic film structure with the highest anisotropy and the highest natural resonance frequency ever reported. Various scenarios for the superconductivity-induced magnetic anisotropy are discussed. As a result, the origin of the phenomenon remains unclear. Application of the proximity-induced anisotropies in superconducting magnonics is proposed as a way for manipulations with a spin-wave spectrum.

The dynamics of transient current distributions in superconducting YBCO thin films were investigated during and immediately following an external field ramp, using high-speed (real-time) Magneto-Optical Imaging and calculation of dynamic current profiles. A number of qualitatively unique and previously unobserved features are seen in this novel analysis of the evolution of supercurrent during penetration. As magnetic field ramps up from zero, the dynamic current profile is characterized by strong peaks, the magnitude of which exceed the conventional critical current density (as determined from static current profiles). These peaks develop close to the sample edges, initially resembling screening currents but quickly growing in intensity as the external field increases. A discontinuity in field and current behaviour is newly observed, indicating a novel transition from increasing peak current toward relaxation behaviour. After this transition, the current peaks move toward the centre of the sample while reducing in intensity as magnetic vortices penetrate inward. This motion slows exponentially with time, with the current distribution in the long-time limit reducing to the expected Kim-model profile.

Transport, magnetic and optical investigations on EuRbFe$_4$As$_4$ single crystals evidence that the ferromagnetic ordering of the Eu$^{2+}$ magnetic moments at $T_N=15$ K, below the superconducting transition ($T_c=36$ K), affects superconductivity in a weak but intriguing way. Upon cooling below $T_N$, the zero resistance state is preserved and the superconductivity is affected by the in-plane ferromagnetism mainly at domain boundaries; a perfect diamagnetism is recovered at low temperatures. The infrared conductivity is strongly suppressed in the far-infrared region below $T_c$, associated with the opening of a complete superconducting gap at $2Δ= 10$ meV. A gap smaller than the weak coupling limit suggests the strong orbital effects or, within a multiband superconductivity scenario, the existence of a larger yet unrevealed gap.
