The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $τ$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

The factorizable amplitudes are calculated by the modified bag model, while the nonfactorizable ones are extracted from the experimental data with the $SU(3)_F$ flavor symmetry. We are able to explain all current experimental measurements and provide predictions on the decay branching ratios in $B\to {\bf B}_n \overline{\bf B}_n^\prime$. Particularly, we find that ${\cal B}(B_s^0 \to Ξ^0 \overlineΞ^0) = (19.3\pm 2.7 )\times 10^{-7}$ and ${\cal B}(B_s^0 \to Ξ^- \overlineΞ^-) = (19.4\pm 2.7 )\times 10^{-7}$, which are sizable and able to be observed in the ongoing experiments at LHCb and BELLE-II. Furthermore, the decay branching ratios of $B_s^0 \to (p\overline{p}, n\overline{n})$ and $B^0 \to (Ξ^0 \overlineΞ^0 ,Σ^+\overlineΣ^+)$ are expected to be $O(10^{-10})$, which are suppressed due to the angular momentum conservation and chiral symmetry.

Abstract:
We explore the viable $f(R)$ gravity models in FLRW backgrounds with a free spatial curvature parameter $Ω_{K}$. In particular, we study the evolutions of the dark energy density and equation of state for exponential $f(R)$ gravity in open, flat and closed universe, and compare with those for $Λ$CDM. From the current observational data, we find that $λ^{-1}=0.42927^{+0.39921}_{-0.32927}$ at 68$\%$ C.L and $Ω_K=-0.00050^{+0.00420}_{-0.00414}$ at 95$\%$ C.L. in the exponential $f(R)$ model. By using Akaike information criterion (AIC), Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and Deviance Information Criterion (DIC), we conclude that there is no strong preference between the exponential $f(R)$ gravity and $Λ$CDM models in the non-flat universe.

In particular, we find that our new result of ${\cal B}( B^- \to p \bar{p} \ell^- \barν_{\ell})=(5.21\pm0.34)\times 10^{-6}$, which is about one order of magnitude lower than the previous theoretical prediction of $(10.4\pm2.9)\times 10^{-5}$, agrees well with both experimental measurements of $(5.8^{+2.6}_{-2.3})\times 10^{-6}$ and $(5.3\pm0.4)\times 10^{-6}$ by the Belle and LHCb Collaborations, respectively. We also evaluate the branching ratios and angular asymmetries in other channels of $B^- \to {\bf B}\bar{\bf B}\ell^- \barν_{\ell}$, which can be tested by the ongoing experiments at LHCb and BelleII.

On the other hand, in ${\bf B}_b \to {\bf B}_n V(γ)$ with $V(γ)$ a vector meson~(photon), the decays are predominated by a single helicity amplitude, and the T violating effects by the correlations among spins are suppressed. We also explore the T violating observables for the $Ξ_b$ decays based on the angular distributions.

We study the spin correlations to probe time-reversal~(T) asymmetries in the decays of $Λ_b \to ΛV ~(V=φ, ρ^0, ω, K^{*0})$. The eigenstates of the T-odd operators are obtained along with definite angular momenta. We obtain the T-odd spin correlations from the complex phases among the helicity amplitudes. We give the angular distributions of $Λ_b \to Λ(\to p π^-)V(\to PP')$ and show the corresponding spin correlations, where $P^{(\prime)}$ are the pseudoscalar mesons. Due to the helicity conservation of the $s$ quark in $Λ$, we deduce that the polarization asymmetries of $Λ$ are close to $-1$. Since the decay of $Λ_b \to Λφ$ in the standard model~(SM) is dictated by the single weak phase from the product of CKM elements, $V_{tb}V_{ts}^*$, the true T and CP asymmetries are suppressed, providing a clean background to test the SM and search for new physics. In the factorization approach, as the helicity amplitudes in the SM share the same complex phase, T-violating effects are absent. Nonetheless, the experimental branching ratio of $Br(Λ_b \to Λφ) = (5.18\pm 1.29 )\times 10^{-6}$ suggests that the nonfactorizable effects or some new physics play an important role. By parametrizing the nonfactorizable contributions with the effective color number, we calculate the branching ratios and direct CP asymmetries. We also explore the possible T-violating effects from new physics.

We explore the decays of $B\to V_1V_2$ ($V_{1,2}= (ρ, ω,K^*, φ)$ and $B= (B^0, B^+,B_s)$) with transverse polarizations. We explicitly evaluate the eigenstates of T-odd scalar operators involving spins for the first time, which offer physical insight among the T violating observables. Based on the helicity suppression of tree operators for transverse polarizations in the standard model (SM), we deduce that $Δφ_p= Δφ_\parallel - Δφ_\perp=0$ with $Δφ_{\perp,\parallel}$ the weak phases of the transverse amplitudes. In contrast, the experiments show that $Δφ_p (B^0 \to K^{*0} ω)= -0.84\pm 0.54$, which could be a signal of new physics. There is also a discrepancy between our result in the SM and the experimental data for the transverse polarized branching ratio in $B^0 \to K^{*0} ω$. In addition, by counting the helicity flips, we argue that $\sin(φ_\parallel - φ_\perp ) \approx 0$, which meets well with most of the experiments except for the ones with $B^0\to K^{*0}ω$, where $φ_{\parallel,\perp}$ are the strong phases in the transverse amplitudes.

The scalar-tensor theory can be formulated in both Jordan and Einstein frames, which are conformally related together with a redefinition of the scalar field. As the solution to the equation of the scalar field in the Jordan frame does not have the one-to-one correspondence with that in the Einstein frame, we give a criterion along with some specific models to check if the scalar field in the Einstein frame is viable or not by confirming whether this field is reversible back to the Jordan frame. We further show that the criterion in the first parameterized post-Newtonian approximation can be determined by the parameters of the osculating approximation of the coupling function in the Einstein frame and can be treated as a viable constraint on any numerical study in the scalar-tensor scenario. We also demonstrate that the Brans-Dicke theory with an infinite constant parameter $ω_{\text{BD}}$ is a counterexample of the equivalence between two conformal frames due to the violation of the viable constraint.

We investigate some consequences if neutrinoless double beta decays of nuclei are dominated by short range interactions. To illustrate our results, we assume that such decays proceed mainly through short range interactions involving two-W-bosons exchanges and confine ourselves to only include new scalars without new gauge interactions for SM fermions. For the neutrino mass problem we propose to solve it by adopting that the active light neutrinos have predominantly Dirac masses and the small Majorana masses induced by the new scalars render them pseudo(quasi)-Dirac particles. This particular aspect of neutrinos may be detectable in the next generation of neutrino oscillation experiments and/or neutrino telescopes. If so this opens a new connection between neutrinoless double beta decays and neutrino physics. We also noted the new physics signals such as high charged scalar states that can be explored in hadron colliders. In particular, we find that a high energy e^- e^- collider will be very useful in testing the origin of lepton number violation which complements neutrinoless double decays studies.

Moreover, we obtain that $Δ{\cal B}\equiv {\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to Σ^0 π^+) - {\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to Σ^+π^0)=(3.8\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}$ and $Δα\equivα(Λ_c^+\to Σ^0 π^+) -α(Λ_c^+\to Σ^+π^0)=(-1.6\pm 0.7)\times10^{-2}$, which should vanish without the mixing.

We study a special running vacuum model (RVM) with $Λ= 3 αH^2+3βH_0^4 H^{-2}+Λ_0$, where $α$, $β$ and $Λ_0$ are the model parameters and $H$ is the Hubble one. This RVM has non-analytic background solutions for the energy densities of matter and radiation, which can only be evaluated numerically. From the analysis of the CMB power spectrum and baryon acoustic oscillation along with the prior of $α>0$ to avoid having a negative dark energy density, we find that $α<2.83\times 10^{-4}$ and $β=(-0.2^{+3.9}_{-4.5})\times 10^{-4}$ (95$\%$ C.L.). We show that the RVM fits the cosmological data comparably to the $Λ$CDM. In addition, we relate the fluctuation amplitude $σ_8$ to the neutrino mass sum $Σm_ν$.

We give a systematic study of ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$ decays, where ${\bf B}_c$ and $ {\bf B}_n$ correspond to the anti-triplet charmed and octet baryons, respectively, while $V$ stand for the vector mesons. We calculate the color-symmetric contributions to the decays from the effective Hamiltonian with the factorization approach and extract the anti-symmetric ones based on the experimental measurements and $SU(3)_F$ flavor symmetry. We find that most of the existing experimental data for ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$ are consistent with our fitting results. We present all the branching ratios of the Cabbibo allowed, singly Cabbibo suppressed and doubly Cabbibo suppressed decays of ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$. The decay parameters for the daughter baryons and mesons in ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$ are also evaluated. In particular, we point out that the Cabbibo allowed decays of $Λ_c^+ \to Λ^0 ρ^+$ and $ Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- ρ^+$ as well as the singly Cabbibo suppressed ones of $Λ_c^+ \to Λ^0 K^{*+}$, $Ξ_c^+ \to Σ^+ φ$ and $Ξ_c^0\to Ξ^- K^{*+}$ have large branching ratios and decay parameters with small uncertainties, which can be tested by the experimental searches at the charm facilities.

By assuming the s-wave meson-pairs to be the dominant constituents in final state configurations, we can write the spin-dependent decay amplitude into parity-conserving and parity-violating parts, parametrized by 6 real parameters under $SU(3)_f$, respectively. Fitting these parameters by 16 experimental data points with the minimum $χ^2$ method, we obtain that $χ^2/d.o.f=2.4$. With the fitted parameters, we evaluate the up-down asymmetries along with the decay branching ratios of ${\bf B_c}\to{\bf B_n}MM' $. Some of these up-down asymmetries are accessible to the experiments at BESIII, BELLE-II and LHCb.

We find that our fitting results of ${\cal B}({\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_DM) $ are consistent with the current experimental data in both schemes, while the up-down asymmetries in all decays are found to be sizable, consistent with the current experimental data, but different from zero predicted in the literature. In the $SU(3)_F$ approach, it is the first time that the decay rates and up-down asymmetries are fully and systematically studied without neglecting the ${\cal O}(\overline{15})$ contributions of the color anti-symmetric parts in the effective Hamiltonian. Our results of the up-down asymmetries based on $SU(3)_F$ are quite different from the previous theoretical values in the literature. In particular, we find that the up-down symmetry of $ α(Λ_c^+\to Ξ^0 K^+)_{SU(3)} = 0.94^{+0.06}_{-0.11}$, which is consistent with the recent experimental data of $0.77\pm0.78$ by the BESIII Collaboration, but predicted to be zero in the literature. By considering only the S-wave $MM'$-pair contributions without resonance effects, the decays of ${\bf B_c}\to {\bf B_n}MM'$ can be decomposed into irreducible forms with 11 parameters under $SU(3)_f$, which are fitted by the 14 existing data, resulting in a reasonable value of $χ^2/d.o.f=2.8$ for the fit. Consequently, we find that the triangle sum rule of ${\cal A}(Λ_c^+\to n\bar K^0 π^+)-{\cal A}(Λ_c^+\to pK^- π^+)-\sqrt 2 {\cal A}(Λ_c^+\to p\bar K^0 π^0)=0$ given by the isospin symmetry holds under $SU(3)_f$, where ${\cal A}$ stands for the decay amplitude. In addition, we predict that ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to n π^{+} \bar{K}^{0})=(0.9\pm 0.8)\times 10^{-2}$, which is $3-4$ times smaller than the BESIII observation, indicating the existence of the resonant states. Differences in the behaviour of matter and antimatter are associated with the non-invariance of fundamental interactions under the combined charge-conjugation and parity transformations, known as $C\!P$ violation. We discuss purely baryonic decay processes, i.e. decay processes involving only spin-carrying particles. They are yet unexplored elementary processes. Their study opens a new chapter of flavour physics in the route towards a better understanding of $C\!P$ violation. It may help us to understand the observed matter and antimatter asymmetry of the Universe.

For the corresponding baryonic $\bar B_s^0$ decays, we find that ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to Λ\bar Λη,Λ\bar Λη')=(1.2\pm 0.3,2.6\pm 0.8)\times 10^{-6}$ or $(2.1\pm 0.6,1.5\pm 0.4)\times 10^{-6}$ with the errors similar to those above. The decays in question are accessible to the experiments at BELLE and LHCb.

With ${\bf B}_n^{(\prime)}$ denoted as the baryon octet (decuplet), we find that the ${\bf B}_{c}\to {\bf B}'_n\ell^+ν_\ell$ decays are forbidden, while the $Ω_c^0\to Ω^-\ell^+ν_\ell$, $Ω_{cc}^+\toΩ_c^0\ell^+ν_\ell$, and $Ω_{ccc}^{++}\to Ω_{cc}^+\ell^+ν_\ell$ decays are the only existing Cabibbo-allowed modes for ${\bf B}'_{c}\to {\bf B}'_n\ell^+ν_\ell$, ${\bf B}_{cc}\to {\bf B}'_c\ell^+ν_\ell$, and ${\bf B}_{ccc}\to {\bf B}_{cc}^{(\prime)}\ell^+ν_\ell$, respectively. We predict the rarely studied ${\bf B}_{c}\to {\bf B}_n^{(\prime)}M$ decays, such as ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0\toΛ^0\bar K^0,\,Ξ_c^+\toΞ^0π^+)=(8.3\pm 0.9,8.0\pm 4.1)\times 10^{-3}$ and ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to Δ^{++}π^-,\,Ξ_c^0\toΩ^- K^+)=(5.5\pm 1.3,4.8\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-3}$. In our discussion, while the main contribution to $Λ_b\to K^-J/ψp$ is from the non-perturbative process via the doubly charmful $b\to c\bar cs$ transition, we propose that the $Λ_b\to {\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to J/ψp$ transitions are partly contribute to the $Λ_b\to K^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to)J/ψp$ decays, in which the required $c\bar c$ pair is formed by the sea quarks, intrinsic charm, or both. We predict that ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to J/ψp \ell^-\bar ν_\ell)=(2.04^{+4.82}_{-1.57},1.75^{+4.14}_{-1.35})\times 10^{-6}$ for $\ell=(e,μ)$, which are about two orders of magnitude smaller than the observed decay of $Λ_b\to pμ\bar ν_μ$. We also explore the angular correlations for the $J/ψp$ and $\ell^-\bar ν_\ell$ pairs. Our results of the decay branching ratios and angular asymmetries in $Λ_b\to J/ψp \ell^-\bar ν_\ell$, accessible to the ongoing experiments at the LHCb, can be used to improve the understanding of the hidden charm pentaquark states.

Explicitly, we find $|V_{cb}|=(44.0\pm 3.5)\times 10^{-3}$, which agrees with the value of $(42.11\pm 0.74)\times 10^{-3}$ from the inclusive $B\to X_c\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decays. Furthermore, based on the most recent ratio of $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$ from the exclusive $Λ_b$ decays, we obtain $|V_{ub}|=(4.2\pm 0.4)\times 10^{-3}$, which is close to the value of $(4.49\pm 0.24)\times 10^{-3}$ from the inclusive $B\to X_u\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decays. We conclude that our determinations of $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ from the exclusive $Λ_b$ decays favor the inclusive extractions in the $B$ decays.

We study the Starobinsky or $R^2$ model of $f(R)=R+αR^2$ for neutron stars with the structure equations represented by the coupled differential equations and the \emph{polytropic} type of the matter equation of state. The junction conditions of $f(R)$ gravity are used as the boundary conditions to match the Schwarschild solution at the surface of the star. Based on these the conditions, we demonstrate that the coupled differential equations can be solved \emph{directly}. In particular, from the dimensionless equation of state $\barρ = \bar{k}\, \bar{p}^{\,γ}$ with $\bar{k}\sim5.0$ and $γ\sim0.75$ and the constraint of $α\lesssim {1.47722}\times 10^{7}\, \text{m}^2$, we obtain the \emph{minimal} mass of the NS to be around 1.44 $M_{\odot}$. In addition, if $\bar{k}$ is larger than 5.0, the mass and radius of the NS would be smaller.

In addition, we derive the relations \mbox{${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to \bar p ΛK^+)\simeq (f_K/f_π)^2(τ_{B^0_s}/τ_{B^0}) {\cal B}(\bar B^0\to \bar p Λπ^+)$} and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to p\bar Λπ^-)/{\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to p\bar ΛK^-)\simeq {\cal B}(B^-\to p\bar p π^-)/{\cal B}(B^-\to p\bar p K^-)$ to be confronted to future experimental measurements. After the KK dimensional reduction, the Lagrangian in the Einstein-frame can be realized by taking $2a+b+c=0$ with the ghost-free condition $c\leq0$ for the one-parameter family of teleparallelism. We demonstrate that the pure conformal invariant gravity models can be constructed by the requirements of $2a+b=0$ and $c=0$. In particular, the torsion vector can be identified as the conformal gauge field, while the conformal gauge theory can be obtained by $2a+b+4c=0$ or $2a+b=0$, which is described on the Weyl-Cartan geometry $Y_4$ with the ghost-free conditions $2a+b+c>0$ and $c\neq0$. We also consider the weak field approximation and discuss the non-minimal coupled term of the scalar current and torsion vector. For the conformal invariant models with $2a+b=0$, we find that only the anti-symmetric tensor field is allowed rather than the symmetric one.

We investigate the matter density perturbation $δ_m$ and power spectrum $P(k)$ in the running vacuum model (RVM) with the cosmological constant being a function of the Hubble parameter, given by $Λ= Λ_0 + 6 σH H_0+ 3νH^2$, in which the linear and quadratic terms of $H$ would originate from the QCD vacuum condensation and cosmological renormalization group, respectively. Taking the dark energy perturbation into consideration, we derive the evolution equation for $δ_m$ and find a specific scale $d_{cr}=2 π/k_{cr}$, which divides the evolution of the universe into the sub and super-interaction regimes, corresponding to $k \ll k_{cr}$ and $k \gg k_{cr}$, respectively. For the former, the evolution of $δ_m$ has the same behavior as that in the $Λ$CDM model, while for the latter, the growth of $δ_m$ is frozen (greatly enhanced) when $ν+ σ>(<)0$ due to the couplings between radiation, matter and dark energy. It is clear that the observational data rule out the cases with $ν<0$ and $ν+ σ<0$, while the allowed window for the model parameters is extremely narrow with $ν, |σ| \lesssim \mathcal{O}(10^{-7})$.

With the decay constant $f_{X_c^0}=(234\pm 52)$~MeV determined from the data, we predict that ${\cal B}(B^-\to X_c^0π^-)=(11.5\pm 5.7)\times 10^{-6}$,…

With the form factors in QCD models, we calculate that ${\cal B}(B_c^-\to X_c^0π^-,X_c^0 K^-)=(6.0\pm 2.6)\times 10^{-5}$ and $(4.7\pm 2.0)\times 10^{-6}$, and ${\cal B}(B_c^-\to J/ψμ^-\bar ν_μ, X_c^0 μ^-\bar ν_μ)=(2.3\pm0.6)\times 10^{-2}$ and $(1.35\pm 0.18)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, and extract the ratio of the fragmentation fractions to be $f_c/f_u=(6.4\pm 1.9)\times 10^{-3}$.

Abstract:
We investigate the running cosmological constant model with dark energy linearly proportional to the Hubble parameter, $Λ= σH + Λ_0$, in which the $Λ$CDM limit is recovered by taking $σ=0$. We derive the linear perturbation equations of gravity under the Friedmann-Lemaïtre-Robertson-Walker cosmology, and show the power spectra of the CMB temperature and matter density distribution. By using the Markov chain Monte Carlo method, we fit the model to the current observational data and find that $σH_0/ Λ_0 \lesssim 2.63 \times 10^{-2}$ and $6.74 \times 10^{-2}$ for $Λ(t)$ coupled to matter and radiation-matter, respectively, along with constraints on other cosmological parameters.

We study the dark matter (DM) direct detection for the models with the effects of the isospin-violating couplings, exothermic scatterings, and/or the lightness of the mediator, proposed to relax the tension between the CDMS-Si signals and null experiments. In the light of the new updates of the LUX and CDMSlite data, we find that many of the previous proposals are now ruled out, including the Ge-phobic exothermic DM model and the Xe-phobic DM one with a light mediator. We also examine the exothermic DM models with a light mediator but without the isospin violation, and we are unable to identify any available parameter space that could simultaneously satisfy all the experiments. The only models that can partially relax the inconsistencies are the Xe-phobic exothermic DM models with or without a light mediator. But even in this case, a large portion of the CDMS-Si regions of interest has been constrained by the LUX and SuperCDMS data.
