The search for new materials for energy-efficient electronic devices has gained unprecedented importance. Among the various classes of magnetic materials driving this search are antiferromagnets, magnetoelectrics, and systems with topological spin excitations. Cu$_3$TeO$_6$ is a material that belongs to all three of these classes. Combining static electric polarization and magnetic torque measurements with phenomenological simulations we demonstrate that magnetic-field-induced spin reorientation needs to be taken into account to understand the linear magnetoelectric (ME) effect in Cu$_3$TeO$_6$. Our calculations reveal that the magnetic field pushes the system from the nonpolar ground state to the polar magnetic structures. However, nonpolar structures only weakly differing from the obtained polar ones exist due to the weak effect that the field-induced breaking of some symmetries has on the calculated structures. Among those symmetries is the $PT$ ($\overline{1}'$) symmetry, preserved for Dirac points found in Cu$_3$TeO$_6$. Our findings establish Cu$_3$TeO$_6$ as a promising playground to study the interplay of spintronics-related phenomena.

In this work we present frequency-dependent magnetic susceptibility and dc electric transport properties of three different compositions of hexaferrite Ba$_{1-x}$Pb$_{x}$Fe$_{12-y}$Al$_{y}$O$_{19}$. We find a correlation between activation energies of dc electric transport and ac magnetic susceptibility which persists in the whole researched range of aluminium substitution $x=0$ to $3.3$. This result is discussed in the context of charged magnetic domain walls, the pinning of which is determined by charge carriers activated over the transport gap. Our work points toward a general relaxational mechanism in ferrimagnetic semiconductors which directly affects dynamic magnetic properties via electric transport.

Femtosecond time-resolved x-ray diffraction is employed to study the dynamics of the periodic lattice distortion (PLD) associated with the charge-density-wave (CDW) in K0.3MoO3. Using a multi-pulse scheme we show the ability to extend the lifetime of coherent oscillations of the PLD about the undistorted structure through re-excitation of the electronic states. This suggests that it is possible to enter a regime where the symmetry of the potential energy landscape corresponds to the high symmetry phase but the scattering pathways that lead to the damping of coherent dynamics are still controllable by altering the electronic state population. The demonstrated control over the coherence time offers new routes for manipulation of coherent lattice states.

We observe the excitation of collective modes in the THz range driven by the recently discovered Néel spin-orbit torques (NSOT) in the metallic antiferromagnet Mn$_{2}$Au. Temperature dependent THz spectroscopy reveals a strong absorption mode centered near 1 THz, which upon heating from 4 K to 450 K softens and looses intensity. Comparison with the estimated eigenmode frequencies implies that the observed mode is an in-plane antiferromagnetic resonance (AFMR) mode. The AFMR absorption strength exceeds those found in antiferromagnetic insulators, driven by the magnetic field of the THz radiation, by three orders of magnitude. Based on this and the agreement with our theory modelling, we infer that the driving mechanism for the observed mode is the current induced NSOT. This electric manipulation of the Neél order parameter at high frequencies makes Mn$_{2}$Au a prime candidate for AFM ultrafast memory applications.

We have measured the thermoelectric power of charge density wave system $o$-TaS$_{3}$ in a wide temperature range between 10 K and 300 K. All features characteristic for charge density wave systems have been observed; strong increase below charge density transition temperature $T_{P}$, peak at $T_{M}\sim$1/2-1/3 $T_{P}$ and change of sign at lower temperatures. These features can be explained by two contributions; free carriers drag by the optical phonons with frequencies close to the density wave gap value in the peak region and above, and hopping of localized carriers of opposite charge to free carriers at low temperatures. We argue that these are common mechanisms of thermoelectric power generation in all charge density wave systems.

We present the investigation of a monoclinic compound SeCuO3 using x-ray powder diffraction, magnetization, torque and electron-spin-resonance (ESR). Structurally based analysis suggests that SeCuO3 can be considered as a 3D network of tetramers. The values of intra-tetramer exchange interactions are extracted from the temperature dependence of the susceptibility and amount to ~200 K. The inter-tetramer coupling leads to the development of long-range antiferromagnetic order at TN = 8 K. An unusual temperature dependence of the effective g-tensors is observed, accompanied with a rotation of macroscopic magnetic axes. We explain this unique observation as due to site-selective quantum correlations.

We have studied the frequency and voltage dependence of voltage-induced torsional strains in orthorhombic TaS3 [V. Ya. Pokrovskii, et al, Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 206404 (2007)] by measuring the modulation of the resonant frequency of an RF cavity containing the sample. The strain has an onset voltage below the charge-density-wave (CDW) threshold voltages associated with changes in shear compliance and resistance, suggesting that the strain is associated with polarization of the CDW rather than CDW current. Measurements with square-wave voltages show that the strain is very sluggish, not even reaching its dc value at a frequency of 0.1 Hz, but the dynamics appear to be very sample dependent. By applying oscillating torque while biasing the sample with a dc current, we have also looked for strain induced voltage in the sample; none is observed at the low biases where the voltage-induced strains first occur, but an induced voltage is observed at higher biases, probably associated with strain-dependent CDW conductance.

We have studied the charge density wave (CDW) repolarization dynamics in blue bronze by applying square-wave voltages of different frequencies to the sample and measuring the changes in infrared transmittance, proportional to CDW strain. The frequency dependence of the electro-transmittance was fit to a modified harmonic oscillator response and the evolution of the parameters as functions of voltage, position, and temperature are discussed. Resonant frequencies decrease with distance from the current contacts, indicating that the resulting delays are intrinsic to the CDW with the strain effectively flowing from the contact. For a fixed position, the average relaxation time has a voltage dependence given by tau_0~V^-p, with 1<p<2. The temperature dependence of the fitting parameters shows that the dynamics are governed by both the force on the CDW and the CDW current: for a given force and position, both the relaxation and delay times are inversely proportional to the CDW current as temperature is varied. The long relaxation and delay times (~ 1 ms) suggest that the strain response involves the motion of macroscopic objects, presumably CDW phase dislocation lines.
